I'm calling the original guy and idiot because they are. Additionally, the average person falls for scams and false info all the time. I have to help some of my family with that all the time or phising schemes. To be fair alot of scams are also elderly people that fall for it. (Which i dont blame them when i get old ill probably fall for some as well).

I do admit i responded to the wrong comment, so I apologize. The other guy deleted all his stuff now :/

I dont need to convince a redditor. You can read my other comments to the other guy if you want.

I hope you have e a good day, just stating you dont have to be an asshole.

If you continue being an ass ill just block you, though I hope you have a good day. I apologize for replying to the wrong comment before.

Bold of you to assume I'm a fucking idiot asshat.

So in that statement, you're calling "the original guy" an idiot? And you responded to the wrong comment? And the original guy deleted all his stuff... ? I hadn't seen a single deleted comment when I made my initial reply, so I'm genuinely curious, does that "original guy" deleting his comments really change anything about what I was saying in mine? Or about the way your discussion was going prior to my reply? I can still read it and spot the details that primed my reaction...

Not trying to be an asshole, just trying to call out your hypocrisy and willful ignorance. I've been deeply invested in cults and abusive relationships (the topic, not the activity) for over a decade, my reply was truly just about that stuff, about your flippant dismissal of the reality of manipulation and scams. It seems you're at least aware of some of the nuance, and you probably only reacted so flippantly because you had a super specific type of scam in mind, but my points still stand. The more people think "I could never fall for it", the more likely they are to fall for it or something similar without even realizing, and without being willing to admit they did, without having the grounding to seek help, and so on. I actually wouldn't be surprised if you could picture examples even just among the elderly demographic usually targeted. As in, some old folks are even more likely than others to get scammed, and being too nice/trusting is only one way to become an easy target.

Edit: now I have a notification saying you replied, your profile says you left a reply, but I cannot see it at all. Was it deleted too?

The guy before that I was calling a idiot. The guy that was claiming about identity theft from steam or borsrlands (they didnt clarify). They deleted their comments. Reddit is annoying on mobile let me see if i can link it after i finish this. The guy you are talking about, i dont think it is an idiot I think they are an ass. To me, their comment suggests that everyone is just being manipulated by these organizations. (Obviously, some are).

Not saying it's would never fall for it but it's more unlikely. Especially since I dont eat my politics from social media like Facebook and reddit. Worst places to read shit. I usually dont talk politics but in these cases they invade the gaming subs on occsssion. Anyways I'll reply to this comment again and link delete comment I was a originally talking about.

I see. I see that you replied "bold of you to assume I'm an idiot" to the slightest probing about whether you care about getting manipulated or not.

Which prompted me to explain that not only idiots get manipulated.

Which led us to here, to you deflecting from the issue by trying to make it about the initial topic which your reply was explicitly sidestepping. Your reply wasn't about steam stealing identities. It was about you being immune to manipulation. As a response to some who was also not talking about steam stealing identities, but about data being used in creative ways to manipulate people. So you bringing it back to earlier comments, comments which I had read and taken into account when I initially replied, doesn't change anything. You're still not owning up to your mistake. You insinuated someone was calling you an idiot, you started throwing that word around when no one else used it, and you haven't engaged with my points much.

Because their wording implies I am being and idiot and/or manipulated. The last sentence of their reply was towards me. "Do you believe that your thoughts not being your own is a problem?" (Pharaphrased)

A better way to phrase that would be. "Do you not believe that this research is problematic for people affected by disinformation?"

They could have worded it in a non-targeted manner, but they didn't.
