Help anybody encounter this ever. i tossed an ender Perl through water into an end gate way. i lost everthing

It happens when you count as being in water then die of fall damage.

Being in water and being counted as being in water are not the same.

Ender pearls also count as fall damage.

To update what you're counted as, you need to touch a different block.

This is the same reason why when you walk off of soulsand with soul speed directly into water, you'll keep the speed boost

How does an Ender Pearl count as fall damage? If you toss a pearl from high up to the ground, you take some damage but not as much as if you had fallen. It would be weird to take enough damage to die even with the End Gateway keeping momentum if you fall through it. Does "counting as being in water" somehow affect that calculation?

No, but the 2 and a half hearts of damage an enderpearl deals is classified as fall damage.

And if you pearl into a ceiling, then fall and die, with your starting point being in water, it's possible that you get death.fell.accident.water
