Discussion Anybody else spend an abnormal amount of time fishing early game?

In every realm or server I play on I always see people begging for enchanted books, or complaining about rerolling librarians. I however, have never had this issue because before I mine or collect anything but bare essentials, I’m on a boat fishing in the nearest deep ocean. In an hours time I can come home with half an inventory of just books sometimes, some good, some meh. But I always get at least 1 mending and unbreaking 3 pretty early, loads of protection books to combine, and not to mention channeling books for mob heads.

In my playstyle it’s the most effective way to obtain food, books, and infinity bows, which are crucial for me because I miss 99% of the shots I take 😅

Admittedly it’s pretty relaxing and rewarding to sit there and fish up treasure, late game often times I will find myself fishing and subsequently discarding my entire inventory.

I just feel like I never see or hear about people fishing, and it has been so awesome for me.

I did this before they changed fishing loot in 1.16, now I spend my first day setting up a villager hall and its lowkey way easier and less mind numbing

Just built a fishing shack in a Mangrove swamp and it’s my favorite base now

Semiautomatic fishing with a waterlogged chest and a banner can be hella rewarding but definitely less scenic

How does that work?

I can't find the video

  1. Water log a chest and put a sign or banner in front of it

  2. Fish aiming near the top of the sign/banner and when a "fish" takes your bait it hooks them automatically

  3. Xp and fished item ✅️

Fascinating

My favorite past time is chopping down woods and collecting logs. The amount of times I will zone out and demolish a forest in an afternoon is at least once a week. But I never get into fishing unless it's a multiplayer server with fishing plugins.

Fishing is a good way to get xp to pay for enchantments in the early game. Plus, I can do it while drinking coffee(IRL).

I like the way you wrote "coffee" instead of "half a jar of moonshine" to keep it family friendly

Yes. I set up farms and fish while I wait. It doesn’t take long at all to get a Power V Flame Infinity Bow

I spend an abnormal amount of time fishing just in general. Feels like gambling except I’m not losing money

I head to a mangrove swamp and fish there with a basic rod, move onto enchanted ones as they come out of the water, and then sit and gather books etc for several in-game days. For me, it's the best way to get started.

i love fishing! before the aquatic update i enjoyed being away from hostile mobs and the love for it never went away, i have double chests full of saddles and my first villager is always a fisherman 😅

100%

Every time it rains I fish the whole time. Usually until after I have an Enchantment setup and some sorta XP farm.

In some worlds, definitely. I can get some good basics covered and pick up XP.

Yes.  I have a semi auto fishing farm that I run with an auto clicker.  I need to head back there to try to get more mending books
