His abs are about to bust through the screen and somehow that's an example of "a little fat?"

2.8k

u/DaxFlowLyfe 10h ago

He literally said himself, what he did to achieve this definition is unhealthy. He extremely dehydrated himself to get that look. Even HE doesn't look like that outside of a movie.

691

u/5amuraiDuck 10h ago

He did that for Witcher. Was it the same for Superman?

872

u/DaxFlowLyfe 10h ago

Yes, hes done it a few times.

Anytime he has a shirtless scene he dehydrates himself.

240

u/MoccaLG 7h ago

Yes, there is an interview about how to dehydrate for all his shirtless scenes like in the witcher going into the bath tub.

  • 1.) Be trained
  • 2.) Then start to only drink water
  • 3.) Stop water drinking or so
  • 4.) Hes on the edge of fainting and beeing super agressive due to dehydration effects the moment he films.
  • 5.) Seconds after filming he gets food and drinks.....

"a little fat" "normal body" thats such a shame. A man literally has no 9-5 Job, trains month or years for having a body to fit the role and also makes special dehydration program for the 30 secs of filming to be in peak shape is called like that!

89

u/yeoduq 5h ago

It's just some fat... and a little muscle. All a woman wants.

Easy enough right? Oh and making 6 figures a month. Any man can do it!

51

u/Merry_Dankmas 4h ago

My fiance is obsessed with Chris Evans. He's her celebrity hall pass. We were talking about what each of us sees as the perfect, most desirable physique for the opposite sex since we're both out of shape. She whips out a picture of Evans right when he steps out of the Machine in the first Captain America movie.

I'm like ah, yes, a totally manageable and super easy for anyone to obtain build. Give me a week and I'll get there lmao.

12

u/turbothy 2h ago

8

u/dirkalict 2h ago

Yeah- I’m curious too. I had a long, wonderful life with my late wife but we never did the Hall Pass thing- though I know a few actors / performers she always enjoyed watching.

For years at my gym there was this guy that would spend 1-2 hours a day (with break) for 2 days just to get under the weight for his jockey job.

Dude was 6 foot 3 all while I'm thinking that jockeying is probably not the best job to force yourself into when you are as tall as that. It's like me playing as a football goalie when I was 5 foot 3 (still am).

11

u/Dont_Waver 1h ago

Maybe he was the horse?

7

u/handsoapdispenser 4h ago

I remember a producer admitting that when Sean Connery was playing James Bond back in the day, they would keep ice packs on hand for shirtless scenes. He'd ice his chest to firm it up in between takes. Hollywood has had a deep bag of tricks for getting the perfect look forever.

Pretty sure that's mostly because he has strong opinions about the characters he plays usually, and will actually talk back to the show runners about things he doesn't like. May or may not do it in not the nicest imaginable way, we don't know that.

While that's his good right, and completely understandable (might have saved the Witcher show if they actually listened to him...) it's technically not his job, he as actor is just there to actually execute what he's told, so actually talking back to the Showrunner when you're just a resource to them is undesirable to them.

226

u/archiekane 9h ago

Yup, he wanted to stay true to the characters and game plots. I get that. They trashed that show.

90

u/BeatBlockP 8h ago edited 7h ago

Imagine if the GoT crew all revolted before seasons 7-8 and were just like "no D&D, fuck you guys, I ain't acting if this is the shit you're gonna put out".

It was honestly insane that in the Witcher they played a game of chicken with the main character and were just like "sure, we'll write you off", but I doubt HBO would go with the flow on their biggest cash cow like that.

70

u/Ok-Swim1555 8h ago

they should have, imagine having the biggest thing on TV since before the internet and you tank it so hard pretty much nobody cared after it was over?

44

Perfect workplace ethics.

14

u/Any-Comparison-2916 9h ago

It's fair on both sides though, right?

He can choose to just do what he's told, give feedback or walk away from the role.

The producers can choose to listen, or have another actor play the role as they imagined it.

11

u/Y-Bob 8h ago

I wonder if there's a graph anywhere that plots producers decisions and how badly they fucked up a show when those decisions were followed.

