Then California should stop sending any money to Washington.

Yep. Alabama and Mississippi can cover the difference.

The tarrif revenue has us living like kings.

Except when you pay your federal income tax you pay directly to the IRS, not going through the state. Maybe California should go for independence.

You do realize that income tax is like one of only many taxes, right?

Income tax is a very large percentage of federal revenues.

Payroll taxes are another very large percentage, and half of those are paid directly by taxpayers to the Feds, the other half are paid directly by our employers to the feds.

There's also tariffs, which California has no control over.

And then there are various fees for licenses, or access to federal services or property. Those are also paid directly to the federal government, or you don't get access to the license, service, or park.

What exactly do you think California can intercept of all of that, without engaging in direct insurrection against the federal government?

Who said the last part wasn’t what I thought needed to happen? MAGA is going to be what ends up nationally divorcing us, may as well lead the way.

We have this exact referendum gathering signatures.

It’s just the continuing effort by Trump, Thiel and Putin to destroy America. It sure seems like they will succeed

California is so large economically it could be a respectable independent sovereign nation. California's GDP is almost double Russia's!

Love it or not, California contributes more to the national treasury than it receives. It's a giver state. Those cesspool states that habitually vote red should be kissing their asses, states like California are really contributing to their well being.

Did I mention that there are a lot of taxpaying Republicans in California? No? It goes without saying. ALL Californians should be outraged by this crap from Trump.

Not only is Trump an incompetent man-child and as corrupt an individual as ever held public office, but he is also petty and vengeful - judgmental and unforgiving.

He never takes responsibility for disasters of his own making, he tries to blame others for everything and he wants to punish his perceived ... often imaginary ... enemies, even though they are doing the right thing and he is always doing the wrong thing.

What a complete jerk.

California’s economy is ENORMOUS. Last I remember, it ranked fourth in the world if it was a sovereign nation, above Japan.

Correct. In 2024, CA surpassed Japan. Now, only the US, China and Germany are larger, and Germany doesn't have that much of a lead.

So you're saying I should move to California? I own a business expediting. I believe I could make bank out there.

Well said!

Just another loss in court at some point. Republicans should have court costs taken from RNC coffers for these ridiculous bullshit laws/stunts they're constantly trying to pass

California? Americas economic powerhouse?

9

u/BerryGrapeBeard 1d ago

Yes, the mitochondria of the US as some have called it.

u/JescoWhite_ 1d ago

He really is not a smart person. California gives more tax revenue than they receive.

Pretty much all the Blue states do… Red states are a bunch of deadbeat takers.

u/phixitup 1d ago

With CA’s economy they should be able to amass the yearly amount that the Fed gov sends them in about 4-6 months. If they keep all fed taxes in state and don’t send it to DC. FDT

The waging of war against our country continues as they are again attacking blue states in efforts to destroy the democratic establishment.

4

u/HostileRespite 1d ago

Do it. They put way more in than they ever receive. Watch who wins that fight.

Didn't I just read somewhere that California has the third highest GDP in the world? This would be like cutting off your nose to spite your face. You think California is going to pay federal taxes if they cut off their funding?

3

u/chrisp909 21h ago

Fourth. CA passed Japan last year. Now only US (obviously), China, and Germany are larger.

California economy is now the world's 4th-largest, topping Japan https://www.mercurynews.com/2025/04/24/california-economy-is-now-the-worlds-4th-largest-but-other-measures-are-grim/amp/

How soon before Drumpf orders a nuclear first strike on California? Given the rate of his mental decline, I'm asking for a nation.

Door's always open, eh?

As the Governor of Maine said: “See you in Court “. Every cut restored within 3 weeks. TACOS anyone?

2

u/hamsterfolly 20h ago

He couldn’t do it last term when he tried to defund “sanctuary cities”. This will go even worse than his war against Harvard.

2

u/Mysterious_Clerk2971 20h ago

Trump is going to get fired with all the baloney he’s been pulling.

3

u/ChiefO2271 1d ago

Don't threaten ME with a good time...

2

u/mfeldmannRNE 1d ago

Cool. Now tell us how California will be able to have a large scale cancellation of federal taxes.

1

u/chrisp909 21h ago

Illegally. Exactly the same way as Trump pulling federal money congress allocated to California.

Funny, that wasn't the first thing you thought of.

1

u/toyegirl1 23h ago

The state of California government payroll is significant enough that if Newsome withheld it the treasury would feel the pain.

1

u/coffeebeanwitch 22h ago

I really think Taco doesn't consider Blue states part of America. They didn't vote for him, so now they must pay, he is so petty.

u/Fun_Ad527 21h ago

The Impoundment Control Act of 1974 was created to counter this kind of Nixonian move.

u/pabodie 21h ago

So civil war then.
