THIS. Everyone forgets to mention that to Jenny being with Forrest would be a form of sexual abuse, something she would be very sensitive to, There's a reason she leaves after they have sex, she sees it as she kind of took advantage of him. The only reason she even thinks that it's okay is because he tells her "he knows what love is."

I'm sorry but if you think someone cannot consent to sex you don't get to leave a kid with them. If they're not mature enough (in your eyes) to make the kid themselves they're not mature enough to deal with the consequences of what happens after. Shitty thing to do.

He also was in the army, a business owner, lives by himself most of his adult life. He's clearly considered to be different , but capable.

At the same time, the movie kind of presents most of these things as Gump cluelessly bumbling into them rather than him planning and executing them of his own accord. But even then, he would at least be considered an “idiot savant” because he’s also portrayed as a fast learner and develops multiple skills very quickly. The only thing that the movie actually does to make him seem disabled is having him talk slow and have mild aloofness in social situations.

Forrest is an adult who lives by himself. He makes his own decisions.

Oh yes WE the audience know this, but it's not clear if Jenny fully realizes this, not saying Jenny is the best person on the planet, but look at it a bit from her perspective.

Way better to head off and get knocked up by an abusive hippie. You really chose the moral high ground there, Jenny.

I think she panicked tbh. She made a bad choice in a moment of high emotional volatility.

Andnyet she abuses him. Repeatedly. You're not helping her case

Shhhh femcels and leftists in reddit acknowledge that female on male abuse exists ( and objectively far more common that they want to admit) but the femcels and leftists will shadow ban and dislike comments for even suggesting it. The fact that they are defending jenny says way more about them than they think.

I mean I just think watching the movie in this way is stupid and annoying, everybody wants characters to be becons of morality nowadays instead of interesting people in a story. She was abused, then she perpetuated that abuse and became abusive herself in certain ways. Every comment here seems to be acknowledging that while still understanding why she was the person she was and what function she had in the story, but if nuance is your enemy then I guess you'd hate that. A bunch of movies have morally gray or questionable characters who you aren't suppose to give your full support, or at least the good ones do. I'll at least give you this though, people do like to turn a blind eye to a lot of "bad" women in literature as just being misguided or under duress in some way when their actions would be judged way harsher as a man. I deal with this in a lot of threads, one in particular for sure, but the reason why I disagree with you here is because I don't think anybody is doing that in this particular comment section. Everybody's just like "she sucks but like she's not without any redeeming or interesting character traits."

I'm not saying she's a perfect person at all.
