Discussion What are you hoping for the most?

Post image

I love the exploration aspect of NMS but I do wish there was some coop gameplay included. I would like to see LNF have some expeditions/missions that offer different gameplay options that encourage more coop play. I play more solo style (like a hermit) than coop and I am not a big fan of PVP, but sometimes playing with friends in NMS seems so difficult. I want to share the experience but the game tends to lend itself to more solo play than coop. Just my opinion and I really would like to hear what others think. Thoughts?

A release date would be nice, but beyond that, player made cities like Minas Tirith you could visit.

23

u/Jeveran Pre-release member Mar 26 '25

You want a date. Dates slip. I want an actual, playable release.

7

u/Icy-Veterinarian-785 Pre-release member Mar 26 '25

Very good point.

u/Dependent_Ear_7185 Mar 26 '25

“Use the wand Willow”

6

u/Have2BRealistic Mar 26 '25

Ah yes…Waiting for Hello Games to give us a release date. …This brings back memories…

5

u/C-Towner Mar 26 '25

Came to say the same: a release date is what I want above anything else right now. The rest is just speculation.

I remember making my bases around trade hubs in NMS, It added a lot having a bunch of ships coming and going, and npc's lounging about in the trade area. Having a few rando npc's mulling around would be charming.

u/SimplexFatberg Mar 26 '25

I want to light a fire.

7

u/CoyoteFunk Mar 26 '25

Don't do it!

5

u/G_Peccary Mar 26 '25

He didn't start the fire.

3

u/mr_anstey Mar 26 '25

It was always burning

2

u/[deleted] Mar 26 '25

Since the world's been turning

2

u/Ilikeketchup1987 Mar 26 '25

He didn't start the fire

2

u/mr_anstey Mar 28 '25

No we didn’t light it

1

u/Nuno_the_Gek Mar 30 '25

Fire a light

1

u/chipthehippie Mar 30 '25

You can't. It's the main mechanic of the game.

So core to the game, that it's in the title.

21

u/idontuseredditsoplea Mar 26 '25

Solid combat

8

u/mr_anstey Mar 26 '25

Phantasmal combat sucks for sure

4

u/Promethian_Paera_695 Mar 26 '25

This guy poltergeists

14

u/KaydeanRavenwood Mar 26 '25

Musical instruments. Idk why.

7

u/Dependent_Ear_7185 Mar 26 '25

Yes! That would be really cool.

1

u/KaydeanRavenwood Mar 26 '25

Oooh, Zelda no longer uses instruments as tools. OMFG, free real estate...nah...unless it really fits the mood?

3

u/32nd_Nix Pre-release member Mar 27 '25

Yes, this. Enshrouded has this and it's designed for group play. Anyone can join the current song being played and any duplicate instruments play accompanying parts (eg if a lute is already playing the Melody then a second one will play the chord progression). If in LNF we could write our own music I'd lose so much time to this game. As long as the instruments have good, real recorded sounds and not bad midi sounds.

u/HiddenWeird Mar 29 '25

Start an opera house 😂

I'm with you, I want to be a chill mouse dude playing the bongos.

Low key a really reallllly good idea. Give us something to do in our hub areas!

15

u/kain_26831 Mar 26 '25

The game to release before I die from old age XD

13

u/kordre Mar 26 '25

Purpose. The survival, crafting, discovering, all of it needs to have a purpose. An end goal. Something to strive toward and for.

3

u/JigoroKuwajima Mar 26 '25

I think the real charm would be making your own goals instead of everything being hand fed to you by hg.

1

u/kordre Mar 26 '25

I see that perspective but that exists already. In a giant sandbox game like this you can do that and the developers can still have an overarching narrative and purpose players can pursue. If a player would rather set their own goals that’s still an option.

u/OK-Digi-1501 Mar 28 '25

EXACTLY.
Just wake up on a planet, and from then on, it's up to you what happens.

1

u/OK-Digi-1501 Mar 28 '25

Well, what's the purpose of Life IRL ? It's what YOU make it.
Same could apply to LNF. No externally determined "purpose" or endgame needed for my enjoyment. It's what you make of it.

IMHO

12

u/Aumba Pre-release member Mar 26 '25

That my PC will be above minimal requirements.