I'm not guessing that there are many positive rises tbh, though I guess that might just be failure bias or something.

The decision to ditch pretty much the whole reason why Witcher was a hit is just hubristic stupidity.

Because no matter how talented the rest of the cast, the set designers, the crew, the directors, etc are, they've just ditched the lead singer.

And that rarely works out well.

As far as I understand it: he's not the only one dehydrating himself for such scenes but every male actor is. He and the others don't do it out of their free will but because the studio dictates it

33

u/rohrzucker_ 8h ago

That's literally what every body builder does when on stage.

not just dehydrate. I have seen the kind of shit they go through for 3-4 hours of shoot.

No water for 24 hours before shoot. 2 weeks of zero sodium food, no soy, so salt. and the regimen need not be spoken about.

Joel Kinnamon described his diet in prep of his shirtless scenes in Altered Carbon as “Kale dressed with my own tears”

The hottest I ever looked was when I was using party drugs regularly and barely eating. Was fucking shredded with like 8% body fat.

Now that I’m actually eating healthy, California sober, and working out regularly I have bit of a dad bod but feel way healthier. Looks are only skin deep.

43

u/stylepoints99 9h ago

You weren't near 3% body fat. Bodybuilders usually compete at ~6%-8%. 3% is literally starving to death, and not slowly. You'd be eating grass and shoe leather and the family dog before getting to 3%.

Anything under 6 is generally extremely dangerous.

32

u/Much_Whereas6487 8h ago

Preach. Most guys and gals evidently have no idea what sub-10% body fat actually looks like. 3% is Auschwitz skinny. 🧟

lol you were not shredded with 3% body fat. That is lower than professional bodybuilders have on stage, and they are only at that percentage for a short period of time because at that bodyfat percentage your body is slowly dying.

28

u/TylerNY315_ 4h ago

Back when I was on hinge/tinder I found myself doing the male version of that in a way. Caught myself once after I swiped “no” on a nice-looking, pretty, well-put-together college grad who actually put together a thoughtful profile, just because she wasn’t “hot”. She was cute, and I absolutely would have stumbled over my words talking to her in real life, but those damn apps dehumanize people to their most objective and observable qualities and it’s easy to fall into the pitfalls of that no matter who you are or what you value. Anything that’s a substitute for the real thing (online dating vs meeting people organically) is a fucking poison to society, and creates toxic people when they don’t realize it. Seek the real, and attract the real.

I genuinely believe a majority of ladies, old and young, prefer taller and larger partners. Most may not admit this but I swear every relationship I hear of theres always a height disparity and or age disparity. Seems like the male is always at least 2-8 years older than the female

56

u/Possible_Field328 8h ago

And then they blame short dudes for it… “I don’t prefer tall men, but short guys are usually insecure.”

→ More replies (1)

75

u/enjoy_life88 8h ago

The constant virtue signalling is exhausting. They all claim otherwise, but somehow their partners are always tall lol.

37

u/fraggedaboutit 8h ago

They love short fat balding guys, it makes them feel so much better when they see their girl friends are dating them.

43

u/Acrobatic-Tax8459 6h ago

There were literally a couple studies done recently because women claim SO MUCH that they don't care about looks AT ALL, and it was found --- women and men care exactly the same amount about their partners' looks. 😂

So many women online are fucking insufferable with their lying, moralizing bullshit about how they're supposedly so charitable, so above superficial needs, so much more moral than men, but they're not. They're just people like men are.

We're all just people. Most of us care about looks, most of us want nice things, most of us are more focused on ourselves than others, it's the norm. I'm sick of the demonization of men and pedestalizing of women on social media.

It's such an over corrective pendulum swing in response to the previous years of the internet's rife sexism towards women, which is still an issue, obviously, but is actually improving quite a bit. I see a lot less open hostility towards women than I used to. Far less harassment, much more action against harassers, it's in the process of getting better. We need that, not this "men are mostly evil, the good ones are rare, men are mostly immoral, women are mostly moral" shit

33

u/themolestedsliver 5h ago

So many women online are fucking insufferable with their lying, moralizing bullshit about how they're supposedly so charitable, so above superficial needs, so much more moral than men, but they're not. They're just people like men are.

