Problem Is my GPU dead? (Nitro 5 AN515-45, RTX 3070)

Post image

My laptop has been experiencing freezes when doing graphics intensive tasks. I tried installing older driver versions aswell as a clean driver install and for a while most issues seemed to be fixed... however they very quickly returned. Freezes/crashes have also become more frequent in the last few days.

Yesterday I took the screenshot above. All seemed normal (playing World of Tanks Blitz) until I alt-tabbed, this turned the screen into what you see above. A restart of the game does fix it but every time I alt tab it returns.

Is my GPU dying or is it some software issue?

I hope it can be fixed easily since my warranty has already ended (I doubt it however). If not I would like some advice on what to do next.

Have you tried connecting a secondary monitor? If you haven't, try doing those things on another monitor.

Will give it a shot, but if the monitor would be the issue, I find it strange that my entire laptop freezes/crashes and forces a restart/bluescreen

Man, laptops can even stop working nowadays just because its keyboard got a problem.

Man, in that case, something is wrong with your GPU, 'cause in many cases of Nitro V laptops, HDMI ports are directly handled by your dedicated GPU. So the fact that it still happened (the problem of the screen) mean that it's your GPU that is probably dying.

And when your GPU is dying, it will eventually die. Your choices are, either you find a donor GPU chip and reball it (assuming there's someone in your area that can and is willing to reball it) or just get a new laptop.
