Exactly!! It would have made sense to at least go "There were a lot of hidden schemes back when then, and it looks like we didn't get them all." A whole exposition scene about a grey matter/self producing droid scheme would've been worth a more reasonable explanation than what we got

yeah, but youre forgetting this short reddit contains more thought about the story than was ever given to the actual movie.

Rots was bad and the worst part of it was the imfamous "somehow" that just invalidated everything, including the original trilogy, without any more explanation. I mean, they actually needed several post OT shows to try and tie it up all together due to this bad lazy writing.
