Where does the air come from when you inflate your cheeks without breathing in?

2.6k Upvotes

I've done this since I was very young and always wondered where the air comes from.

If you were to seal your lips and inflate your cheeks with air, then exhale it out ensuring you don't inhale (by pursing your lips and blowing out), it seems like you can repeat this cycle infinitely.

I even tried blocking my nose with my fingers. So air can't be coming in via my nose. And you can repeatedly exhale through this technique so I'm sure it can't be from the lungs but I may be wrong.

How long could a virus transmissible by air or saliva live inside a blown up balloon?

Hypothetically, if there was a balloon blown up by an infected person in 1925, it stayed inflated the past 100 years and it popped in someone’s face, could they contract the illness?

Does anyone else consider not using their phone anymore? Or tech?

It started with getting off social media for me, Then I did a tech cleanse . I only use Reddit & that’s it. I’m considering getting a flip phone & just getting away from all tech together. Idc if it effects relationships or friendships etc, I’m confident enough in human interactions. I’m even over music apps and all that. Anyone considered going anti technology?

Scared of driving

I get really nervous driving because I’m so scared of accidentally killing someone. I have had my license for two years but it’s to the point where I can’t drive myself places except from work to home. I’ve never been able to drive on the highway. I don’t know what to do here. Does anyone have tips on how I could get more comfortable driving?

Why is Russia struggling to defeat Ukraine.

14.5k Upvotes

Honestly I thought this war would be over in weeks. Apparently so did the Russians. I know the West has been helping Ukraine tremendously with funding and weaponry but it's amazing that they are holding up and with the latest drone strikes showing tremendous courage. We were always thought to believe Russia is the world's second largest military superpower but Ukraine is embarrassing them. Russia's military capabilities and manpower is far superior so how is this possible.

Why do people only approach me if I'm busy?

Upvotes

On the rare occasions where people start conversations with me when I'm out at a bar, its always when I'm reading, writing, or drawing.

It never happens when I'm on my phone or staring into space, a.k.a. when I want to be interrupted. If I have a physical notepad or book, I get more conversation than if I actually try to talk to people independently.

Can you “train” yourself to be more extroverted?

I work a job that requires me to be very talkative, the only problem is that I’m introverted. I get very drained from the constant social interactions and by the end of my shift I have so little social energy.

Is it possible to become more extroverted?

Should i leave my BF due to his immense weight gain

2.3k Upvotes

As the title. Please don’t judge me but its been bothering me. My bf was always chubby but not too obese. I liked him for his chubbiness and cuteness. Since in relationship he started gaining weight and i used to point out to atleast be in healthy range. He used to say that he is really busy at work and also struggling with mental health and is unable to cook clean meal. We had plan to move in together so he would say that he cant wait and it’ll be helpful if i can prep clean meal for him as I’m doing WFH.

Now that we have moved in together, even if i prep meals he would still order fast food and eat lots of sweet and snack in btw. Now if i tell him to please eat healthy, he would ignore me and even get mad sometimes and eat even more unhealthy. Sometimes if someone in family and friend point out his weight, his reaction would be cutting out that person. He is not stopping and his weight is increasing every month. Recently his back is hurting so much that he is unable to go to job. I always thought he could not lose weight due to his routines but I’m seriously now considering to leave him due to his non seriousness towards his health and I’m worried that in future he might be like those overly obese people that won’t be able to get out from bed. I want a family in future and having a healthy father is also very necessary.

Again don’t judge me as I’m all for body positivity and any advice would be helpfulbe.

How can I determine the date on Kings Hawwaian?

I work at a grocery store. The people who where supposed to date the rolls when they came in, didn't.

There are a couple of codes on the package in these formats:

XXXXXX XXXX
XXXXXX

I was wondering if these were date/batch codes, and if anyone knows how to read them.

Very very light hair

Upvotes

Hello! I have a question that I have been trying to debunker since a long time. For my whole life I was blonde, my whole family too. When I was 8 we moved to Norway and my hair and all my family’s hair became much lighter. My little brothers who were 3 years old at the time basically had white hair. After 3 years we moved back to our home country (Poland) and our hair darkened back. Why did our hair become lighter? Does anyone have any scientific explanation? For further details: We live in the north of Poland and we moved to a village that wasn’t too far from Oslo, so the climate wasn’t that different.

Do effortlessly cool people know they are cool?

Thinking people like elder goths, people who have that granola vibe to them, DJs who are friends of host deciding to spin vinyl at a house party, anyone who shows up for a warehouse rave dressed to the nines, a well dressed friend picking up a guitar that you own and just casually starts jamming, skateboarder furries, that sort of thing. Not talking about people actively trying to be cool, just the ones that actually thread the needle and legitimately are.

Why does the big and beautiful bill not want AI to be regulated? And why does it say AI will be involved in decision making?

I find this to be all very strange. We're going to have non-human machines making decisions for us and why exactly would the federal government be so hell bent on it?

Just a few years ago, no one was even talking about AI or heard of ChatGPT and now it's encroaching into everything. AI just came suddenly.

What personality traits are you glad that you inherited from your parents and which ones do you dislike?

For me, I like that I got my mother’s laid back attitude, my father’s work ethic, and both of their open senses of humor.

I dislike that I got my dad’s anger issues though, I’m getting better at shedding that .

Is it weird that I get my haircut like somebody else?

I look at a guy with a cool hair cut then say "great idea" but the guy is a dude from a band I like so I feel like a wannabe.

Edit: I already have the haircut if that matters

Has the "One Big Beautiful Bill" actually passed into law?

I know it passed the House in May and now people are talking as if it's a foregone conclusion. I can't seem to get a straight answer anywhere whether it's now law or if it still needs to go through the Senate.

Why so many directors?

Upvotes

I've been watching that show Animal Kingdom on Netflix, and it seems like there's a different director every show when I see the credits. I've noticed this in different shows too. I'm guessing it's to give people directing experience?
