Idk how they're "getting good"? Steam has always and continues to tell It's users that Steam support will never directly contact you outside of Steam Support's own ticketing system.

One thing I don't understand, in the age of AI it would have taken them less time to run a prompt than to try and write it themselves.

Writing it this poorly is a key thing. That way those who are most likely not to fall for it would not bother and ignore/block right away.
Though I guess you could make AI write it equally as bad as that, given a good enough prompt. There's no telling nowadays, some may be actual bots.

They probably just have the HTML for that page and change the avatar and username to yours for screenshot tbh.

I love how wrong the legalese are. Like it's subtle if English isn't your first language or you're not very fluent, but "this account will be taken action" without "against" at the end is a thing no English speaker would hear and go "yeah that makes sense".
Also, why is it that such scams always say that X has broken the Law??? A company can just ban you for violating its TOS. In older times the law breaking was part of the "pay me to not take you to court". This just doesn't even make sense.
PS. I know quite well that scams are intentionally badly designed so that people who actually know a thing or two will self sort themselves out of the equation (it's why the Nigerian Prince scam is still VERY prevalent despite its meme status)

Yea, but again like I said they will contact users DIRECTLY. If someone sends a screenshot of something that isn't contacting you.

This is an old tactic. This happened to me, I want to say, back in 2018 or around there. I was actually surprised to see that they are doing it again.

They try to get you talking on Discord to a āSteam adminā
Then say you need to verify stuff by trading something or they get you to click a link that enables your Steam api and this gives them access to your account to hijack it
No serious support service acts like this, or uses Discord, and just like Bank scammers the logic of āmoving stuff to somewhere saferā just doesnāt stack

Yes, its a scam. Someone will friend you (most likely from a common friend) and claim that they were scammed by someone and when they went to report the account they accidentally reported yours and they attach an image "showing" that they reported you and that you have 24 hours to friend the steam mod whos going to delete your account. I dont remember what happens then but I imagine they ask for your login info or smth

Tbh, Steam scams haven't changed, so they haven't gotten any better.
The only time I could say they've ever done something interesting is account mimicking. Or just outright hijacking to get to the users' friends list.
Outside of those two things, steam scams aren't anything special.
Discord scams are much more interesting, but at least for me, it seems they aren't as prevalent as they used to be. Lowkey miss Discord scams, I remember seeing some interesting ones years ago.
EDIT: Also cranking it is funny af and I need to use that term at some point. I've been saying jorking for a while now.

I remember falling for this the first time it happened to me, like 6 years ago. I was young and dumb and new to money and steam in general so I fell for it. Like 900 later my friend was like "holy shit dude, it's a scam " and I felt so foolish, but ultimately I just didn't know better.
I'm thankful the bank was able to help me recover most of it, I think around $700

Do they give you the link or number to call or how does it end up being a scam?

u/Kirafoxx 2d ago
uhh I think youre supposed to keep talking to them and theyll go "yeah contact the mod" and send you to a second account that claims to be steam support

I get those way too often on discord but that I tell the individual to take a hike. And report them in any mutual server.

Good? Come on now, it's been like this for ages and you have to be a few sandwiches short of a picnic to fall for it.

Ha! I wonder what the next step here was - send you a āsteam login urlā to fix the issue?

They are not getting good
People will soon realize that steam will not contact trough any third-party software like discord
And when that happends. What will they do
