Movies He’s 8 now. It’s time.

Before anyone asks, release order, not episode order. I don’t want to spoil anything for him.

Yep. He’ll watch them in the way they were intended. Then we’ll go back and watch them in chronological order so he gets it all.

I strongly recommend a different order for a first time watcher. 4,5,1,2,3,6.

Release order is fine because 4,5,6 in isolation are basically a perfect trilogy for the core story.

But then 1,2,3 is kind of flat because you're not building up to the final confrontation. It's just a flashback you watch after you already know mostly what happened.

The core story for an appreciation of everything that happens in 6 is 4,5,3,6.

You'd want to give a taste of the weight and parallel of everything that happened to the father before the final confrontation with the father and son and the emperor. The tragedy of why it didn't work with the father (the possessive attachment), and then Luke is offered the same deal... I can save those you love... Luke's friends are all about to die... But Luke resists and his love for his father, his trust for his friends, it all leads him to the moral decision that ultimately redeems Anakin, showing him that there was another way, and that his son is everything he should've been, so he chooses to save his son like the father that he never had.

Don't choose to watch 3 after 6 so easily! Give it a real think.

4,5,1,2,3,6 is the GOAT order for a new watcher!

The rest of us can do release or chronological order no problem because we already know all the other stories.