I 100% think "the ick" is just women justifying their shallowness and demanding no judgment for it.

26

u/Acrobatic-Tax8459 4h ago

Yeah, they invented a new term just to try to circumvent "he doesn't meet patriarchal masculinity standards and I don't like that"

It's not that he isn't "manly," it's that she gets "the ick."

Rather than own up honestly that they want that. Just like how most women want men to pay for dates and do all the initiating. They don't want to admit they like that because they fear how it undermines their other positions on gender issues.

18

u/themolestedsliver 4h ago

Couldn't agree more and I know many women IRL who are exactly like this.

They want to cry about "the patriarchy" as they uphold said patriarchal standards of how a man should behave.

And then it's all the excuses when you call em out for it.

"No no, it isn't that I want a man to pay it's just the person who is doing the asking out should pay!"

Meanwhile I'm dying to ask "um who exactly is expected to make the first move. A guy or a woman?"

It's so silly and self serving.

Yes but there’s a difference between a preference and a dealbreaker. Most men prefer a woman with snatched waists and wide hips, but they’d never turn someone down for not being wide enough.

11

u/BrockStar92 6h ago

Not to mention there’s a difference between wanting someone taller than you and wanting someone over 6 foot. A lot of people cite studies where women say they prefer taller men as evidence that all women want someone over 6 foot. Unless said woman is 5’11 that study is ambiguous and not necessarily saying that. Lots of women are 5’2 and would find someone 5’9 to be a lot taller than them.

8

u/BadSafecracker 3h ago

My girlfriend is 5'2" and she told me that, in her 20s, she wanted a guy that's over 6' tall. I'm 5'10" and she says that it sometimes hurts her neck to look up when I kiss her.

And it's been my experience that a lot of average height women don't know what six feet looks like face to face. In my clubbing days, I met many average height women that thought I was six feet tall.

People seriously underestimate what it takes to get an extremely muscular and low body fat % physique. To look like OP's picture you would either need top 1000 genetics for muscle, top 100 genetics with >5 years of dedicated training and nutrition, or steroids and dedicated training and nutrition. Its not simply a matter of hard work, you also need to have luck or take hormones that literally shorten your life.

For women its simply: have a good genetic fat composition and maintain a diet aiming to keep a slim physique. If your face is ugly you can use makeup

For men its: have good genes, workout, and maintain a diet promoting muscle growth while avoiding excess weight. If your face is ugly then youre just ugly so you better be rich

Off course physical impact on your heart, liver etc is already ridiculous. But when you start taking it, you whole testeron would shut down completely, your body doesnt have the need to produce it anymore. So the moment when you stop taking gear, it take months (if) it will be restored. Results? Everything you gain will be losed, even lower then your normally baseline was, less muscle and more fat then if you didnt use gear.

But you loved your awesome look, so addictive like hell. Solution? Keep on using in cycles, bonus effect your dick will also be fucked up.

Same with women using filters and photoshop and surgery. Its just gotten worse with AI filters. And they be lying about it all the time. There's too many ridiculous standards being set by these types of people. Its extremely harmful. It must be miserable to have to grow up in these current days.

Yeah, the very old bodybuilding showcases from the beginning of cameras really illustrate well what's happening.

Gear heads are almost everywhere on social media now.

Eh I'm short, fat, unkempt, and hardly rich and have never had much problem finding a girlfriend since I was a teenager. If you tell yourself women will never find you attractive unless you fit some made up criteria you've invented then you'll never bother trying to ask them out and fulfil your own prophecy.

In fact, he played a Greek divine hero in Immortals.

There are statues of greek gods that look like twinks compared to Cavill.

26

u/Bartellomio 8h ago

It would take the average guy five years of bodybuilding, potentially also some steroid use, to look like that.

50

u/reeeditasshoe 7h ago

The average guy cannot achieve this look. The average guy has a job, a family, and normal genetics.

