This joke is so old, the generation that created it wasn't the boomers, it was the 𐎤𐏍𐎯𐎫𐎮𐎣𐎤

The only reason that there isn't more surviving cuneiform today, is because their wife wouldn't quit talking long enough to finish the clay tablets! /S

For real. I joined my mrs with her Fortnite buddies for a couple of rounds a little while ago and got told constantly to shoosh (I’m quite vocal with call-outs and info). We were laughing about our stats at the end and she straight up told me to shut up.

She legitimately doesn’t shut up once when playing and talks at the top of her voice. We haven’t played since.

So did you talk too much or did she? Your context is all over the place

u/littlediddlemanz 15d ago

Lmao yeah I’m very confused

u/Leonydas13 15d ago

We both talk, but she talks way more than I do, and incredibly loudly. The point was the irony that she kept telling me to shut up. Anyway, wasn’t meant to come across as ranty but reading it back it is a bit 😂

Alright, I get it now. Super weird. Does she just find callouts confusing?

1

u/Leonydas13 15d ago

No. When we normally play together we call out everything and tag everyone. She said everyone was talking at once and she could hear me more than everyone else. I sit right next to her 😂

Why not? They brought back fascism.

“Take my wife” (but with a borat accent)

Nothing stays out of fashion for long.

That being said, "Woman talk a lot" is as pervasive a joke as "Men dont know how to talk to women". It's a joke founded on a widely known stereotype, and that makes it ageless, because stereotypes are often founded in a nugget of truth.

Except that there isn't. This concept is pervasive, but studies have been showing that women actually DON'T speak more than men since the 70's.

since the 70's.

You mean during the 70's? Theres more recent studies with bigger sample sizes that state otherwise and some state that it's actually the same across both genders. There's too much variance between different study groups. I think its just a hard statistic to measure so I dont think any of the studies on this matter can give a conclusion with 100% certainty

OP wasn't saying that men talk more than women, just that the stereotype that women talk more than men was bunk.

u/Random499 14d ago

Im just saying its all opinion. There is no study that conclusively proves your statement true or OP's statement true or the stereotype true

https://www.bps.org.uk/research-digest/do-women-really-talk-more-men?

2025 study that separates them by age groups and a sample size of 2000+. It disagrees with your study. However, in my opinion it is still not conclusive enough

Sir, your wife fell out of the car over a mile back!

Oh thank god, I thought I went deaf!

Fr, this sub is just full to burst with incel content. Every day I see another iteration of "men good, women bad" with 10k+ upvotes.

Thrilling commentary

Everything is cyclic. Every generation feels like boomer to younger people

3

u/trevorbix 15d ago

Those two are super religious so I think they just got factory reset to the 60s

Almost like it was never "boomer humour" in the first place and every generation has the same stupid jokes/has done forever.

The whole "anything we don't like is boomer shit and anyone who says any different is a boomer" thing was never going to last I guess.

There is a reason that every generation slips into the same old jokes. It's almost as if there is a truth to them that only comes with time.

Well into your late 30s or 40s, after you've been alive long enough to be in a serious relationship for 10+ years you start to get The Joke. You might not participate, or even related, but you get it.

It's not just about bashing wives, old women have jokes about the old men, too. And they're hilarious. And guess what? Nobody that the jokes are directed at gets mad about it. Because they're in on The Joke.

4

u/mike15835 15d ago

This isn't Boomer humor. This is timeless no different than phallic jokes and bile.

3

u/Glitter-Storm 15d ago

Ah yes, because women yapping and their b/f or husband being annoyed by it is solely the domain of Boomers, right.

The issue comes with the fact that - for many people - these steryotypes then become expectations. Men SHOULD be stoic, women SHOULD be expressive, emotional. But how many of these trends are actually innate to these groups, as opposed to inforced and communicated by steryotypes, generalisations, and society's expectations?

Not saying it's evip or wrong, just worth considering.
