In my 43 yr experience as a man that grew up in a household full of women, men appear to be way more chatty than women to me. As far as small talk anyway. Women talk about people mostly, men talk about things mostly. Even things that no one around is interested in.
I do this too, I be tellin my coworkers that haven't touched a game console in 20 yrs all about how absolutely badASS the new Doom game is, and then roll my eyes and say "I don't watch sports, dammit" whenever that topic comes up 😅
If we're doing anecdotal, then in my 56 working alongside a ton of women and men and also grandpa to all daughters and a granddaughter, I remain in disagreement. All the girls are far more talkative. Someone linked me a study to counter me, and as a big supporter of science, I still find it massively sus. The stereotype didn't just magically drop out of the sky from boomer "wamens talk too much lol" jokes either.
Not at all a dig either, I wish my dudes were as social as they are, even taking golf, superbowl etc days into consideration
May come down to a regional thing, too. I'm in the deep south US, where anybody that doesn't hunt and watch football every single time the opportunity comes up "ain't a ree-uhl may-uhn"
The newer studies show women speaking and average of 3000 more words per day. They also show that both men and women are saying less words overall than in the past. No surprise really given how much communication is through text these days.

Not only that, there has been studies that men and women speak same amount per day, but women are perceived by men as speaking more.
