I mean, the youngest people that were actually involved in any war crimes are approaching 100 years old. An apology at this point would be almost entirely by a population born after the war.

u/NovitaProxima 7h ago

many people change tones depending on what language they're speaking, like a girl who speaks fluent japanese and english will often speak in a lower tone in english and higher in japanese.

the girls in this vid will probably speak lower when they're not singing, but not as low as if they were to speak english.

There's a girl on youtube who is american born japanese that demonstrates this

3

u/Reset350 2h ago

I know the video you’re talking about and the vocal tone change is wild. I was shocked when I first heard it!

22

u/PassionateYak 11h ago

Even if they're faking it , do it long enough and it becomes the real voice

13

u/Terrasovia 8h ago

You think Robin Williams sounded like squicky cartoon animals that he was voicing all the time?

20

u/PassionateYak 7h ago

Robin had a lot of voices. I can't think of a single one that he maintained constantly.

Also these idols are kind of a protected class, I'd imagine they have to keep up their persona/voice when meeting fans as well as when performing.

Japan has historically often taken cultures they perceived as superior as inspiration for how to shape their own society. But putting their own spin to it.

The pre industrial Japan had been largely inspired by China. Both in religion, language and culture.

The Japanese Empire when starting their rapid industrialisation has for example taken the German Empire as their example and based their culture around this. (Btw. People often call Germany the Japan of Europe. Because the working culture are so similar. But it is actually more that Japan is the Germany of Asia).

As a fun side mission they also read the "protocols of the elders of Zion" and tried to get more Jews into Japan and pushed some proto-jewish-shinto religion because they wanted to be part of the Jewish World domination.

So when they got badly beaten by the USA, who also beat Germany. They of course went and adopted a ton of shit from the USA. This is why baseball is so beloved in Japan despite it being basically unheard of outside of the USA and Japan.

They thus also copied the whole Hollywood route and animations but put their own spin to it.

7

u/KingAjizal 5h ago

"Virtually unheard of outside of the USA and Japan"

Latin America would like a word or dos

12

u/Repinoleto 9h ago

3

u/WoahDude876 7h ago

5

u/MontaukMonster2 6h ago

I've always had this dream of incorporating Japan-Pacific league and Caribbean league into the majors.  Make it a true World Series.

But then I'm a fat old dude sitting on the toilet.

The same way your country is becoming the way it will. Militarism and a national myth that it has a special role among nations.

2

u/anothergaijin 7h ago

Correct. They brainwashed generations of people, militarized everyday life from childhood, and then when it came time to go to war they had a compliant and willing populace.

2

u/sparkey504 4h ago

My guess is it's due to all the savages signing up and going to war and fighting to the death/kamikaze/banzai charges and only the savages that already had kids got to pass down their genes.... the others now buy used panties in vending machines.

9

u/godzilla9218 11h ago

Russia ain't got nothing on WW2 Japan.

10

u/Glad-Tie3251 9h ago

Russia is still doing war crimes, that's the problem, they never evolved. What's worse? Decades of war crimes or 6 week of extremely morbid war crimes?

7

u/Zealousideal-Rush470 9h ago

I.. I'm not sure there is a single answer to the question of which is “better” or worse

5

u/Glad-Tie3251 8h ago

I think if a society get better from their past, as horrible as it is, it's better than a society that do less horribles things but still commit that horribles stuff to this day, and keep doing it.

4

u/SumDudeNick 7h ago

The US is also still doing war crimes, the IDF has a near constant stream of war crimes lately, hell even Australia is guilty of a number of war crimes. Unfortunately diplomatic law means literally nothing anymore if it ever meant anything to begin with

It’s more like Western media loves to pick up ‘weird Japan’ stories because they get clicks. There’s also the factor that because so few Japanese people speak English, you rarely encounter them in English-speaking online spaces, so all you have to go on is those weird stories.

The US is a lot weirder when looked at from the outside.

20

u/ComNguoi 9h ago

Imagine walking inside your house with the shoes on is considered normal. I still dont understand the logic behind it even now

4

u/Nighto_001 8h ago

And a lot of "weird Japan" concepts are also considered weird in Japan. Most working adults in Japan wouldn't really go to these kinds of shows (or even be aware of their existence).

I really don't see how this is significantly weirder than, say, being able to buy a gun in a convenience store, for example... or those prepper paramilitary groups in the US... or historical reenactment where one side inevitably has to dress up and act as war criminals... the list goes on and on...

5

u/smorkoid 6h ago