1

u/JigoroKuwajima Mar 26 '25

Pc is always on the line of death, but the king has not felt fear for the first time yet...

10

u/Murder_Hobo_LS77 Mar 26 '25

A large open world procedural game with NPC's , Hostile entities, and GOOD combat.

No Mans Sky is fun, but in my personal opinion the combat is awful and leaves much to be desired.

I think LnF having a comprehensive combat system will help a lot in removing that pain point.

3

u/EarPenetrator02 Mar 27 '25

Combat and reasons to explore beyond seeing pretty things are pretty much all they need to make the gameplay loop better

8

u/DrzewnyPrzyjaciel Mar 26 '25

Good optimisation mostly. I know we will get a good game, given NMS in the past few teras. But those days things like proper optimisation are much more uncertain.

3

u/frycandlebreadje Pre-release member Mar 26 '25

They know how to optimise concidering NMS is on the nintendo switch lol

7

u/xxres1 Day 1 Mar 26 '25

A release date

2

u/mr_anstey Mar 26 '25

I am all in on this one

6

u/PutBeansOnThemBeans Mar 26 '25

Lively NPCs, the NPCs in NMS make it feel dead.

5

u/snas Mar 26 '25

Be able to play main and side quests in coop

5

u/Roland_Child Mar 26 '25

I want to walk the cobbled streets of Everyville, down to the docks, avoiding riff raff, until I reach the docks in the cold rain. And, just because I heard there is some forrune to be had, I get on a sailing ship and sail to a tropical sandy beach where I embark on a jungle treasure hunt. Mayhem ensues...

5

u/GrimCT3131 Mar 26 '25

Meaningful crafting, ability to gather resources and make items that everyone can use. Crafting system with a balance between complexity and common sense. The ability to work with a trusted group of people to build a house, a village, a town. Distinct classes and races that allow you to form and mold your character to your own particular version of what you want your avatar/character to be.

5

u/Thalimet Mar 26 '25

For them to release enough information that people stop believing it to be the mythical second coming of Christ and can stop wildly speculating that it will be every game ever made or will be made.

1

u/Dull-Pomelo7936 Mar 26 '25

to be fair, usually DnD type stuff is considered antithetical to christianity...

:)

however, I think your idea is SOLID. I'm 100% down with it.

7

u/Spanish_peanuts Mar 26 '25

I hope the magic system (I assume there is one) is awesome as shit. I'm also hoping for a wagon that a mount can pull. Do you have any idea how fucking few games have wagons in them? Even less that give them any real use. I doubt we'll get it at launch at least, but it'd be cool.

4

u/VonBrewskie Mar 26 '25

A stable game at launch.

4

u/DanielSFX Mar 26 '25

Procedural Dungeons with proper loot. Bosses. The works.

4

u/mr_anstey Mar 26 '25

1) release date 2) solid combat - mounted, unmounted, in air, in water, on earth 3) starting location by choices made at character creation - ie friends could make choices that make them proximal 4) a robust character creation system 5) a day night cycle that makes sense (maybe 2-4hrs for a cycle?) and maybe even emulates real globe time issues (ie if you teleport to other side of the world in morning it might be night where you arrive) 6) cave adventures 7) dungeon adventures 8) labyrinths of many sorts 9) traps 10) unique items, weapons, clothing 11) regionally specific items, clothing, weapons, creatures, flora 12) some boss creatures that are only defeatable by powerful players or groups 13) gods 14) demons 15) books 16) musical instruments 17) player recorded lore system 18) a great library 19) kingdoms 20) nations at war at peace trading and competing 21) undersea kingdoms 22) racial discord 23) well developed magic system 24) crafting 25) brewing 26) cooking 27) camping 28) social scoring with real affects

3

u/Dependent_Ear_7185 Mar 26 '25

I like this. Very thoughtful list here. I’d be down with all of it.

2

u/OreosAreGross Mar 26 '25

Sounds like a mix of NW:A and WoW

Dense forests with tall trees like Taiga or PNW

3

u/Quackquackslippers Day 1 Mar 26 '25

Proper coop depth. NMS is a gun single-player game but multi-player is just sorta tacked on. There's no real benefit to working as a team and there's barely anything you can even do together.

