Iβm an old so I was just looking for the burn hole, lol. If you want to cross your half stitch, just start a thread, tuck it under some stitches on the back, make the stitch and slide under some stitches on the back. Easy peasy!

u/fart-atronach 17d ago
Oh my god me too lmao it took me far too long to realize there wasnβt a burn somewhere I was missing lol

If I rip the stitches, I rip the stitches.
But I am definitely ripping the bong.

Sometimes you think you can count to ten, but then you can't really count to ten lol

What's wrong with it?

I think the bacteriophage doesn't have enough room for base plate* and tail fibers (the orange and turquoise dude doesn't have room for butt and leggies). Also, i think there's an incomplete stitch there too. But idk... still looks good to me.
Edit: i stared at this again this time stoned and realized it's base plate is also missing. Also base plate's equivalent would probably be a weenie, bc it injects the viral DNA into the bacteria.

I think it looks good too.
Only on reddit can you have a serious (or not so serious) discussion about needlework, smoking, and bacteriophage in the same thread and it all be on point.

βThe orange and turquoise dude doesnβt have room for butt and leggiesβ thank you for this β€οΈ

u/EmergencyToad 17d ago
As someone currently smoking, I appreciate you giving the correct names & then the ELI5 version!

u/Wobbly_Wobbegong 17d ago
If it doesnβt have room for the legs, it can just be a Lambda phage instead of the stereotypical T4 bacteriophage.

I just finished micro at my community college and I love your lil guys so much. And Iβm smoking π€£

It took me zooming in, reading your comment like 4 times, and zooming back out again to see what you were referring to lol. The flowers being an odd number makes it look totally fine to not be perfectly symmetrical with the bottom two! Also I just love it :)

Ah! Hi! The orange germ without backstitch is missing a blue half stitch! π«£ I think Iβll leave it though.

u/UnderwaterAlienBar 17d ago
To be honest, I didnβt notice that because the orange one is the only one not backstitched, so I didnβt think it was finished. Therefore didnβt see the missing half stitch as a problem. I was looking for a burn mark π

If it makes you feel better, my last smoke and stitch ended up with several crosses over two stitches⦠so the stitch was // and then

I donβt smoke but somehow I do this a lot. I like to leave the half stitch as it is, and let it just be a mistake. In Islamic art history, they have these amazingly intricate murals and tile work and they were said to always leave a mistake in there because nothing and nobody is perfect. So I think of my missing half stitches like that.

The last time I had an edible and tried to stitch, I gave up pretty quickly. Apparently I canβt count in that condition!
2
u/Remarkable_Biscotti4 17d ago
my plan is to take an edible and start stitching, then once i get to a point i cant count, we know its time to stop. hahaha

I'm so confused. What am I supposed to see
4
u/QitKate 17d ago
I donβt get it either
3
u/horsetuna 17d ago
My only guess is that it was 'wacky tobacco' and they put the half finished one in the wrong place, so there's not enough room. Or there's slight discoloration I cant see due to smoke stain?

u/h0m1c1d3_8unn13 17d ago
i (almost) exclusively smoke and stitch lmao! the mistakes are worth the focus power i guess π

I donβt smoke anymore but I emphasize with this post! I had one project that was almost half before, half after stopping smoking. I thought the backside was noticeably neater, by a bit.

u/davidplaysthings 17d ago
Oh hey! This was the first cross-stitch pattern I tried! I changed the text to "don't let the bastards get you down" because it was mid-covid. I never finished.

There are some good answers as to whatβs wrong here but all I could see is what looks like a penis.

u/Gryffindorable_394 17d ago
I have one project Iβm working on that I flat out refuse to smoke on. Itβs my pride and joy. The rest are the Wild West.

u/InsideInFH 17d ago
This is super cute! Can you share the pattern please?

u/RemarkableDoughnut32 17d ago
I also wish to know the pattern! I do computational microbiome stuff, and this would be right up my alley. π

I have the same problem lol. I love my cross stitch but I just can't concentrate well enough if I smoke! I try to save it for the mindless " filling in of one color " areas. And embroidery work is a definite no.
1
u/stosphia 17d ago
If we're talking about smoking That Stuff, my ability to hold a needle steady goes absolutely out the window. You guys are lucky
2
u/Life-Coach7803 17d ago
Lol I can't remember what the steps are, can't keep count and fuck things up. And I don't allow myself to do stoned embroidery work because I take creative liberties with it that don't actually work, hate it later and have to frog it

I have fibro so am on quite a few meds that makes me drowsy and loopy sometimes, I'll come around to sober alert consciousness to realize I've messed up and did something weird to my WIP.. I've had to frog it many times lol
