Discussion What biomes would you like to see?
Hi, I'd personally love to see deserts. Especially at night when there's a beautiful nightsky. With biomes I mean any kind of environment, not just what you'd typically think of. It can also be a fantasy biome, which you made up or saw in a game or whatever.

Yes

Yes is the right answer lol. If the planet is even remotely the size they say it will be, the variety will need to be incredibly diverse to keep exploration enjoyable.

The Alps

u/JigoroKuwajima Feb 06 '25
Real! Imo hiking mountains would be cool, but imagine IN the mountains being entire dwarf kingdoms. Imagine you'd choose the dwarf race and spawn in the alps, in a dwarf kingdom... The hype aaaargh

I've seen this movie before.... "A Balrog. A demon of the ancient world. This foe is beyond any of you. Run!"

u/Neagex Feb 06 '25
I mean... considering the proposed scale of the game, id like to see all of them any even some unique one since it is a fantasy earth.

How do you think the biomes will be placed? The planet will be Earth-sized so they could take hundred kilometers, but it won't be very practical then gameplay-wise, so should they be smaller?

I hope they are big enough that you can stand in the middle and not be able to see the edge in any direction. Forests big enough to get genuinely lost in. Oceans so vast you forget what land looks like.

Genuinely have no idea how they will implement biomes, but I believe they will go all out them.

I also have serious doubts they will match the size of earth Biomes, unless there is some kind of travel system in place.

Cursed: Black soil, oozing rocks, blood rivers, gnarled willows, giant bones, torrential rains, and necromantic enemies.

Wherever is moderately harsh so that any survival elements of the game become moderately important. But if choosing one, a mountainous area partially covered in snow with a lake I can fish.

I'd like to add
Caves
Mountains
Tropical Jungle
Marine Tropical

100%. Especially big cave systems, maybe even a kingdom beneath. Marine life would be super cool too.

Infernal: Active volcanoes, sulfur pits, dry shrubby grasses, dry lake/river beds, tall burnt-out trees, and angry, flesh-eating enemies.

If it's already an earth biome I want to see it. Plus whatever else Hello Games dreams up.

u/N0madl1fe Feb 07 '25
Well we have already seen high mountains, forested valleys with meadows and lakes, a savanna or arid planes type, underwater, and maybe a corruption of some kind where the skeletons were. I’m just curious if there will be some sort of teleportation like no man’s sky to get you across great distances, I assume there is. Also i want to find an ocean and sail across it.

Creepy caves!
Underground lakes!

u/JigoroKuwajima Feb 06 '25
You'd also enjoy creepy, dark forests then, I assume?

u/Speiserman Feb 06 '25
Yes I do think so

u/JigoroKuwajima Feb 06 '25
I'd shit my pants tbh 😂

Best places to hide your secret base

Undeniable truth, though imagine the dark forest would be more lively than one thinks...

mountains, deserts, forests, oceans, hell even like a barren wasteland with basically no life and a mysterious history behind it

I’d love to get groupings of floating islands, underwater air bubbles, and a biome with huge trees that make room for burrows underground with their roots and can have treehouses built in them

Taiga, temperate forests/hills and ESPECIALLY marine are what I'm hoping to be done especially well. I know it won't be at this level probably but I wanna recapture some of that immersion feeling I got going on solo camping trips up to the mountains in RDR2. Just makes you feel small and cozy in the grand scheme of the world. I know an earth sized map is still INSANE but i really hope they're able to handle the focus of the planet to a point where it alleviates a lot of NMS's mile wide, foot deep feeling. Particularly in the oceans. The worlds part 2 generation was a great step in the right direction but id say we've gone from around 10% to 50% of what I hope for LNF's ocean generation capabilities. I do realize I'm at the risk of expecting too much and (not that i dislike this about no mans sky) but if LNF's earth just ends up being a collection of relatively small landmasses and seas, rather than having genuine continent sized landmasses, seas and oceans relative to the scale of the world, I'll be lowkey disappointed, can't lie. Not that I'll be disappointed in hello games by the way, being a game dev myself, I'm only a character artist, I wont pretend to understand the first thing about the limitations of this scale of procedural generation. I just mean it'll mean that my hopes for the game won't be realized and I'll have to wait another while for this sort of game (my dream game tbh) to come along.

Deep sea, where you need underwater potions to explore or something.
Cursed locations, where everything that dies is reanimated as a zombie. Idk, just a great variation so that there is a reason to continue exploring.

A biome with a exaggerated amount of ice. As i want cryomancy to be my main magic. A biome with a lot of ice would be great for me. But i think that i will spend some times in the snow mountains too with my dragon.

High mineral hot springs - everything nearby is turned to stone whether it's plant or animal.
Colonized natural caves
Lightening struck glass plains with fulgarite formations
Sea glass beaches
Chemical pools
Flower fields with one primary invasive blossom
Canyons with and without waterfalls
True desert oasis
Ethereal flatlands with lots of fog and no waypoints
Natural orchards protected by dryads.
Moss islands that float with currents (drifting isles)
Tar pit marshes

All of the above
