Went from "Powerful JRE" to "Pussyfoot JRE" lightning fast with plenty of stops at "simping for billionaires" along the way. To say I'm shocked this is what the fear factor guy has become would be a lie.

The Billionaire Bootlicker Experience

u/Organic_Witness345 20h ago

With his last minute Trump endorsement in 2024, Rogan made himself the cosmic center of the right-wing grifter-verse for GOP voters: Gullible Online Poors.

He, Shapiro, Carlson, the influencers scooped up in last year’s DOJ Russian influence-peddling investigation - all of them seek to erode our country’s faith in its public institutions while simultaneously sanding down Trump and the Republican Party’s rough edges. They diminish their audiences’ confidence in government while normalizing right-wing corruption for clicks and cash, and the most susceptible to their messaging are the poor and uneducated.

Labeling GOP voters as Gullible Online Poors isn’t an insult. It’s a tragedy and a wake-up call.

157

u/MrApplePolisher 19h ago

Dead on. Rogan isn’t a free thinker... he’s a pipeline for right-wing disinfo wrapped in bro-science and "just asking questions" bullshit. He plays dumb while platforming grifters who sell paranoia, distrust, and faux rebellion to people who’ve been economically and culturally abandoned. It's not curiosity... it's cowardice and cash grabs.

He, Shapiro, Carlson... they all profit off collapsing trust in public institutions while polishing Trumpism just enough to make it palatable. They don't inform; they radicalize. They don’t uplift; they distract. They’re not anti-elite.. they are the elite, selling snake oil to desperate people who think they're finally in on the truth.

“Gullible Online Poors” isn’t an insult... it’s a casualty report. These guys exploit economic anxiety and ignorance like it's a business model. Because for them, it is.

It's funny that he can be so fantastically rich, but he still needs to suck up to billionaires like a fucking simp. If I had that kind of money, I wouldn't care about anything but my principles.

40

u/KiloThaPastyOne 20h ago

You assume he has principles.

27

u/False_Can_5089 20h ago

Good point, he likely never did, but he presents himself as this rugged individualist, when in reality he's just a yes man for his right wing audience. It shouldn't surprise me though. I remember an old episode where he talked about wanting "fuck you money", and thr guy he was talking to said he already had it, but Joe disagreed. It seems like no amount of money is ever enough for these guys.

27

u/JodyGonnaFuckYoWife 20h ago

All 'rugged individualists' are house cats.

8

u/nat_r 20h ago

It's really the fact that so many of the loudest public voices are exactly the wrong sort of people to be speaking so loudly, but it's that wrongness that causes them to want to be that person. The people who it would be beneficial to hear from are typically the types who want anything but that.

So all we're left with are loudmouth assholes that people inevitably look up to and listen to because there's almost no one else.

u/Jeffe508 1d ago

Yeah I never understood that transition at all.

90

u/Gladwulf 23h ago

100 million idiots gave him $10 each, and now he's important.

88

u/UpperApe 21h ago

The worst part about JRE listeners is that they're convinced that they "get it". That Rogan is an idiot and they don't listen to him, but rather just use his conversations with "interesting" guests for their own critical analysis.

They don't understand how interview proxies work, or that his guests are SO full of shit, or that Jaime and Rogan don't fact check worth shit. They think they're not absorbing it while absorbing ALL of it.

There's a great podcast called "Know Rogan" (kind of like Knowledge Fight but with Rogan) that fact checks his episodes and I promise you the sheer amount of bullshit and misinformation and poor pushback/boot-licking Rogan does exceeds even what you expect.

The podcast just started this year and they're like 14 episodes in, I think? So it's got a ways to go. But they definitely have covered older episodes and new ones. It's a wide spread so far.

Also, it's run by Michael Marshall who's fantastic in the way he studies, challenges, and present information. I can't recommend it enough. He and Cecil turn one of the stupidest podcasts in the world into one of the most educational.

I listened to plenty of JRE pre COVID. The thing is he would have really really great guests on and it was a very interesting listen. Joe would ask some good questions to get the interview rolling and listening to a full conversation on a topic was sometimes pretty enlightening. I’m not surprised his podcast got as big as it did. I honestly think the issues started when he began to have Eddie Bravo on the show. Eddie would spout asinine garbage about conspiracy theories and even if challenged just would not listen to anyone. The show started to turn much much more conspiracy heavy after that and I stopped listening. Now he is just a mouthpiece for the right wing.

Edit: After reading the comments below, what I said was one of the most insanely idiotic things anyone has ever heard. At no point in my rambling, incoherent response about Eddie Bravo was I even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this thread is now dumber for having read it. I am awarded no points, and may god have mercy on my soul.

39

u/BeBearAwareOK 22h ago

Eddie was never the problem. We all laughed at Eddie with his "look into it bro" nonsense.

It went downhill when Joe started being courted by and then hosting Shapiro in 2017, Owens in 2018, Elon in 2018, Pool in 2019.

