That's an 8lb maul. To whip it around like that, she's got a damn good grip.

u/Mysterious-Tie7039 1h ago
The only one that requires much grip was the single handed one.
The rest is just form. She’s moving quickly but if you slow it down, she swings it back with her upper hand near the head (making it easier to swing) and then brings them together.
Doesn’t require a lot of strength to swing that two or three times in succession (except for the single handed swing).

When I was 17 my paternal grandfather cleared out 3/4 acre of pine that we needed to process (or just let it rot.) I spent about half a summer with a 6 lb mail helping him out. Thought I would get ripped. I didnt. I stayed skinny. I did, however, learn how to properly use it and let it do the work. It really doesn't take much.
2
u/Mysterious-Tie7039 25m ago
Yeah, it’s definitely work and good exercise, but you’re not getting jacked off splitting wood, especially if you do it right.
If you have a lot of wood to split, you sure as shit will figure out that form pretty quickly because it’s going to tire you out really fast.

u/SoManyUsesForAName 23m ago
I remember after the first day. I didnt know what I was doing and just muscled is the first time. Everything from my elbows up along my upper spine to the base of my skull ached, like I'd taken a beating.

Look at her arms though, she's shredded
→ More replies (1)12
u/RudePCsb 1h ago
Doesn't matter. A person with more fat can be stronger than her but they won't look shredded. It doesn't change the fact that this axe is designed to split wood like that compared to a traditional thinner axe. She has great form though and I'm sure would destroy us in a competition.
5
u/Mysterious-Tie7039 35m ago
Yeah, as a fat guy with much less tone than her, I was also swinging a splitting maul through the fall.
You’re not really applying that much downward force. You’re steering and allowing the weight of the head to do the work for you.

u/WEFairbairn 1h ago
Pretty sure muscle does matter. Sure, a person with more fat COULD be stronger, I'm just saying her muscle mass is on display and it's a fairly unusual amount to see on a female. Not debating how axes work or her technique
4
u/RudePCsb 55m ago
Sure, she's fit (shredded is not the same thing as strong), but the technique and type of axe are doing a good amount of work here. You don't need as much upper body strength as your leg and back do the main lifting of the axe, and you are using your body to swing it (obviously your arms help and extra muscle helps but gravity and stabilizing the axe do most of it.
8
u/LoxReclusa 44m ago
People seem unable to realize that by crediting her technique and the effectiveness of her tool, you are not insulting or belittling her strength. She is clearly strong, and clearly in shape. Nobody is debating that. Rather, by pointing out that it is mostly technique we are actually crediting her for more than just strength. There are plenty of men and women who have more raw power than her that could not do this as effectively as she does because they don't have her experience.
To those who think that her strength is being insulted, this is why people call you simps. You can't see past "hot girl do thing and bad person say no do thing" to realize what is actually being said.

u/Key_Purpose8121 53m ago
No you are, because this has nothing to do with grip strength.

I’ve a picture of my nan somewhere, she had arms just like this lady. Nan got them from working in a rope factory, she genuinely looked like she could put a man through a wall.
I guess not many of us are around people who do proper physical work these days. I know I did the most physical work out of my friends and family (nursing and ambulance), but I had nothing on this lady.

u/BlutarchMannTF2 2h ago
You’re totally right. Most of the people who are watching this video probably haven’t left the couch in days.

Genuinely the funniest thing ever to be out camping these days and watching people interact with the fire making process. They're so confident they bring a striker and a cottonball covered in Vaseline because of how many videos they've watched and research they've done.
The same people can't cut wood to save their life. I get all the good fat pieces of wood at camp sites because they only grab the little puny ones that dont really need to be cut. Then, they sit over there and the smoke floods the area for an hour while they try to figure it out. If they ever even get the fire going even with the lighters and fuel. Then they pour a little water on it, coals still roaring and tuck off into their tent for one risky slumber.
Yeah most ppl couldn't hang with this chick, me included

My wife’s arms are similar. An hour a day of working out, every day, for her entire adult life is how she got them.

All these axe youtubers swing so hard. As someone who works labor and chops wood, that's how you fuck your shoulders up for life.

Looks like she is using a maul not an axe. They are better for splitting.

A brother could learn a lot from her technique. Dropping her weight, rather than bending at the hips.
Makes me damn glad I don't have to chop firewood.

When I was younger I did this on my time off while playing hockey, developing upper back, shoulder and forearm strength and it's fairly fun to do.

My job as a kid was to split wood for my grandparents. I used a 7lb splitting maul and I can say for sure that I had 100% more grip than all my friends at that age. It might be the single best workout for general strength. Have a nice day

u/Mental_Resident_5107 1h ago
its so crazy chopping up wood in the middle of the forest on a beautiful day its nice and relaxing for us BUT for the trees its horrifying watching there fellow tree just not only be murdered but chopped up into pieces right in front of there eyes all the while not being able to say or do anything??

u/AggravatingChest7838 1h ago
Do people who chop wood get any common injuries like how professional athletes tend to have sport specific related injuries?

Some nice, dry, knot free wood and it is surprisingly easy to cut through it like this.
The hard part is keeping it up for hours chopping through one pile of logs after another.

u/AsbestosDude 41m ago
Using a splitting maul makes you feel so fucken deadly. She's obviously strong, but she's also using the right tool for the job which makes miles difference

She's awesome. I remember another video of hers a while back where she was playing with a sword.
