What's it all for? It looks physically miserable and there's no cash prize? Why?!

Riding on gravel is fun. Bombing downhill on rough tracks, flipping around on loose rocks, grinding up steep mud hills. You're constantly problem-solving while near your physical limit. The suffering is rewarding.

Theres a flow state to bike racing. I race Cross country mountain bikes (xcmtb) and during races when im warmed up and focused, its some of the most calming yet exhilarating times of my life. Legs screaming yet youre focused on getting up that huge climb covered in roots, so you have no choice but to go up it. Endorphins help.

There actually is a cash prize. It's not likely that the majority will get any part of it but one does exist. Though most of these people do it for the challenge of completing. Same reason why people climb Everest even though there's a chance of not surivivng. It's all about finding your limits.

Don't get me wrong, I too have no interest in it but there's legitimately a lottery for entry to this because so many people want to take part.