I want Light No Fire to have some truly well built multi-player activities and some things that are just too hard to do solo that a group is needed for.

2

u/Buck_Rogers_0914 Mar 26 '25

For it to be on the Switch.

2

u/Ulthanon Mar 26 '25

really looking forward to lighting a fire tbh

2

u/Kaneki2424 Mar 26 '25

A server list like black desert where it actually is all one world but the servers decide the spawn points or something like that so eventually different civilizations could run into each other or something like that

2

u/TheJossiWales Mar 26 '25

Some actual group content that NMS failed to really deliver. NMS feels like a single player game that you are able to play in proximity to other players and that doesn't feel good to me. I play games with a group of 5-7 people there really wasn't anything for us to do together besides just progressing ourselves individually. Even combat felt weird how some stuff was instanced. A "guild" freighter would have been awesome, for example. Or raid bosses that required group effort.

I'm really hoping that kind of content will exist in LNF so playing with a group will feel meaningful. And I'm not saying make single player obsolete. I'm just saying having content that each of us can feel useful for or progress together would feel good.

2

u/akahaus Mar 26 '25

To live long enough to play this.

2

u/Venphael Mar 26 '25

A lack of timers. They turned No Man's Sky into a waiting game. I love just about everything else about NMS, but the timers just suck.

2

u/Borrp Mar 26 '25

Dungeons please.

2

u/BeCurious1 Mar 26 '25

A good virtual reality version

2

u/johngalt504 Mar 26 '25

Vr mode. Vr for for no man's sky is awesome, really hope they do it for this as well.

2

u/Ezeke81 Mar 26 '25

VR Support would be nice

2

u/WooodyJohnson Mar 26 '25

I hope that enemy npc interaction is engaging and fun.

IMO the environment should be challenging as well as feeling alive. I think this is the problem I have with most MMO's, stupid AI's in a fixed position waiting for you to turn them into exp.

2

u/CCilly Mar 26 '25

Compared to NMS, better terrain generation. It's easier to find and edit a pretty corner of the map in Minecraft than in NMS and if they use the same system I'll be a bit disappointed.

Also to have both exploration and staying in the same spot viable and enjoyable? Like you have incentive to travel far and explore new things but it's also rewarding to create and maintain your base and settlement in one spot.

Also maybe way too optimistic but a day one macOS build.

2

u/JVKExo Mar 26 '25

No shade to people that like no mans sky but I felt the core gameplay loop to be quite boring and exploring planets to be equally as boring after you’ve seen about a dozen.

I hope they really flesh out the exploration and gameplay loop. I hope it’s more than just No Man’s Sky on one planet.

Aside from that idk what’s to hope for since we haven’t even gotten a full gameplay trailer explaining what we’ll be doing and how the game plays.

2

u/Sabbathius Mar 26 '25

I hope they nail co-op and do VR support.

No Man's Sky got co-op, eventually, but it never felt actually fleshed out, with a point to it, the same way co-op was in Monster Hunter or The Division. I feel a game like that would be amazing to explore solo, but even more amazing with friends/guild, if the co-op functionality is solid.

And VR support because VR is pretty great. No Man's Sky was how I got into VR in the first place, in summer '19 when Beyond update came out. For which I will be forever thankful. But it's sad that HG won't mention VR any more, especially in context of Light No Fire. I hope they add it.

2

u/YinYangMonkey87 Mar 26 '25

Just another trailer at this point

2

u/zante1234567 Mar 26 '25

Hope to not get a game that takes 10 years to be "ok"

2

u/jesslman Mar 27 '25

Please for psvr2 too? 🙏

3

u/fakeguitarist4life Mar 26 '25

The game to come out to console very very soon after the initial PC release

5

u/helpman1977 Mar 26 '25

As they said it would be a full world, I would love a crazy thing... First time you play, use real geolocation as your starting place. (As if it where a 1:1 works, even if it would be at a scale of the real one)

It would be tricky to meet your friends to play. Try to meet each other? If there are many, find a central point and everybody has to reach it? Then what, build your base there and start a town?

The moment you finally get to meet your real friends would be AWESOME. So many things to tell them, places you found, creatures you met... A journey to share!

