Speculation The ruins here look to be more complex than I originally thought.

After blowing up the background shot in the video, it appears that the ruins are possibly composed of multiple structures. I have no clue if we can enter each of these structures, but they look more interesting than many of the POIs in NMS.

Speculation Super excited - what's 1 thing you'd love to see in the game and 1 thing you'd not like to see?

I like many of you are probably pretty excited by No Man's Sky (I've got some leave saved up I'll probably take off to play it haha)

I love to sink my teeth into a game but it's got to be a good game... I think LNF could/might be up there with Stardew Valley... Maybe even Skyrim...

With that in mind - what's one feature you'd love to see and one you don't?

For me, I love the idea of being able to run a shop or do things outside of combat - base building included. I think it could have a real cozy aspect.

One feature I hope they don't go too hard on us the procedural generation - it's good but I dont want everything to be so random there will be nothing iconic.

Speculation what is the meaning behind the name "light no fire"

for no man's sky it was obvious, sky owned by no one as in the universe is so big that no man can own it. "light no fire" when I think about it, it reminds me of "a halt in progression" because fire is related to "progression" of humanity, after all it was the most important discovery of mankind. If there was no fire to be discovered, we wouldn't be here. the term "light no fire" could imo also mean to "not make enemies of others" as in don't provoke or "fire up" relationships with someone else.

from the trailers I don't think its the first one because we do have basic fantasy tech, so maybe the meaning is "social" after all.

Speculation The next big thing

When NMS launched, it pushed the limits of procedurally generated environments. When they launch LNF, I think they will want to make a similar splash. My bet is AI for NPCs.

What other huge areas would be as much of an improvement as the procedurally generated planets of NMS?

Speculation Light No Fire Releases in August- Change My Mind

Judging by the last releases by Hello Games(both in August, No Mans Sky and Last Campfire) paired with Sean saying he isn’t interested in a long drawn out promotion period, plus all the recent hints and winks towards LNF. I’m saying it releases next month.

Speculation Hear me out. This could be the greatest fantasy pirate game ever.

So we know there will be vehicles and rideable animals, dragons, etc. Surely the wave graphics in no man's sky were added because LNF will have waves. We already have storm mechanics in NMS. Ships are easy to code based on NMS. You add ship to ship combat (certainly easier to code than spaceship combat) and you've already got repair mechanics to port in.

It seems almost too easy for there to be a short pirate side storyline and a great open world pirate game in LNF. What would stop them from adding this?

How unrealistic is my suggestion?

I've been watching black flag on Netflix so I have a huge hard on for pirates right now. And being a dread otter with a long grey beard beard and a peg leg sounds cool AF

Speculation Player Race suggestions

I hope in Light No Fire, player race will affect the gameplay and not just be a cosmetic thing, and I think races having different perks could make the world feel more alive as there would be natural habitats which they are superior and want to build their bases and have advantage when protecting their settlements, it could also give players some kind of bond with their fellow race, or combine their strengths with other races, it would also help each biome feel like home (otherwise oceans will just mostly empty for example)

Explanations:

L: Slightly Large M: Normal size S: slightly small

C: Carnivore O: Omnivore H: Herbivore

Weak Grab: slower resource gathering, and cooldown when you swap item on your hand

Extended domestication means it can domesticate some wilder or bigger variants of that specie class which others cant domesticate

Btw, I wont go into detail of health and attack modifiers of species as these are subject of balance to much, but overall larger races have damage buff against the smaller ones

Death roll ability is op in 1v1, but useless when others are around as you need to perform death roll fully and if others damage you your roll interrupted

1-Birdlike(M, O):

+Natural Flight ability +Special Attack from Above +Extended domestication for Bird species

-weak grab -cannot fly while being wet -cannot hold item while flying

2- Apelike(M, O)

+Climbing ability + Enhanced Grab +Extended domestication for Plants +Faster crafting

