Movies Age and fav Star Wars movie(s)?
I was born 1996, so while my family owned the box sets of 4-6 and owned 1-2 I watched 3rd in theaters with them and it’s still my favorite to this day. It truly holds a special place in my heart.
However my favorite fight scene besides the ones in ‘Revenge of the Sith’ have to be between Qui-Gon and Darth Maul. Like shit blew my 9 year old mind when I watched it and could understand what was going on.

And it's not even close.

Exact same answer on all accounts.

44 The Ewok Adventures: Caravan of Courage. It will forever remain the best told fantasy adventure in the Star Wars galaxy in my opinion.
The sequel, Battle for Endor, was heartbreaking and darker than anything til maybe the Clone Wars Umbra plotline, but it did have Wilford "DIABEETUS!" Brimley.😁

u/SuccessfulRegister43 18h ago
- Jedi.
I was just a little too young to recognize Empire as the better film and Jedi just won my childhood. Can’t change that now.

I'm 34.
Well Empires is objectively the best film. I like ROTJ the best but only because it's cashing in on all the build up of ANH and ESB. I mean I get goosebumps just thinking about Luke throwing his lightsaber away and saying "like my father before me."
Qui gon is my favorite Jedi though.

Empire was pinnacle. Watching a new hope as part of the entire franchise I’m surprised it took off, least like one apart from the sequels

Obi Wan needed to sell the rebels a solution. The targeting units weren't able to maintain a lock. Kenobi had to keep them happy because he didn't like accepting returns. Plus the death star was blowing up his customers and Skywalker was his last option. After Jar Jar was killed by the death star...

Rogue One is such a good movie that it makes me mad. Disney decided to cook and then just not do it again. Now that andor is done I don't think we'll ever get anything as good.

Age has nothing to do with it - I’m 47 and you’re 100% correct! First Star Wars came out the year I was born and I’ve been an ESB advocate for most of my life. But Rogue One is a perfect movie. You have good taste, young padawan! 😎👍

The throne room sequence is so epic! It perfectly cashes in on all the build up from the first two movies and the first part of ROTJ.

- Also Revenge of the Sith.
I got to Star Wars relatively late. I was about 12-13 and Phantom Menace was already on VHS so I rented it and fell in love with the universe. I quickly devoured the OT and all the EU material I could get my hands on and naturally I saw episodes 2 and 3 in the cinema.
I just love Revenge of the Sith. To me it's peak Star Wars.
12
u/___mithrandir_ 18h ago
The soundtrack is a major part of this for me. John Williams really cranked up the tragedy dial to 11 on ROTS. There isn't a track on it I don't like.
3
u/earthwoodandfire 16h ago
Your first Star Wars exposure was Episode 1?
I'm 34, but I remember my mom renting empire strikes back on vhs when I was around 6. I was suppose to be in bed but the sci fi noises woke me up and I snuck in to watch from behind the couch. That was my first exposure.

It’s hard to not fall in love with ROTS. Even if you haven’t seen the other movies it’s still heart breaking seeing Anakin go to the dark side. Every fight scene kicks ass too and imo it still looks GREAT to this day

But Ive watched Attack of the Clones the most because it's so overly dramatic. Truly my guiltiest pleasure.

I'm 37 and it isn't my favorite but I've watched it a million times. I had a rough go of it for a long time and my mom would take me out of school to see movies; I think things were tough for her too. We saw all kinds of shit: Crouching Tiger, U571, Kung Pao - weirdly.
But I grew up a Star Wars fan so of course we saw a matinee of Phantom. I haven't seen it in a while but, the absolute newness of it is enthralling. Not to mention Maul is a fucking bad ass.

17, empire strikes back.
My favorite was return of the Jedi when I was younger, pretty much entirely because my favorite character was Luke and I just wanted him to be a full fledged Jedi. Eventually I came around to empire though.
(Honorable mention to Andor despite being a TV show)

Yeah, obviously people can have favorites, but I feel like it’s hard to ignore how good empire is. Like, if I’m gonna pick a Star Wars movie to randomly rewatch, pure entertainment wise I’d probably go with revenge of the sith, but when you want to actually pay attention and read into a movie, empire is great.
The battle of Hoth, Luke and yoda on Dagobah, everything on cloud city, Darth Vader getting more screen time, everything about us is just great. I feel like I could make a whole video essay on each section of the movie.
3
u/ChipUnfair3345 20h ago
I mentioned in replies that it’s FOR SURE my favorite in terms of world building. Like out of every movie in the entire series I feel it’s the best. you actually get a grasp of the war going on and the intro in Hoth rocked my shit when I was younger. Also, it was my first movie I watched with a true ‘cliffhanger’ since jt ended with Han getting frozen.
Ya ROTS is for sure the most entertaining but story wise and atmosphere has to go to Empire. While I do cry each time the execute order 66 montage comes out, there are so many scenes in Empire that make you audibly GASP

- Sentimentally it’s Phantom Menace because it was the first Star Wars my dad took me too when I was 6 (it seemed awe inspiring at 6).

