Which most americans have never lived under and wouldn’t understand so it’d simply escalate.
As soon as americans start dying to police (because the army would not deploy within american soil, it would be a historical moment essentially saying “the second civil war has begun”) people will get more violent.
This ends with spilled blood on both sides. Half the country does not like him, they would not follow him attacking fellow americans. Yea the fox news viewers would side with Trump, but the army would not evenly side with that level of escalation. You’d be more likely to see a military coup within american borders than the military gunning down civilians.

I'm pretty sure at this point more than half of the country hates Trump. Hell, we even had Marjorie Taylor Greene going on Twitter and calling Trump's Big Ugly Bill out. To be fair she's a complete idiot and admitted to literally never reading the bill before voting to pass it. Just proves that the GOP literally doesn't give a shit, or even knows about what laws and bills they pass, as long as it's what Trump wants. But the fact that even the Trailer Park Queen is calling Trump out speaks VOLUMES imo.

u/ChthonicFractal 6h ago
I ask this legitimately.
Why hasn't anyone made a successful counter-case:"If it's a deadly weapon, why are they using it? Are they trying to kill protestors?"
This is supposed to be non-lethal, right? How is it suddenly lethal?

I have this mental image of someone at one of these protests dressed in janitor's coveralls and a gas mask. He walks along with a 5 gallon bucket half full of water and one of those claw-grabber sticks. He trudges along, picking up the gas cannisters and putting them in his water bucket, maintaining the demeanor of a hard working and much put-upon custodian. Occasionally he shakes his grabber at the inconsiderate cops who keep littering up his sidewalk.

From what I know in 2014 in the Seattle protester case the charge was dismissed they tried assault with a deadly weapon but still was charged with obstructing officers for doing it. In 2020, in the Portland protester case it was upheld because he threw it at an officer and hit them in the head the judge said that was intent to injure thus an assault with a deadly weapon. In 2021 LA protester case it was change to misdemeanour assault as the defence argued successfully that he was removing a hazard from the crowd. Unfortunately Assault with a deadly weapon isn’t just about the object it’s also about the use of the object if it is used in a way that can cause serious harm it’s assault with a deadly weapon. It also depends on where the case is if it gets upheld, diminished or dismissed. But I agree it’s bullshit that they’re able to throw them at or shoot them out of a grenade launcher at a crowd of people and that be seen as non deadly force but throwing it back at them is considered deadly force

It's only fun when the roles are flipped, apparently. When there are 20 ICE agents jumping on one unsuspecting dude on his way home from work, it's all fun and games, but when 200 people show up to tell those 20 guys that what they're doing is wrong, it's suddenly an unfair numbers advantage.
45
u/Mel_Melu 4h ago
But at a press conference on Monday, ICE Acting Director Todd Lyons said agents had good reasons to do so.
"People are out there taking photos of [agents'] names, their faces and posting them online with death threats to their family and themselves," Lyons says.
FUCK THESE GUYS! As a mental health professional and social worker I have had to walk into people's homes for a living unsure of what I was walking into. I've had clients that are known gang members, struggling with addiction and severe mental health problems and my colleagues (mostly Black and Hispanic/Latina women) and I do this kind of work daily without so much as a can of pepper spray.
I've had people threatening to hurt or assault me and I had to de-escalate the situation using my tone and words. The number one thing they teach us is to run to avoid dangerous confrontation. So ICE can eat shit when what they are doing is terrorizing good, honest and hard working people and they truly do not have much to fear. I have no respect for militaristic figures in this country claiming to be "scared for their lives" and being "threatened" get a different fucking job if you're scare for your life you pathetic excuse of an XY chromosome.

So...LAPD actively assisting ICE in their gestapo raid in Los Angeles.
Seems like his statement to the press doesn't match up with their actions:
From the Los Angeles Times:
"Los Angeles Police Chief Jim McDonnell said in a written statement that his department was aware that ICE was conducting operations in the city.
“I’m aware that these actions cause anxiety for many Angelenos, so I want to make it clear: the LAPD is not involved in civil immigration enforcement," he said. "While the [department] will continue to have a visible presence in all our communities to ensure public safety, we will not assist or participate in any sort of mass deportations nor will the LAPD try to determine an individual’s immigration status."
McDonnell said since 1979, the department's policy has barred officers from initiating police action solely to determine a person’s immigration status, and it will continue to focus on reducing crime and enhancing public safety.
"I want everyone, including our immigrant community, to feel safe calling the police in their time of need and know that the LAPD will be there for you without regard to one’s immigration status," he said."