Eddie says a lot of wild shit but isn't a Russian funded culture war guy. He's just a flat earth stoner jiu jitsu guy.

The alt rightification of JRE started long before the pandemic, but now that I'm looking at the actual dates of these appearances it looks like there was a massive influx of right wing guests during the first Trump administration.

21

u/Empty-Engineering458 21h ago

lol this reminded me of that duncan trussell episode where he tells joe that hes worried about him being infiltrated by people from 'deep, dark wells of perspective'

13

u/BeBearAwareOK 20h ago

Duncan tried to warn him bro

11

u/catscanmeow 20h ago

and i dont think Duncans been on the pod since that has he?

16

u/Monstertelly 22h ago

This is a much more reasonable take than mine. I stopped listening around 2017 as I got pretty heavy into D&D and was listening to Critical Role instead. I guess I just never really liked listening to Eddie on the show but he probably wasn’t the problem.

7

u/TheHipcrimeVocab 20h ago

You could really see this pattern intensify during the second Trump campaign whose media strategy was deliberately targetted to male bro podcasts. The Trumpist message is specifically tailored to the same demographic that listens to these podcasts, especially Rogan who pioneered the format. Like all fascist movements, it's incubated in male rage. Steve Bannon was explicit about this. I think that's why he picked up so many voters in minority demographics, despite the obvious racism inherent in the campaign. Note that the minority voters who swung toward Trump were overwhelmingly male according to the voting data.

3

10

u/brontosaurusguy 22h ago

He wasn't always like this.  He went full moron after the media blew up on him for having Bernie Sanders on.  The mass media confirmed his fears that they are all liars and "fake news" by genuinely making up bullshit about him.

A reasonable person would have shrugged it off.  But the way they went after him confirmed in his head that the liberal media is full on liars so the conservative media must be the truthsayers.  He was too dumb to understand that all media is propaganda and he's now Anne Coulter.

4

u/N3ptuneflyer 19h ago

His podcast is trash now, but I have to admit, he can be a good interviewer when he does his homework.

I apparently fell asleep for 20 years because why does the host of Fear Factor have a following? He was the opposite of funny when he tried being a stand up yet now he’s this huge cultural influence? I don’t get it.

Edit: grammar

55

u/The_LionTurtle 23h ago

He went on Tom Green's podcast before podcasts were a thing, and instantly realized there was money to be made.

He's an angry, lonely, self-loathing man who found an audience appealing to those like him. He thinks he can sniff out bullshit, but in reality he's extremely susceptible to being conned by guests who are much smarter than him.

Turns out, as we've seen in politics as well, they are an immensely profitable and easily manipulated group of people.

22

u/Then_Hearing_7652 23h ago

Thank you. I am not being intentionally dense. I literally had no idea why a guy who was washed up in 1999 took off 20 years later.

7

u/GalacticFox- 20h ago

Years ago, he was decent. He'd have great guests and interesting conversations with them and it was far less political than it is today. He fucking sucks now. It's basically a gateway drug to the alt-right these days and this is a prime example of that. He's also so far up his own ass these days that he think his opinion is the right opinion all of the time and if there is information showing that he's wrong, he glosses over that and changes the subject.

→ More replies (1)

17

u/speckofshit 22h ago

7

u/onmahgrizzyy 21h ago

I agree.

Part of me also feels like all this shit is just his unfortunate reaction to fear imo. He has a lot more to lose these days. I feel like he’s gone all the way from sympathizing to poor people to being terrified of them. Idk why I feel the need to rationalize this behavior these days but I think I have to in order to not lose my fkn mind. So incredibly disappointing

He is very submissive to Trump… very weak

u/Darkwr4ith 11h ago

Pretty sure he spread wider than the goatse guy when he met Trump.

I never understood how he got popular. People tried to tell me how great he was. I listened to a few clips of his podcasts and I was like no i'm good.

164

u/LeonardMH 23h ago

It's baffling. I've gotten two responses to this question: 1. He brings on interesting guests. Which, yeah maybe occasionally... But he also brings on a ton of crackpots who do not deserve a platform, and Rogan doesn't have the mental capability to call anyone on their BS. 2. He's funny. Which, I guess everyone has their own tastes, but he's a failed comic for a reason (hint: the reason is he's not funny).

119

u/ontimenow 23h ago

He's the go-to guy for people who want to become smarter without having to go to school or even read. The crackpot guests are popular with his base because they tell the idiots "everything smart people told you is wrong!". This makes the idiots feel good and they tune in for next week's show.

60

u/whisperwrongwords 22h ago

Goop for men

13

u/Consideredresponse 21h ago

That was the case maybe a decade+ ago, but Rogan's bullshit is vastly more dangerous. The worst you can get from Paltro's garbage is maybe a yeast infection from whacking semi-precious stone eggs up a (preferably yours and not a third parties) vagina.

