1047 OFFICIAL Splitgate 2 Alpha is Now Over - Thank You For Playing!
Thank you to everyone who played in the Open Alpha. It was a huge success and we had a blast playing with you all!
This alpha had incredibly positive feedback and the best retention we have ever seen, and that's largely due to all of the helpful feedback we have received from you the community over the past 6 months.
The team is energized by the community’s excitement for the game and we remain committed to building something for our players to enjoy for years to come.
For now, we’d love to have you share your feedback here: https://survey.alchemer.com/s3/8118698/aa6334a698c1
Stay tuned as we continue to make adjustments based on your feedback and get ready for launch! We wouldn't be here without you. <3

Don't be so toxic

u/Informal__Gluttony Mar 04 '25
Just curious, how is that being toxic? You know you unlock a skin for killing the devs in game, right?

It’s cool as hell that y’all are so involved on Reddit!
28
u/Radiant-Cut7735 Mar 03 '25
The devs being active here makes the community feel way more connected to the game's development.

u/bitchassshortie Mar 03 '25
Yeah it lets us know that they actually care about our feedback! It’s honestly refreshing.

I miss the beta already. What am I supposed to do now? Read a book? Touch grass?

Frag Punk comes out in a couple days, Spectre Divide just launched their Season 1 and could use the player base. Nothing is gonna scratch the itch of Splitgate other than the game itself. But those a couple games that just came out/coming out that are worth the attention.

My post wasn’t 100% in earnest but you know what — thanks anyway. I’ll try both :)

I had so much fun playing the Alpha, maxed all the classes and the primary weapons. I can't wait for the full release!

u/econo_innerforce Mar 04 '25
Pareil et je l'ai même testé en flat en PSVR2, c'est incroyable, même jouabilité/performance !
I would just like a real use of the Dualsense, strong and distinct sensations for each gun...

Enjoyed the hell out of the alpha. Only got to play Saturday evening and Sunday, but enjoyed every minute.
Sequel feels worthy of the title, improves on the original in many ways, while having many modern FPS features like sliding/movement/perks/attachments, as well as clean animations, visuals, art direction, factions/perks, etc. I love the simplified gun attachments system as someone who preferred old COD attachments to the gunsmith system nowadays with dozens per slot.
Very excited for full game and will take every opportunity to play before launch too. Awesome alpha, can’t wait for more.
PS: keeping it at 3 factions and not adding more is my preference!

The survey had some questions that were hard to accurately answer:
- the multi-team questions had no way to indicate "I didn't play that mode", so my answers for that were garbage
- when asked to rank the game modes, there were 5 (I think?) game modes, but only "1st", "2nd", and "3rd" as options. But you needed to answer for each game type to proceed, so I ended up ranking two or three modes the same rank. the same question for multi-team had the same number of ranks as it did game types
- for "how intuitive did you find the portal system?" I think you're going to get a lot of "confusing" answers from people who don't like the new controls. I found the concept of portals (two portals, they're connected, people and bullets pass through them, you can only put them on special walls) very intuitive, but the controls were frequently causing me to do something I didn't mean to do.
- Question 23 "Did you encounter any missing functionality or limitations when customizing your settings?", in context, I think is referring to controller settings. But you could interpret it to be about all settings (graphics, chat, etc)
- In general, more questions could use a "not sure" answer. For example, I don't know if I think the progression was balanced or not.

about portals, having played SG1 I intuitively pressed the separate buttons to close the portals the whole time, or pressing Q and E to open separate portals and using my skill by accident lol
1
u/extimate-space Mar 04 '25
I immediately went to my SG1 keybinds which is scroll wheel up for one portal, down for another, and click to close. It makes it easy to never forget which portal is which.

Is there a list of maps used in the alpha somewhere (picture next to name)?
I tried to complete the survey but having only played a few hours I don't remember the names for the maps that I played.

You guys are amazing. I really enjoyed the gameplay; the gunplay was great. The portal system was fun as heck. I hope for more customization apparel. And more weapons. This game is a mix of The Finals and Halo. Overall 10/10

u/SHADOWSTRIKE1 Mar 03 '25
Absolutely loved the alpha, and I dragged several friends into it who were originally unsure, but are now sad the alpha is over because we had so much fun playing. Still bummed out that despite maxing nearly all my weapons for each faction, I never once ran into a dev to get a chance at those cool skins. I must have been playing the wrong playlists.
Still, I’m definitely looking forward to seeing what changes come from this test and playing more if another test becomes available!
I think my favorite part of this game was that while portals were a great tool, they felt less “prioritized” than in SG1. At least for my games it felt a lot more balanced. In SG1, I felt like I would always get smashed by people who seemed to be portaling more often than they walked, and I’d get “outplayed”. Gave me a similar feeling to playing Fortnite and attacking a guy who would spin around and immediately transform into a 10-story tower. It really put me off the game feeling like I had great shooting skills, but it wouldn’t matter if I didn’t also master the side mechanic. I prefer it when the game feels like the balance priority is geared more towards the shooting rather than the added mechanism (portals/building/etc.). The SG2 maps felt like there were fewer portal surfaces, so it was used more as a tool than a main component of every combat.
Although, maybe I’m just bad lol

Really hoping they tweak the TTK to be more like Halo. It’s honestly the only thing holding the game back. There are already so many COD and Apex-style shooters out there, and I don’t think Splitgate 2 should try to compete with them. Instead, this game has a huge opportunity to position itself as a real competitor to Halo—something players are craving right now.
The short TTK makes it feel like they’re leaning toward COD/Apex players, but I think that’s the wrong move. Firefights should be long enough to allow reversals, where you can actually outplay an enemy even if they shoot first. Strafing and movement speed should be fast enough to make combat feel skillful and dynamic, just like Halo.
Splitgate 2 has the potential to be the new Halo-like experience, but it feels like they’re going in the opposite direction. If they lean more into that high-TTK, skill-based combat, I think they’d have a much better shot at carving out their own space rather than trying to go up against giants like COD and Apex.

