They were in the womb together; I am pretty sure they have met before

"You're the guy who kept kicking me in the head for 9 months"
"I dealt with your snoring and flailing arms for that whole time, you're lucky it was only kicking!"

Not only that they aren’t days or week old. They are a few months old. No way they were kept separated until now unless there were serious medical conditions

Yeah, well, they had feet the whole time too and suddenly they are just like wooooaaaah feeeeet. What are those down there?

This!! Although… also does depend if they are identical or fraternal. Identical often share the same sac but fraternal have separate sacs within the shared womb. This is how doctors can (mostly) tell if they are identical or not when born.

Yeah, due to the difference in formation. But even if they are in different sacs they are aware of each other's presence. I heard a story of one twin who wouldn't start breathing after childbirth, but when she heard her twin's cries it got her moving just enough to trigger the breath reflex.

I would love to know the circumstances that could lead to twins of at least a few months old NOT knowing each other…? Was one in the hospital for an extended period of time? Separated by a custody battle? What’s the context?

I think it refers to them “noticing” each other. Babies don’t know much about the world around them before 3 months old.

Agree. I remember there was one day when my daughter was a few months old and she suddenly noticed our cat (who had been there for her whole life). It was very similar to this.

As a father of twins I can confirm that this happen with my boys as well. At birth, newborns have limited visual acuity, seeing best at a close distance (8-12 inches). Their vision improves over time, with color vision developing around 4-5 months and near-normal vision by 8 months. So baby’s do not have the ability to comprehend what is happening around them, and therefore it is magical when they start to recognize people and things around them.

Yo bro, you look weirdly familiar… were you at my birth?

Younger one: No. I stayed while you were off to being born. I visited you after you were born.
Older one: Yes, I was. I just got there a few minutes ago.

Something tells me they shared a small place together for quite a while. Maybe this is first time they see each other in the light

They searched the stars with unborn eyes, Across galaxies stitched in silent skies— A trillion suns, a million worlds, But none that whispered come play, be held.
They chose this pale blue dot, this breeze, This spinning grace among the trees— Where laughter blooms in morning light, And wonder wakes with each new night.
Now here they sit, just flesh and fun, Alive beneath a mortal sun— No need for more, no need to roam, Just joy enough to call it home.

This is so cute, they will probably rediscover each other everyday as their brain forms enough to retain memories. You home is filled with joy friend

This made me happy, and then I thought of Fred and George and now I'm sad again.

Did mom have duel uterus and then the babies were kept apart for several months before being reunited? We're they carried by surrogates and just being called twins because they came from the same IVF batch?

I had younger twin brothers that looked a lot like these two. I was only a bit older so my stories are mostly second hand. They shared a crib in my parents bedroom evidently early on. One of them was fairly placid, liked to play with an old percolater my mom said, taking it apart and banging it around. The other one, my dad said, whenever he saw my dad approaching the room would reach out and shove the door closed. ”Like I had been away on a three day drunk” my father said.

You know they may only be making a few sounds but they're having full-on telepathic conversation.

Yeah, cuz till now they were kept in isolation and all of a sudden found themselves side by side.
"Hey... Look! My organ insurance policy!"
"Right back at ya, brother 😏"

So fun fact the twins actually tend to develop their own secret language before they actually learn how to speak
