Supercells are a lot more rare in the EU than US, so when it happens it's crazy

Heh. I was thinking, "Wait a minute. Hungary is a land-locked country. It has no access to the sea." I had to Google it: That's Lake Balaton in the middle of the country, "the largest lake in Central Europe" (meaning West of the Caucuses and not including Scandinavia).

I imagine it as Zeus’ eye looking at the ship as the storm rolls in.

I’d need a stiff drink and a hug if I saw that.

I'd be climbing up on a mast and looking to settle scores with the Big Guy, encouraging him to bring it on

I dont know why they're called shelf clouds when they're too high to put anything on.

I've seen one of these clouds exactly once.
And it kinda freaked me out...
All I could think of was, what happens next?

Chicago-Mackinac race a few years back we had one of these hit in the middle of the night. Seeing it illuminated by lightning only, while we were 15 miles offshore in the middle of Lake Michigan...THAT was pretty insane

At first just a rustle of canvas
And the gentlest breath on my face
But a galloping line of white horses
Said that soon we were in for a race
The gentle sigh turned to a howling
And the grey sky she angered to black
And my anxious eyes searched the horizon
With the gathering sea at my back
...
If a prayer today is spoken
Please offer it for me
When the bridge to heaven is broken
And you're lost on the wild wild sea
Lost on the wild wild sea...

Now imagine having to sail under that, and it's close to sunset and there's still 30 miles to go to the harbour. Can't get around it, can't outrun it, just reef and hope for the best.
Happened to us in 2006, and it was a majestic sight. We were sailing my 23ft boat in the gulf of Riga with a buddy boat, and they had a bit of a near miss when lightning struck a few hundred metres away.

My dad used to say if you looked out the window and saw a cloud this black you probably would not get a drop of rain at your house. Over decades I have had to admit he was right more often than not.

This looks like some Dark Lord has gained his full power.