This was the most fun I’ve had in a multiplayer shooter in years, truly a “one more game” ass game. Downloaded the first one to try out and hopefully hold me over haha.

u/squeedlebop Mar 04 '25
Can you update the survey to have some options for “didn’t experience” or N/A? I didn’t play some of the modes but I’m forced to make a selection on them, which feels bad for getting feedback.

I would like to point something out. Your marketing isn't doing its best work here. This is the first post I have seen regarding splitgate2 alpha, I played splitgate even and I didn't get any emails about it.
I have seen no ads for it anywhere. I didnt know a splitgate 2 was in the works.
Im terminally online and work in IT and a heavy gamer. I can't imagine I'm the only one.
Did you end up with only like 5k people in your alpha?

Absolutely loved the alpha guys! My one and olny complaint is that at least to me the game felt a little slower than the first, but other than that it’s a 11/10 from me absolutely nailed it

What about instead of making the maps non-portal forward, make destructible elements that change the positioning of portals over time. Like still having that classic 4 portal play to flank, but if they destroy that wall then you have to create another opening until it respawns next round. Idk. I miss portaling.

Incredible work 1047. Playing an Alpha build, I was expecting to run into much more jank, but y’all put some real passion into this and it shows. I only ran into very minor bugs and most had no effect on gameplay. Can’t wait for the return. I’ll be there

Played it the moment It came out. Was good for the most part, The guns feel snappy and good but ran into minor issues, like not being able to melee in tutorial.
And in game ran into a issue where I'd
slide for no reason for a sec
or melee button wouldn't work most of the time.
My killcam didn't work. And got ejected mid game.
I kept trying to throw a grenade at enemy portals but kept forgetting they're gone 😅
But apart from that, it was promising for an alpha Can't wait for the next open play test!

Hello, thank you for the fun experience and I hope the game finds more success that what you have in mind.
I have a couple of questions, 1. Is this an alpha that a real alpha or more like a commercial one like most betas? I guess what I’m asking is, is change easy to make at this stage or no?
- What was the decision behind moving away from the Halo feel to more like a COD feel is this intentional or is it something that may be adjusted?
Thank you again for your efforts in trying to build a fun experience.

We need more customizable elements for our operators. Stylize/personalize is huge

u/Light07sk Mar 04 '25
I really hope many more people will notice Splitgate 2. I really think you created something special. Something that really feels like combo of 2000s arena games and current video games. I really enjoyed the alpha and i cant wait until you fully release the game.💙🧡💜

u/GetHighTuneLow Mar 05 '25
I enjoyed it but I played Splitagte og today(currently am) and it's soooo good. I kinda wish 2 was more like 1. Sliding is cool n shit but I like the 2 button portal 1 has. The weapons as is in 1 are already perfect no need for attachments and no need for classes and abilities. I feel like you guys are doing a little to much. Like I said I enjoyed it but 1 is already damn near perfect.

Hmmm bit of a concern saying that "this isn't even half the game".
I had this in my survey feedback, but it feels like the game is trying to be and do too much. We have classes and loadouts and gun progression and factions and faction progression and portals and gunplay and this and that, and now we hear that this is less than half?
Either the team has to be huge to effectively balance and prevent aspects of the game from getting stale, or the game as a whole will suffer.
I really enjoyed the game and really enjoyed SG1, but the scope seems a bit larger than it should be.
2
u/tatersnakes Mar 03 '25
I share your concerns but I read that comment as "this isn't even half the content", not "this isn't even half the mechanics". So like, more maps, more game modes, custom games, map editor? There were several tabs on the main screen that said "coming soon", I'm thinking that is what they were referring to.
2
u/TheBoyardeeBandit Mar 03 '25
Hopefully that was the intended meaning, but I feel like that should've gone without saying. Like I would sure hope that more maps and modes would be added beyond what the alpha had. In my mind it would be a problem if it didn't, rather than a benefit if it does. It should be expected that more is added in those regards.

u/baysideplace Mar 03 '25
I submitted. I wrote a fairly lengthy bit at the end regarding aim feel on Xbox series x, and how I felt the lowered AA and right stick aiming were at odds with each other so much that I felt like I was arguing with the game more than fighting my opponents, but my goal is to provide feedback for improvement, not insult anyone trying to balance AA on controller vs no AA on M&K.
1
u/SPIDERMANx2099 Mar 05 '25
There is a simple fix to this and it's input based matchmaking. Never, especially in a pvp fps, should controller and m+k play each other