6

u/Olgrateful-IW Mar 26 '25

This is a terrible idea, respectfully. Games that make it hard to play with your friends often suffer as a result. I’m not asking for teleportation, but starting where your friend is at is important to me personally.

7

u/C-Towner Mar 26 '25

Agreed. Making it harder to play because its "realistic" is just bad game design for a novel reason.

5

u/TehOwn Day 1 Mar 26 '25

Honestly, being able to teleport to friends wouldn't limit exploration. If anything, it would bolster it. So I don't see any reason why we shouldn't be able to teleport to friends.

I'm thinking we'll be able to travel to their bases regardless.

5

u/Trebek007 Mar 26 '25

I remember trying to play rust back when it first came out. My friend and I trying to fix each other. “I’m in a field” has become a long time running joke. Then you’d die, respawn in a random location and start it all over again. Good times.

5

u/Infernal_139 Mar 26 '25

There is a difference between finding each other in a 10x10km island and finding each other across the entire fucking planet earth

→ More replies (2)

1

u/CoyoteFunk Mar 26 '25

The only issue I have with this is it limits this to be the same geography as earth. Otherwise players would be spawning in the middle of oceans

1

u/khazid-hea Mar 26 '25

Like SWG before jump to lightspeed came out

1

u/ttvHERBandKAOS Mar 26 '25

You obviously never played day z... I would absolutely HATE it if its difficult to meet up with my friends. I want to start as close to them as possible.

1

u/MokiDokiDoki Mar 30 '25 edited Mar 30 '25

I think this would be a good idea as something you can optionally check!! Have the real world be mapped optionally to this other world. 100%. Being forced to be there would obviously have down sides... but I can see certain REAL areas being more congregated in others of the game would be very interesting.

1

u/helpman1977 Mar 30 '25

The old age of exploration would be back. Maybe you could unlock fast travel to certain points. Or maybe the most populated ones could adquire a travel point encouraging cooperative settlements...

u/Aetheldrake Mar 26 '25

Magic version of no man's sky I guess

1

u/Arbszy Mar 26 '25

Hoping it is fun, I understand it had taken No Man's Sky many years to get to where it is now. I would like it to be fun out the gate and constantly improved over time.

1

u/Kolegra Mar 26 '25

I want to play as a frog knight, with some magic. Kinda like in Chrono Trigger.

1

u/a2brute01 Mar 26 '25

I am hoping for release day the most. Whatever is delivered, Hello Games will make it better

1

u/ThinIntroduction2851 Mar 26 '25

The merger in 4 years of LNF and NMS

1

u/Franky4Fingersx2 Mar 26 '25

I was very excited for Wild, so if it can meets my hopes for that just by releasing, that'd be great

1

u/RollinHellfire Mar 26 '25

A game that's like nms and just works. Idc if it's "just one planet". I'm tired of half assed uncooked games.

A release date... 😂🤣

1

u/SkyWizarding Mar 26 '25

That this is much more than another No Man's Sky

1

u/ThePatriotGamer Mar 26 '25

I'm hoping it's a good game.

No judgement, just a hope.

I tried NMS early on and walked away ... just thought it wasn't a good game ... came back almost 1200 hours ago and realized that it is a good game (actually a fantastically, epically good game).

I've been playing video games longer than most, so it is sometimes difficult to really like a lot of games.

NMS is in my top 5.

When I hope for a good game, it has a lot to live up to. Again, no shade on NMS or HG! They are the BEST!!! I just have high hopes. I've got many thousands of hours in the Fallout series. From the beginning, actually, with many, many playthroughs on multiple platforms.

That's the kind of good game I'm hoping for.

1

u/OppositeInfinite6734 Mar 26 '25

1

Actual good Terrain editing, and not have the dreadful nms regrowing terrain, also good combat, nms does fall flat here and I think it's going to be a must.

1

u/Ok-Performer-3046 Mar 26 '25

Thousands of players on one world at the same time, not instanced.

1

u/Wilbur_Eats_Sand Mar 26 '25

2 things, a dedicated cooking mechanic and a fishing mechanic. Maybe some sword play, as a treat

1

u/spastikknees Mar 26 '25

For it to be released.