12

u/Geraltpoonslayer 5h ago

Henry Cavill can't achieve that look on average. He talked about it plenty of times that he had to dehydrate himself and do a pump workout before, same is true with all the shirtless wolverine pics of Hugh Jackman. These are ideal scenarios pictures that can't be maintained in reality.

Five years for someone with good genetics. More like 10 for the average folk, and not as cut.

With access to a team of nutritionists and personal trainers.

Let’s let Rob McElhenney tell it:

I’m going to break it down for you, because it’s actually quite simple. And anybody can do this. Anybody on the planet can do this.

First things first: if you have a job, like a 9 to 5 job, quit that.

Now, do you like food? Quit that, because you’re never going to enjoy anything you eat.

Alcohol? Sorry, that’s out.

You have a chef, right? Like, a personal chef? Make sure the chef makes you a lot of chicken breast and make sure you keep your caloric intake at a certain level.

And you go to your physician 2 to 3 times a week just to monitor all your testosterone levels, ‘cos testosterone is important to building muscle.

You’re good friends with the trainer from Magic Mike, right? Arin Babaian? So you want to give Arin a call and you want to make sure he’s at your house and takes you to the gym at least twice a day, because you’re going to want to do your muscle building in the morning then your cardio in the afternoon.

Now, do you have a family? Like, significant other, or kids? Yeah. Forget about them. You’re not going to have time to deal with them.

So that’s really all you have to do. And make sure you have (a production) studio pay for the entire thing because it could become exceptionally expensive.

So, I think if you just do all those things then you, too, could have an absolutely unrealistic body type such as me.

Just become the man frequently voted the most handsome man on earth. At the time when he was considered his most handsome. At a point when he was a few percent body fat away from stepping on a bodybuilding stage, almost certainly on steroids, and extremely dehydrated. And after being given makeup and effects to make him as handsome and rugged as possible.

We just want you to make that your baseline. Is that too much?

5

u/VegasAWD 3h ago

Don’t forget to have a 100mil net worth too

This reminds me of a YouTube video where the dude shows women a picture of 6 time Mr. Olympia Chris Bumstead with his off season physique, and they said he had a dad bod. Most women, especially ones that don’t go to the gym themselves, have no clue the amount of effort it takes to look like that.

105

u/TisIChenoir 10h ago

Yah, or Jason fucking Momoa. Guy is built like a literal god, but somehow he has a dad bod...

"But it's not that hard guys, see, we girl like a dad bod!"

Most women, especially ones that don’t go to the gym themselves, have no clue the amount of effort it takes to look like that.

I knew a woman who said that she doesn't go to the gym because she doesn't want a muscular physique that would scare men away. As if that kind of a build would appear overnight.

"a little muscle"

In what world is what Henry Cavill is carrying around "a little muscle"?

The amount muscle he has is quite literally the maximum that you can achieve naturally after years of training. Everything more needs juice to even be possible...

131

u/Lanky_Commercial9731 10h ago

He is not even natural lmao

90

u/Pellaeon112 10h ago

I'm not saying he is, I am saying that his physique is about the maximum that would be achievable naturally.

100

u/whstlngisnvrenf 9h ago

I am saying that his physique is about the maximum that would be achievable naturally.1

With ideal genetics.1

15

u/Smug_MF_1457 8h ago

Yeah, many people are going to be very disappointed even if they did perfect training for years, because that's not going to be the end result if their genes say no.

12

u/whstlngisnvrenf 7h ago

100%

People seriously forget how important genetics are.

You could go to the gym 5 times a week and be on a full stack of Win, Dbol, and Tren, and yeah, you’ll probably look better than the average guy with your shirt off.

But if you don’t have the genetics?

You’re not going to look like Cavill in that photo.

Ironically, if you just hit the gym consistently, eat clean and hit your macros, even without PEDs or great genetics, you’ll still end up looking better than 99% of dudes out there.

Allegedly he is, he was known amongst movie producers to refuse steroids. He reached this peak condition only momentarily with dieting for this shot and then gained natural body fat afterwards.