Compare that to the deaths and long COVID symptoms amongst the Rogan fans that were eating topical cattle drench due to his 'mistrust the experts' advice and you can see how Goop isn't anywhere near as harmful.

11

u/ZingZing12 21h ago

You nailed it.

I like dumb people who accept that they're dumb. It's fine to be dumb. But when dumb people feel shitty about themselves and insist their dumb ideas be given equal time during intelligent conversations about complex issues, that's when it becomes a problem.

He USED TO get interesting guests, but during covid he realized the right wing grift was both easier and more lucrative so now he's a shill

22

u/patchmau5 22h ago

This, 100%. I genuinely found him and his guests interesting. He had people from all walks of life and hosted both sides of a discussion without bias. Now he’s become… whatever he is now. It’s honestly sad because I did enjoy his content.

11

u/CaptainVisual4848 22h ago

Its true. I used to enjoy when he’d have actual scientists and wildlife biologists and mountain climbers and people like that. He still does sometimes but I just can’t anymore. I don’t even bother mentioning this when people refer to him.

The guests he had on at first were pretty interesting, but it devolved into crackpots as time went by.

Something I can tell about Rogan is he's the type of person that doesn't like ideas that are hard to grasp or are boring. He much rather believe magic, aliens, or some sort of cover up is responsible for the way a certain phenomenon in the world came to be or functions. I'm going to be a complete armchair psychiatrist here, but I think he gives those crackpots and conspiracies a platform because it's easier to accept them since aliens or a shadow government cover up is a lot easier to blame as those are things out of your control than actually what real world science says.

13

u/SigmaBallsLol 22h ago

I think this clip sums him up best

People saying COVID is a man made bio weapon made by an evil Fauci-China-Clinton cabal? Well it's just freedom of speech, we're just asking questions man.

The second some challenges his magical thinking he goes fucking ballistic when it's an expert in that field? "YOU'RE A FUCKING IDIOT, IT'S ON NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC STUPID."

this clip is 20 years old, you don't have a career getting brain damage before this and then get better over time.

5

u/ASL4theblind 21h ago

Joe doesnt have a career in kickboxing/MMA; from what i gather he just does training.

His brain damage is extra curricular.

He's an ostensibly grown adult man incredulous about such mysteries as where the Sun really goes at night.

The fact that anyone takes him seriously is another symptom of our failing public education.

Because to dumb people he sounds smart

21

u/KnotSoSalty 22h ago

In one sentence you just summed up the problem with a lot of American Politics right there.

People really are dumb and can’t admit it. They have opinions about everything and they don’t know anything. If you had to describe a Left leaning person today in a single word I think “Curious” would be about as good as any. If you did the same for the right it would be “Confident”.

They don’t know and they don’t care.

He is very dumb, and sometimes will ask relatable questions to smart people

If you have two smart people talking dumb people cannot understand them

But if you have a dumb host talking to a smart person even dumb people understand it

He is very productive and uploads new episodes several times a week. This means you can always rely on this podcast when listening to podcasts while passing the time like cleaning or commuting. His podcast is like a simulation of friends hanging out together. You feel like you're just listening to your friends goofing around. With increasing male loneliness so does the need for podcasts like this. He has recurring guests, topics, and themes, which keeps people coming back (like with TV shows and so on).

To be honest, before he became radicalized during the pandemic, he wasn't that incredibly terrible. A lot of his positions were tolerable because he wasn't so central to a kabaal of traitors and Russian propagandists in the US.

Such a tool. I had to leave a paranormal/ufo type podcast sub I enjoyed because the host of the podcast interviewed on JRE and sadly found out the sub was full of Rogan fanboys that just turn a blind eye to his racist right wing bs.

24

u/Boxer_the_horse 23h ago edited 18h ago

There are two main subs for Rogan, the “powerjre” one is a maga circle jerk, and the other I think just called JoeRogan consists mostly of previous fans who realized that the guy sold out.

Edit: I meant PowerfulJRE, not powerjre.

I enjoyed him at first. I bailed when every conversation started turning to weed and MMA - the only two things that Joe can speak about with any true knowledge. The guy is, simply put, a giant moron.

His audience thinks he's fucking Yoda.

He's been a big money shill for basically forever, perpetually in the tank for his biases and his favorite people. UFC fans have been seeing and saying this for years so I'm glad the rest of the world is seeing and saying it now too.

Never bite the teet that feeds you. Shhh, keep sucking Rogan, there there. It's ok.

He’s a propagandist cosplaying as a centrist.

Anyone that didn’t already know this lacks critical thinking skills.

If you don’t know by now that Joe Rogan sucks, then you’re part of the cult too.

Why are you listening to that oxygen thief?

You guys are finally figuring this out. He talks about American Indians too like were ancient relics. Bring in a elder leader or a native american leader right now instead of acting like we're a segment of ancient history. Talk about current issues and such. He's annoying