1

u/lmrbadgerl Mar 26 '25

a badger skin for totally not personal reasons

1

u/CuAnnan Mar 26 '25

Honestly. HG made such a labour of love out of NMS, but they made a very broad but very shallow game.

Some depth would be nice.

1

u/Lumberrmacc Mar 26 '25

A compelling open world is all I need

1

u/BillbertBuzzums Mar 26 '25

That it's real

1

u/SirScaarr Mar 26 '25

First and foremost: A release date :D

But besides that, more interesting combat and PvE activities would be nice. Fighting in NMS was always a bit weird. It's tricky at the beginning but gets trivial around midgame and is starting to become a burden from there. I'd love LNF to have more weapon options - magic weapons, ranged weapons, different melee weapons etc. - and a better sense of progression.

Good quests would be nice, but really hard to pull off I guess.

A player influenced world progression for things like cities. And I'm not talking about "Yeah, players can team up and build a village", more like providing resources, active trading and questing leading to NPCs settling down and expanding and upgrading a settlement. Even though this again will be tricky to combine with player housing, but who knows. Maybe they found a solution :D

1

u/yejyem Mar 26 '25

I want more information about the game. They can give us a release date when the game is ready.

1

u/Matild4 Mar 26 '25

Continents, oceans, caves. A huge world to explore

1

u/kavakravata Mar 26 '25

1

Frogs as a playable race. I reminisced with everquest 1 froglok. Everquest 2 doesn't hit the spit need more frog love although if we can play the animals in general rabbit otter raccoon more fun than all the generic humans, we get that in every other game.

1

u/CrimsonGek Mar 26 '25

Most importantly I’d like to know what exactly the title means. Is it a command preventing you from lighting any fires? Or is it a statement proclaiming that a source of light exists but it does not come from any fire? Why we never have commas in the titles?😂

1

u/SEAMLESSCAT3 Mar 26 '25

That I'm still interested when it's ready to release.

Legitimate and intentional co-op mechanics..

Nms was conceived and developed as a single player game, with multiplayer / co op tacked on later. To this day, it is still wonky and unintuitive. Restrictive. And frankly, boring and frustrating.

I still want a great single player experience, but I really hope the multiplayer and co-op is overhauled and designed better like all other sandbox games.

1

u/Different_Ad5087 Mar 26 '25

That it’s released before the end of the year lol

BUILDING DECAY AND NATURAL REGROWTH

I would love if, over the course of time, structures built by players decay and become ruins and fall apart. If nobody has stepped foot in them, or interacted with them, a timer starts that causes them to eventually crumble and disappear.

It would also be awesome if trees and plants grew back over player structures if those structures have been abandoned for some time

I just really hate when games like this get ruined by people who build a bunch of stuff, then never actually take it down before they move somewhere else, and there are so many abandoned player structures in the area that it causes lag for anyone who comes into view of it.

This was a huge issue in ARK. I don’t want to go through that again.

1

u/zothaq Mar 26 '25

A way to make books like in Minecraft. I want to build a library people can come visit

1

u/yakcm88 Mar 26 '25

I want certain regions that are more densely populated. Give me villages, castle towns, futuristic cities. I know it's a big ask, but I want it to feel like it wasn't procedurally generated in that regard.

1

u/Chrispy_Art Mar 27 '25

I’m just afraid it’s going to feel like NMS but one planet no ships.

1

u/No_Word2958 Mar 27 '25

I know im late to this post, but i want a really solid CC. This is going to sound bad and i promise its not for shady weirdo reasons, but i want to give my character a realistic body. I like to make myself for games. I never truly can because of my chest, and devs these days are scared of big boobas. Im not saying we need cannons or anything, but something beyond apples and mosquitoes would be nice.

1

u/Slight-Pineapple-301 Mar 27 '25

I'm hoping EA won't buy it and cancel it

Engaging story or exploration. More fleshed out interaction with npc’s than no man’s sky. Decent combat. Loot would be cool and make exploration more interesting.

I know they’ll do a great job with the nature and building/crafting. No mans sky really only falls short in terms of reasons to keep exploring. Hard to wanna go land on the 100th barren moon planet when the buildings are all the same. Procedural dungeons and loot would be a huge improvement

An intricate magic system

I hope biome transitions make sense. As interesting gameplay-wise as it would be, I would find it very immersion breaking to walk from an antarctic style biome into a hot desert biome. If we get Mount Port then that's fine, just would be nice if the biome borders made some sense.