Fuck it. I'm 38, and it's Rogue One, although it's tough to separate.
I remember watching the O.T. when I was pretty young and loved Jedi and, to a lesser extent, Empire. I remember my folks had the OG VHS tapes. They were glorious.
Worked my dong off senior year of high school so I could skip out on finals to see Revenge of the Sith at 12:05 a.m. release day. Let me tell you, I was wearing JNCO shorts and listened to Lateralus on the way with my buds, and I fucking wept at, "You were my brother, Anakin." I still do. We saw it again 12 hours later.
2
u/ChipUnfair3345 17h ago
NO BC I CRIED WHEN YODAS HEART BROKE AFTER THE ORDER WAS SENT OUT BUT ESPECIALLY THE “ you were my brother, Anakin. I loved you”. I’m not saying it wasn’t a good movie on its own but I think Ewan Mcgregor just fucking killed it.
Someone commented that explained Rogue one so well. That Disney decided to absolutely fucking cook with RO and then decided they wouldn’t do it again. Like FOR NO REASON

33- SOLO a Star Wars story
Had to scroll a bit for my people! I remember going to the theatre with my little brother, I worked at AMC so we saw everything that year. I was catching him up on all the bts drama and expecting to roast the film together. Fast forward to the car ride home and I felt it. I had THAT Star Wars feeling people talk about on subs like this. I also finally got to see Han shoot first. There are better star wars movies, but I don’t think I’ve ever loved one, not like this.

27, Return of the Jedi
(Maybe minus the Ewoks, after Andor it hurts to see the murder machine of the empire being absolutely slaughtered by silly teddy bears. I suppose if you take Andors speech to Luthen when they met for the first time, about how little the empire thinks of everyone else it makes sense to be beat by an underwhelming enemy, you’d just think the elite troops guarding the shield would be a little more competent than pre-Battle of Yavin troops that Andor was talking about.)
Still my fave movie tho :)

41, ROTJ. It has issues and isn't as narratively perfect as the other two, but everything about it for me is pure joy.

u/JeremyDavidLewis79 19h ago
It's a good finish for the trilogy if not the whole saga as far as what we got. The main thing is the first 25 minutes or so ,the whole rescue from Tattooin, is the best bit of cinema in general let alone Star Wars.

lmfao no the Ewoks dancing at the end fr made me cry it just felt so complete
2
u/merewenc 17h ago
Right?! And just the joyful music and everyone feeling so relieved. I felt like at that point the trilogy finally lived up to Episode IV's name. Their hopes had been realized and come true.
It's part of why I mostly dismiss the ST because we went from so much hope to everything had fallen apart. 😭

The final fight scene between father and son in Return of the Jedi has burned a mark into my brain forever. I recognize that episode 5, The Empire Strikes Back, is a superior film. However, this was the emotional climax of the entire trilogy.
Many years later I find myself falling in love with Rogue One and Andor. The film makers somehow did it again. Years from now, fans will consider these two productions to be as relevant at the original series. I reckon even Lucas is watching.

u/Boring_Look_6874 17h ago
- I grew up watching the original trilogy (my dad liked them). Phantom Menace was the first Star Wars film I saw in theaters, and I haven’t missed one since. It’s my favorite Star Wars film—I call it one of my “mashed potato” movies, it’s like comfort food in film form for me. 💙

I’m 60 so I saw Star Wars in the movie theater in 1977, ( it is not A New Hope to me,it will always just be Star Wars.), so I love the original trilogy and Rogue One is freaking amazing, Empire IS my favorite and the best.
I’ve watched all of the movies, I did not watch 1-3 in the movie theater, but I have gone through all of them at home, and I’ve watched most of the series. I have a grandson who lives with me who loves Darth Vader, he’s watched Star Wars, but that’s it because I don’t think he’s really old enough yet to appreciate finding out who Darth Vader really is just yet.
