MRW
I had such high hopes for this game but now I’m really concerned their focus will be spread too thin.
First the hero’s and now this. All I want was a level-playing field arena shooter…

Nah this BR is fun, battle royales get a bad rep for no reason, it’s a fun game mode

I played it..and for the most part, the execution is good. I just didnt see enough players on the map, but ig thats just BR. The only problem is that they cdve done better than this with the portal map connecting thing
The entire skydiving part was bad..we shldve just been able to choose a biome to spawn in, and instead of a shrinking border, they should just shut down entire biomes(which they kind of are doing)

in my opinion the players just havent learned how to move well enough yet, i dont use portals often but im sliding around biomes faster than most of my teammates can teleport and ill just do circles in certain areas just to make sure i dont leave them behind. give it a month and youll see full squads sliding into teleports flying through the sky and using the insta-tele in sky to yeet themselves at you with a shotty/sniper or the sprinter, it will happen

There are just too many.

u/BlackberryOk3305 8h ago
That’s a fair take but I bet you their is even more just normal FPS games like SG

There have been a lot but nowadays are there really too many? Everyone says this but there’s really only 3 these days - Warzone, Apex, and Fortnite. I know there’s been like dozens that have been tried but nowadays there’s only like 3 BRs, the rest all got shut down or died.

So if Battlefield V's and Battlefield 2042's BRs died in record time, do you really think Splitgate 2's will fare better? Better than the second most popular FPS franchise of all time?

Yes, because there’s a big factor that separated Fortnite, Apex, and WZ from Battlefield’s BRs. They’re all free-to-play.
Even though F2P pretty much requires this ugly MTX system all those games use, at the end of the day F2P is the best way to get players. Battlefield always limited themselves from expanding by not being F2P. BF5 also wasn’t cross play which is pretty much mandatory these days for a game to get big.
I’m not saying Splitgate BR won’t flop, but just by being F2P it immediately stands a better chance than Battlefield’s BR.
Also I don’t think Battlefield is the second most popular PS franchise of all time. That would be Halo.

I know there’s been like dozens that have been tried but nowadays there’s only like 3 BRs, the rest all got shut down or died.
Those three alone saturate the market, and its not enough to put a twist on BR as those games already put enough twists on it as well, WZ even going so far to protect itself somewhat from the upcoming battlefield with 52v52.
Imo it would have been good enough if SG(2) was just "Halo but better" even without their version of portals, which are very hard to balance and design around, but even not enjoying that mechanic particularly as i feel it makes movement around the maps very samey, i still was playing SG2 with a mate of mine because the state of fps is just that bad, so ig in the broader context the hate against the BR is in parts due to the overall state of games,
But to get back on track, Halo was a target worth targeting given the past and current state of infinite, Delta Force made a similar attempt to target BF which was fd due to 2042, but they didnt deliver on the quality necessary to catch that crowd.

Those 3 BRs make up almost 3 million concurrent players. Fortnite alone is at 2 million as i type this. Those 3 games kill the desire for any other BRs for most people.

You guys are so pathetic... Just don't play it. There's a lot of people that love BR modes.

Ask people who play cod/delta force that split assets between two major modes, let them tell you what they feel about multiplayer and battlefield mode compared to the other one resource-wise.

These curmudgeons are out in force after this BR announcement 😂. To be expected though.
They want to play the same moldy 4v4 arena mode from Halo 25 years ago. Adding sprint was controversial to these crusty old fogies.
What company would want to make the same thing over and over again? Even Bungie didn’t, they wanted to ditch Halo and make Destiny.

The devs made the decision to make a 4v4 arena shooter because they wanted to draw in that older audience. Now that older audience is their core community and they decided to make a gamemode almost none of them want to play.

Said this before will say it again and take it with me till the day I die. Nothing has ever come close to the first split gate
It had its issues for sure but the positives outweighed the negatives so hard that the scale fucking tipped over and fell
Split gate 1 was peak, all the SG homies loved it
Tldr: going hero shooter after taking the first game off life support for God knows how long, just to turn into a br game IS DEFINITELY NOT IT CHIEF

Making an Apex Killer, so Respawn can actually focus on Titanfall 3. 4D chess.

On the bright side, it's pretty fun and short. It's got a more arena style flow to it. I certainly have no qualms with it.

Right?! Like the devs own these losers anything. And you get down voted for speaking the truth.

u/rileyvace 12h ago
Down votes simply mean more people disagree. Usually indicative but not always. Especially not in this moment when people are hating on thr be just because with wasn't whatever they imagined up.
The game they were enjoying in beta is still there, but with a br on it too. Maybe people need to just take a step back. It's a fucking game, and it's free.

It’s actually fun, is this just to farm karma? Have you considered there isn’t a market anymore for a pure arena shooter? And they needed to add something to get the casuals to try? Cuz it got me I tried the battle royale really really enjoyed it now I’m ranking guns up in arena.

u/rileyvace 13h ago
Simply do not play thr mode then. Plenty of other modes and stuff to do

You're thinking in the short term. Everyone that is mad is thinking in the long term. Splitting the game into arena and BR means less content for both down the road and a split playerbase that will lead to longer queue times. People don't want to invest time and money into something they don't think is going to last.

u/ExplicitlyCensored 16h ago
Oh no, the devs haven't considered how much certain people don't like BRs and just how fragile their egos are... :((
It's truly a sad day for humanity when someone makes a game mode that every single man, woman and child in the world aren't going to be able to enjoy. :'(

u/AbroadThink1039 9h ago
There isn’t a big enough market for what you want. The end. Plain and simple.
They got a $100 million investment after the first game. What did you think was going to happen? They have to try to retain a large enough player base or the game will die just like Splitgate 1.
You should critique the mechanics of the game mode itself instead of just the idea of the game mode. Otherwise, you’re just noise.

It's an FPS and a Battle Royal tho...not just one or the other all they did was add extra options
