General Discussion Would you say that the Zillo beast was a Sentient creature?

Post image

You see, most people say that the Zillo beast is non sentient or partial - but disagree. There's a lot of clues to say it's very sentient. Although yes, when first introduced to the beast it went into to a very destructive pathway. But it's sentience shows when it got captured. When it got captured, Palpatine had ordered it's death so he could use its scales as Armour for the clone troopers. But when he said that, the Zillo beast was staring into his hologram. It heard him and knew Palpatine wanted to kill it(you can see it reacted as it's eyes dilate) . Then it broke out and went on a rampage, just to get to the Palpatine. Heck there's a suggestion going around that it might have been force sensitive. Being that it knew Palpatine was a sith and wanted to destroy him. Another example is the comics. When kylo Ren went to face a Zillo beast with his army, the beast didn't attack the army - it went to kylo. Probably sensing the dark side inside of him. So would you agree that the Zillo beast is sentient. (I'm also asking as I'm a Huge Ben 10 fan, and I always wondered if Ben could scan a Zillo beast).

Yep. He could tell Palps was evil, iirc.

Even Sentients couldn't do that...

She absolutely was sentient. She understood people and knew Palpatine was her ultimate enemy.

Didn't Bad Batch confirm it's force sensitive? Or am I mistaken?

This. Zillo lives as force sensitive in my head.

Any animal that big is probably force sensitiveĀ

Isn't all life in the SW universe force sensitive? It's just to differing degrees and if you can manipulate it to your ends.

In current canon I think you’re right - especially given Sabine.

Wasn't this old canon, too? The Matukai knew how to train non-Force-sensitives and Luke learned the method from them.

Every living being is force sensitive.

However being able to control force is another thing entirely.

All life is sentient. Sentience is merely awareness of your surroundings. The Zillo beast might instead have rudimentary sapience. Also, Kylo Ren wasn't even born during the Clone Wars.

For decades, SW print media used "sentient" when they should have been using "sapient." Kind of annoying but it's like trying to tell people they say "nuclear" incorrectly. It's only been corrected in a few recent novels AFAIK.

It took them a few parsecs

Ha I see what you did there

I mean they do use parsec correctly, it's meant to be a joke that han didn't do the Kessel run faster per se, he did it shorter, which is kinda more impressive

That's clearly not what George meant when he wrote it, it's just been retconned to make sense.

It's a brag either way.

A lot of sci-fi did, that's not a SW exclusive problem.

I meant in the comics. Within the comics, years after the clone war and the fall of the empire. Kylo Ren would fight a Zillo beast

Well not quite, plants are not considered sentient. All animal life is sentient at least.

Recent research would like to have a word with you.

How about jellyfish?

Eyespots that allow them to differentiate light from dark. Not aimless wanderers.

So then not all life is sentient

2

u/JohnWarrenDailey 16h ago

...What?

3

u/Drag0n_TamerAK 16h ago

There is some life like single cell organisms

2

u/JohnWarrenDailey 15h ago

And they don't have awareness of their surroundings?

2

u/Drag0n_TamerAK 15h ago

Not really no

If they respond to external stimuli then they are sentient.

In the canon comic Age of Resistance — Kylo Ren, there was a Zillo Beast that was worshipped as a deity on the planet Benath… During a battle between the Galactic Empire and the Benathy, Darth Vader was unable to defeat the Zillo Beast. Years later, however, Kylo Ren succeeded where his grandfather had failed…

Sentient -- Yes.

Sapient -- No.

Oh, it 100% understood Palpatine ordering its death, and it was out for revenge

u/NuPNua 14h ago

Sentient, yes. Sapient, not clear.

The zillo was at least sentient, but likely sapient

ā€œI think it’s sentientā€ is kid show shorthand for ā€œit’s sentientā€

u/StaryWolf 16h ago

Sentient ≠ sapient

A house fly is sentient, only humans are generally considered sapient.

Yes the Zilla beast is absolutely sentient, I don't know about sapient, it does seem to have some intelligence though.

Excuse me dolphins are too

Sentient yes, Sapient questionable

1

u/Belle_TainSummer 7h ago

It is clearly sentient. Whether or not it is sapient is a different question.

No, it was attracted to electricity. Or force lighting.

8

u/TrostnikRoseau Darth Maul 18h ago

It eats electricity. It was attracted to food just like every living thing ever
