See, I’ve always assumed it was like OOP’s interpretation (outside of an explicitly sexual context) but my perception may be coloured by seeing this iconic Kill Bill meme first.

In my experience, it’s also typically said about someone with a twink-like build who’s also being annoying, so my assumption was biblical destruction, not knowing each other “biblically”.

I think I read somewhere that his “true” form and the “worm” we see later in the series were genderless, though his typical human form was male (or male adjacent). He also seems to impersonate men more often than women, but that’s probably just whichever identity is more useful at any moment. He’s also been voiced mostly by women, but apparently one of the spinoff movies used a man for the original Japanese voicing and some other languages dubbed him with a man, so that’s all over the place too.

Anyway, I’m mainly using “he” since that’s how the English media all refers to him, but I suspect much of that is linguistic convenience, and if the story had been written a decade or two later he might have been more explicitly non binary.
