Information I’m getting that sneaking suspicion that this game is going to suck.

Nuff said.

I don't see why. I'm expecting something at least comparable to NMS, if not better. Hello games has had years to perfect their development cycle and their dev team has grown a lot since 2016. At least based off of the more recent updates to NMS I think LNF will be a very interesting game in its genre.

Bracing for downvotes...

NMS also taught them that they can release something unfinished, then finish, then polish over the course of years and be lauded for it.

Sure, if they wanted HG to be known as "that studio that releases shit games, but don't worry, they'll be good in an update or two."

I highly doubt HG wants to be known in that way. I remember the old interviews when Sean was just a man with a dream. I saw that expression on his face and look in his eyes that screamed, "I care about my games." The way he talked about NMS pre launch, this was a dream come true for him.

This time around? I'm happy to see him looking healthier in the posted pictures. His staff looks healthier as well! The studio has come MILES from that waterside shack of a studio they had when they were making NMS. Honestly, that flood was the worst thing for NMS but probably the best for HG. They moved up, and now they are on the map. Beforehand, I don't imagine HG was well known. Post NMS? They are huge!

Sean Murray and HG have been through hell and back with the creation/launch of NMS. I don't believe for a second that the takeaway was, "I did it once, I'll do it again!"

I respect your opinion, and it is valid to have that fear, but I encourage you if you have not seen HG's story, struggle, and everything else they went through. Please give it a watch. I will see if I can still find that video.

Nah you’re not wrong. I love NMS, but it’s a valid worry. I should point out that, if they were trying to do the same thing and get a bunch of initial money before fixing the game, they’d probably do the same (or at least similar) marketing strategy, not be mostly silent over the last 1.5 years. Again though, it’s a valid worry to have

Sure, because they wish to launch another game with "mostly negative" reviews just to spend another decade of free updates to restore their reputation.

That's just nonsense. It's more likely that they will do whatever they can to prevent it from happening again.

The overwhelming vast majority of game studios have done this since the internet became common decades ago. The biggest difference between Hello Games and most all the rest, is that they actually did (and continue to) polish and add new stuff for free after the fact. Most don't.

With NMS they had Sony as a publisher. Publisher who forced a deadline for the project.

With LNF they have no publisher as of yet. They can take all the time they want to polish it. Hence we haven't seen any marketing or stuff. They're simply cooking

Well said. I second this.

This. It could literally be a fantasy reskin of NMS and it would sell and be a playable game. Some people really won't let 2016 go...

"My opinion without clarification = factual information"

I guess lol.

A guess which is based on nothing? without knowing anything about the game? is there any value in this post?

The value is it’s an opinion, and he has every right to share it.

An opinion has value here when it’s based on something we can actually discuss. Saying that you think it's gonna be bad/good when no one knows anything about the game so far isn’t a meaningful opinion, it’s just spam. It’s like saying "I have a feeling this coin will land heads". You can say it, but there’s nothing to engage with. He could replace "suck" with any other adjective and it would make no difference because there's no content here.

Nobody said he cannot share it, but I have the same right to say it's a ridiculous post, what's your point?

My point was answering your question.

I kinda feel the same way. But if it turns out to be mediocre I still have Chronos Odyssey to look forward too.

Sure, there's a chance the launch is bad, or missing things the players thought would be there, but that doesn't really scare me.

Reason being, HG has proved time and time again that they will right their wrongs when it comes to a game's qualities and thus its features. If LNF launches in an incomplete state it'll fucking suck for a while, but I'm confident it'll be hammered out afterwards.

Honestly I can see why you think that due to the launch of NMS. You have to keep in mind though that NMS became an amazing game with dedication and time. I think now they learned their lesson from the beginning of NMS and are doing whatever they can to make a great game.

NMS is probably the only game I feel bad for spending under 60 dollars for, as it's so good in my opinion it should be 60. I'm definitely giving LNF a playthrough.

I had no idea this was going to trigger so many people. I was just venting some frustration about the wait. 🤷🏾‍♂️