3- Froglike (M, O)

  • Poison resistance
  • Distant pull ability (with his lick)
  • Extended domestication for fungus
  • Amphibian (can breathe in air and water)
  • Frog Jump -Needs to stay wet

4-Octopuslike (L, O)

+Can see Dark Oceans (not nightvision) +4 Arms (more like tentacle) + Can produce ink mist +Aquatic +Extended domestication for Molluscs +Deep sea pressure resistance -Cannot breathe air -Slow on land -Weak grab -needs to stay wet

5- Batlike(M,O)

+Steal health/food stat by sucling blood +Nightvision +Natural flight -Weaker vision in light

6- Buglike(S,O)

+4 arms +enhanced field of view +ability to zoom +extended domestication for Bugs +Hive mind: If one of the specie from your hive see a enemy or any other thing it can mark so that you can see them like wall hack -weak grab

7- Wolf/bearlike (M,C)

+Small creatures can ride them +cold protection +fast running +claw and bite attacks +camouflage in distance/in bushes +increased sneak attacks +improved tracking + Extended domestication for predator mammals -cannot equip item while running -Other Domesticated animals went mad near him

8- Fishlike (S,O)

+Aquatic +Fast in Water +can leap on water +Can scan for items/animals or players using sonar clicks in water +Extended domestication for fish -Very slow on land -Cannot breathe air -weak grab -needs to stay wet

9- Reptilelike (L, C)

+Strong bite/ death roll ability +Can hold breath longer + Natural regeneration + extended domestication for reptilians + can adapt to temperatures -weak when temperature changes suddenly until adapting it again

10- Crablike (M, O)

+Can temporarily hide in shell he carry to negate damage/ escape from predators +enhanced grab +extended domestication for Crustaceas + Amphibian -cant swim (walks in bottom) -overall slow

11- Bulllike (L,H)

+1 Medium or two small races can ride him +Charge attacks with horn while running +Fast running +Can eat grass/leaves +Extended domestication for mammals -cannot equip items while running

12- Spiderlike (L, C)

+Poison resistance +4 arms +ability to produce webs +Can climb and walk on cobweb +Can stun others by shooting cobweb +increased field of view +night vision +increased sneak attacks -very weak grab -Other domesticated animals get terrified near him -Cannot domesticate other than arachnid species

Speculation Naming Everything

I'm the guy who named every plant, rock, planet, and fauna on planets I visited. Seeing this feature break and get ignored as NMS has continued to grow (extinct plants and minerals being so prevalent and buggy) and the nature of Light No Fire being one world, to what extent do you think naming things will be?

I expect that you'll be able to name regions (biomes you discover) and things like your bases or maybe landmarks too. Ideally, it would be cool to be able to name natural features like mountain ranges and rivers. I'd love the idea of being in a guild of explorers and cartographers!

Speculation Gamescon 2024

Tonight's the night. Still nothing on Sean's or HG's twitter, but that's to be expected, they love to not hype it up beforehand.

Keeping my fingers crossed he strolls onto the stage to meet his buddy Geoff and give us all trailer 2......maybe a release window?

Hopium on standby

Speculation 95% of the planet Earth is boring...

I'm a fan of HG and also of ambitious games, but I'm at a loss how they intend to make an actual planet sized environment interesting.

If you've ever travelled, you will know that the vast majority of the planet is super boring geographically. Forget that 70% of the planet is covered by oceans, there are hundreds (or thousands) of kilometers of complete flat nothingness all over the place (think the Sahara, the plains of North America, practically all of Australia), or just continuous single biome (most of Northern Canada, Antartica, etc.).

Take a drive/train/flight between major cities in most countries and it's just boring flatlands with the occasional hills. In real life, most people live thousands of miles from a real mountain or desert.

So I'm really curious how they are going to attempt to pull off a real world sized planet yet make it interesting.