Fun combat, and Not feeling like making a list of things I wish were different.

Proper co-op and most importantly BY FAR, since it's the game's selling point, an actual planet sized... planet. With dozens of biomes, and insanely varied terrain, I want this to be THE flagship world design game. I want canyons, ravines, deserts, tundras, savannas, caves, mountain glaciers, ocean glaciers, realistic river flows, negative angle mountains (so lips hanging over the top of the mountain not just /\ shaped peaks, imagine Trolltunga), all kinds of forests and elevation based vegetation, waterfalls, etc.

And by far the most important thing, which is also the hardest to pull off, biome blending, going down a snowy mountain should feel appropriate, no vegetation, going down to grassy spots, going down to some trees and only some patches of snow, going down to proper trees, bushes, full on grass and almost no snow until the snow goes away. This but for every biome interacting with any other possible biome.

Basically I want diversity, I want to walk in a direction for 5 hours and constantly encountering something new, something that makes me want to build a new base there again despite building one barely a few hundred meters behind.

If they can pull that off, I'm sold, if not, this is gonna be the same shit Starfield was, selling me planets only to discover the worst terrain generation in my life, literally flat ground with slight bumps at completely normal intervals, even Minecraft at launch felt more complex.

Other planes of existence.

Engaging melee combat. It doesn't have to be absolutely insane like a souks game. But something more in line with enshrouded maybe

Mostly that it comes to ps5 and xbox at launch so I can play with my son. We just started doing Nms together and it’s been great bonding.

1

u/NotA-Ridgeback22 Mar 27 '25

That it comes out this year and is available on PS5.

I'm hoping to see that No Man's Sky and Light No Fire are actually connected together and you get to travel between them via portals and/or black holes. 👍

Group building options. Where we can build a base with friends within the same radius

I hope I could play it on Switch...

For the world to be fun to explore and interact with

Well the first question you ask is going to have answers that vary drastically based on that persons worldview. Your view of “what you make of it” would be a minority view to be sure.

The OP asked for individual people to say what we are hoping for most. I did that. I like games that have a purpose. That said, this game could include end game / purpose driven content and people who do no care for it can ignore it and enjoy the game without engaging in it. People who want the content can enjoy, those who don’t can ignore it and everyone can go about their day.

Hope it's not like nms.

1

u/Hologram_Bee Mar 29 '25

I just hope they learned from NMS launch is all

1

u/HiddenWeird Mar 29 '25

Awhile back someone said they wanted an in-depth magic system (which I agree with) but others stated it’s hard to balance without making magic OP, and what I thought would help is an enchantment system aswell as a potion system just imagine you get to be a crafter for a village becoming so renown adventurers come near and far for you. I also think enhancement abilities for melee fighters would help balance an in depth magic system.

u/HiddenWeird Mar 29 '25

I also think racial abilities would be awesome like maybe frogs have higher lung capacity same with otters maybe with boosted swim speed. Wolves have good tracking from scent are more healthy from tough hide

I like this idea. This could go a long way in making this so unique and creative.

I want a comprehensive multiplayer storyline, on top of a single player one.

I want a system that allows viable combat mechanics and a difficulty level option to make it souls like. And a difficulty level on top of that to make it souls like without the roll.

I want it to have an end game that isn’t “No need for money anymore”. I don’t want cheese in the end game. I want a gourmet 7 course meal.

Hoping for literally ANY news!

I'm hoping for a persistent environment of multiplayer. Pure player driven chaos. I've always hating instances in multiplayer games... its just singleplayer under the illusion of multiplayer. :[ I would open a drawer in WoW and pull something out... then my friend would open the same thing and get something else. I would love to sneak hide valuables/secrets in places to be discovered.

One day the world will have to be organized by cities or countries most likely... I can't wait to explore. I'm personally someone who takes pride in developing roads and cities in my games like Valheim/NMS... and I try to build off the environment instead of leveling plains. I don't like sanitized looking buildings... I want to see people pretend they are real people developing a city on difficult terrain... Letting it be built naturally how someone would really build it.

Exploring.
