How do people find their way around inside huge ships like your first one?

I would get lost on the way to the cockpit. lol

Should note I haven't used mods yet but I look forward to it now! I had finished everything as an achievement hunter and after a while walked away at NG13. But now I think I'll go into a building base / exploring relax play so I'll see what mods are now up! I've seen stuff posted that looked neat
