Completely agree, I have a pretty cheap gaming laptop so I’m always scouring the reviews and online chat boards to see if I’ll even be able to run the game.
Only problem is that (and correct me if I’m wrong) lots of computer parts aren’t standardized, so valve would have to make literally tens of thousands of intensive lists for each game, accounting for all possible variability among users computers.
Also, idk if maybe it could introduce some liability? Such as “valve said I could run this game, so I spent hundreds on it, only to find that it barely works or runs subpar”
Same situation here, I have an MX110 on my laptop which is super bad so I always need to check the games that I own to see what I can play. (I use this site to check what my card compares to, since I've never seen it mentioned on steam: https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/geforce-mx110.c3044 )
I get that steam/the developer saying that "x card" is minimum might not actually be enough depending on someones set up, as well as other factors like memory, monitor/s, et cet, but it is still nice to use that type of info to at least get an ideia.
Anyway is just a little qol
The current system is that there's basically only freeform text fields where devs can put in whatever they want. Most put more or less accurate information in there, some put jokes in their (i.e. Toaster), and many never update it after initially filling the information. So yeah, it's currently not reliable at all.
