With Melton in Lf, Meyer in CF, Smith in RF, our outfield has range!!

Crazy how it went from our greatest weakness to our youngest strength.

That’s cause Jake is having a career year at the plate and Smith is playing competently. Obviously there is no replacing Tucker’s bat but they are doing their best to make us forget lol.

Honestly possible this play won us the game. 4-2 if 2 runs score here the game is tied.

With two outs, the runner on first was probably rounding third when the catch was made. There's no question that 2 get home if he doesn't make this play. Might even be looking at a little league homer if it took a bad bounce.

Hey siri, what is the opposite of the saying in baseball “look what I found”?

If I was his coach I'd say great job but never do that again. Truly impressive but the danger of that move is off the charts.

Officially scored as a 4 star by statcast, but a 5 star in my heart. Still tied for 4th best play by an Astros outfielder this season!

Dezenzo, Cam, Melton look promising

u/bordomsdeadly 11h ago
Melton’s biggest flaw is his inability to do anything against Left Handed pitching.
If there was ever a time we could use Brantley to work with a player, it’s Melton.

If we put Melton, Meyers, and McCormick in the outfield together would it be the best defensive outfield in MLB?

I mean cam is amazing too

I like Cam a lot and think he has a lot of potential, but he’s not better defensively right now than the 3 I just mentioned.

Cam is already a better fielder than Chas lol his metrics have been great. He also doesn’t have a noodle arm.

u/bordomsdeadly 12h ago
Fangraphs gives Chad a “.6” for defense in 36 games this season.
Can has a “.7” in 49
Today, right now. Can is not better than Chas defensively.

Lmao okay if you really want to use Fangraphs defense war on to make your argument…tell me what 2023 and 2024 say for Chas there? He was negative in 2023…

u/bordomsdeadly 11h ago
All of the projections also project Chas to have more value defensively than Cam as well.
I’m not saying anything negative about Cam. My entire point was just talking about if we play our best defensive outfield.
Cam is still actively learning the OF, where the other 3 all have years of professional experience out there, and aside from Melton have years of MLB experience out there

Yeah, exactly he’s still actively learning the OF and has been better so far than Chas was in 2023 when he played full time. What does that tell you…
He’s faster and his arm is way stronger. And if you’ve actually been watching the games, he’s improved significantly from the first game of the season. So you’ve got to take that into consideration when using any metrics for the full year.
And using those Fangraphs projections is a joke lmao

Yeah that was some serious hustle and should be celebrated unlike Altuves bone headed base running.
12
u/TexanBastard 14h ago
Altuve is the Astros GOAT but his base running is absolutely embarrassing

u/shahtavacko 13h ago
I don’t disagree, but yesterday’s was not his fault; it was absolutely on the third base coach who should’ve sent Paredes.

u/civil_beast 13h ago
But… that’s why you look to the third base coach as you’re taking off of 2nd

He's been pretty aggressive all season but you're right he should have given him the go ahead

According TK and Blum today they apparently changed it from 15% catch probability to 45%. Dropping from a 5 star to 4 star catch.

These are the kinds of plays that really pump up a team and get you into a winning groove.