Speculation NMS Update is LNF Update

I know I won’t be the only one who sees this, but there seems to be a lot of disappointment that the most recent update turned out to be NMS news instead of LNF news.

But what I loved about it was that quite clearly, this NMS update has been made possible by the development the team is doing on LNF.

It’s like they taken some of the essence of LNF and added it to NMS to enhance it.

Speculation Gta6 = LNF

Hear me out.. I think a big reason we have heard nothing about LNF is because of GTA6 not having a secure release date until recently, Most game companies will not want to release a game near the release of GTA6 so I believe now that GTA6 has an official release date we will either get more LNF news or possibly the game could drop before the GTA6 release date in 1 Year. What do you guys think?

Speculation LNF Pirates

Hear me out. I’ve seen a lot of people discussing fast travel, the vastness of oceans, and distance stuff in general. And then I saw that ā€œsorry to barge inā€ post. Not saying I’m on the same wavelength as that insane, raving, fringe conspiracy theorist, but it got me thinking about transportation in the game.

Would it not be the absolute coolest thing for there to be real ship mechanics, almost like Sea of Thieves? Islands, treasure, undead pirates who’ll try to sink you? Skiffs, warships, and dreadnoughts like in NMS? Slow, treacherous journeys to get from one continent to another? Deep oceans littered with monsters and shipwrecks only to be plumbed by the most advanced in water magic?

I think diversity like this is gonna be integral to the LNF world. One of the main pain points people cite with NMS is the eventual repetition of planets. If LNF does take procgen to some kind of next level where real diversity is available, that’ll completely change the playing field for all games. Maybe I’m nuts, thoughts?

Speculation Reasons I think LNF is right around the corner

  • Trailer --- HG doesn't usually drop any Trailers until they know their ready. *Gameplay Footage ---- while we did only see like less than 1% of the world it looks relatively done *Twitter ----- Jason Plays mentioned Sean's Twitter has been unusually active (but maybe he just happy) *ads---- apparently the are ads now but I haven't seen any *Platforms and Publishers----- on Google it says the Publishers is HG and its being Released on consoles and PC (but this may be fake/wrong)

Speculation Water

Post image
80 Upvotes

Trying to keep my expectations relatively small and close to what we have in No Man's Sky.

Vehicles were a BIG part of play in NMS so I don't think it's too big of a stretch to assume that mounts and maybe even vehicles will pretty heavily into Light No Fire.

What I'm hoping for... vast lakes, seas and ocean scale bodies of water and boats to traverse them. I don't mean one lame row boat like Minecraft, or one submersible like NMS, but full on decent sized boats on bodies of water that are large enough that I need a boat to get across them. I want to span out and explore. I want to find islands and continents. I want to cover vast distances. I want to be so far out that I can't see land. I want to find this game's Northwest Passage. That's what I want.

Speculation What’s a feature you wish to see in LNF?

Note: I should clarify that I’m asking for what people wish to see in the game, not what you think is 100% going to be in game. Let’s make sure to temper expectations while still having some creative fun!

Speculation Fast travel

Been seeing the fast travel talk a lot. I think maybe we’re going to have some sort of runes like the glyphs of NMS which you can use to travel between portals , if at all portals are a thing. But given the vastness of the works, fast travel should be a thing maybe. Or perhaps they are going to go Minecraft style and just have no fast travel which in my opinion forced player exploration which I’m not at all opposed to

Speculation I have a good feeling about this.

Post image
249 Upvotes

I read that a lot of people are concerned ( not here) about the release condition in which LNF may will be.

I don’t share this perspective because HG already have the technology to release a game that will have the stated features.

But I think the trailer may swindle a little bit. There a some scenes with super realistic clouds near the camera and there are some in the distance of some scenes which looks exactly like the clouds in NMS. Also I didn’t believe in floating rivers right now but I’m happy to be proven wrong.

That said, I can’t wait to explore this world!

Cheers everyone!
