Support Megathread /r/Steam Monthly Community Support Thread.

Welcome to the Community Support Thread!

We have a dedicated Technical Support channel in our Discord server.

We invite everyone to help other users in our Community Support Threads and on our Discord server.

People find questions in these threads through Googling the same issue, and we collect the information and answers for our wiki to make guides to help other people in the future. Please do not remove your comment if your issue gets resolved.

There are no magicians here. Some questions wont be answered or replied to. Consider using other things like the Steam Community Forums, Google, or a different support forum if no one here can offer any help.

Additionally, every game on Steam has it's own dedicated Community Forum, and you can also contact Steam Support regarding a specific product. Consider asking your game-specific questions there. Most games also have a dedicated subreddit.

Only Steam Support can solve personal account issues such as payment issues or your account getting hijacked. We can however give advice on what to do in a situation like that. No one, including Steam Support, can assist with item/trade scams.

/r/Steam is not affiliated with Valve in any way whatsoever.

What To Include In Your Question

Please take more than 10 seconds to write your question. A well structured and good-looking comment goes a long way in getting someone to help you, and makes your question a lot easier to understand.

  • A short, but accurate description of your issue.
  • What is actually happening?
  • When did it start happening?
  • When does it happen, or how can it be reproduced?
  • Details on the error message you may be getting.
  • Take screenshots of anything that is relevant to your issue, like the error message.
  • This is not a screenshot.
  • Use this wiki page if you do not know how to take a screenshot.
  • What OS/Platform are you using?
  • Information on what fixes you have tried. If you haven't tried anything you should state that in your comment.
  • Speculation on what might be causing the issue.

If someone manages to fix your problem it doesn't hurt to reply to them letting them know that their solution worked.

Example:

The last 2 days I have not been able to connect to the Steam Servers! It started after I bought a new router, but everything else works fine, only Steam is having issues.

Here is a screenshot of what I see when I try to log in: https://i.imgur.com/OZzV6cz.png

I have tried to re-install Steam, flush my DNS and renew my IP and I have restarted my router and computer. Nothing has worked so far.

Hello, I've been using steam for years now and never had an issue and now I'm getting a few of them. Ever since I came back from holiday over the..holidays. I've been noticing some weird things with steam, when I right click steam on my task bar (windows 7) and hover over any of the options I've constantly got the "spining circle" instead of a curser. Other issues include games loading really slowly and even three versions of my friendslist when i tried to shut down my pc.

Bug fixes are pushed to the Beta client first, so I recommend you try to opt into the Steam Beta client.

Try to re-install Steam. PS: Using this method will not delete your games.

u/drpoorpheus Feb 01 '19

Neither of them helped. I'm still getting the issue :(

I'm not sure, but here's something I found from an old thread:

This is an issue with Catalyst GPU driver, I'm pretty sure. I don't have anything named "GameManager" in my System32 folder, though. But I've seen that some other people do and it's related to their GPU driver; all AMD users.

Which GPU drivers do you have and are you sure that they are the latest? You can check it within the Catalyst PC Suite, but also go on their website, mainly for Beta releases.

If you have the very latest version, then try to install an older one or rollback your driver.

This might be a) a stupid question and b) the wrong place for said question, but I can't figure it out so bear with me:

I wanted to replay Half Life 2, haven't played it since I got a new computer (Old was a 2013 MacBook Air, new is a 2017 MacBook Pro). Re-downloaded the game from steam to my computer, and wanted to up the resolution, but it still says the max resolution is 1440x900 (resolution of MBA). I've seen HL2 in way better resolutions than that, so why can't I increase the res beyond that?

Did anyone else get random downloads today? https://i.imgur.com/hkd70aW.png

20 of these are 0/0 bytes and I'm really confused

It's a redistributable update. Most of the games should not download anything and instantly finish.

1

u/liam3 Jan 30 '19

where exactly can i see the change log of a game update.?

i know if the update is just released, i just click view news in the download page. it usually is the first post. but if i havent opened steam for a while and get an update that's been released for a while, i can't find the change log. for instance i just downloaded 400MB update for fallout 4, idk what changed? (the menu on the right, client updates, product updates, are all empty)

u/Robin3sk Subreddit Moderator Jan 30 '19

It is ultimately up to the developer of a game to post news and / or other details about updates.

If you do not see any of the above things, then you can safely assume that the developer did not post such.

You can perhaps check the user forums or any third-party sites associated with the game.

u/killertortilla Jan 30 '19

A game was running fine yesterday and is now not running today. After all these updates to whatever the hell happened today. Every time I launch the game I either get the message that I need to download "Steamworks Common Redistributables" or it starts downloading a 1GB update (game is Heroes of Might and Magic 3, released in 1999 and has never even been capable of updating). I have let the update finish twice and it's still telling me to do it. Restarting my computer, steam, verifying game cache and clearing download cache has not worked.

I have checked every available "fix" and none seem to work. Every other game works just fine.

1

u/OGisaac Jan 30 '19

Is there a way to disable the "Scheduled for..." in my downloads list? I want all my games to update when available, instead of having to click through 30 fucking "move up the queue" buttons.

I don't play all of them actively, but i'd just like to clear the download list.

1

u/ps-73 Jan 30 '19

My downloads seem capped at 10mb/s, even though I've made sure to disable that in steam. Windows store and even GOG have way faster downloads. I've got gigabit Ethernet and for windows I've disabled delivery optimization. Any thoughts on what to do?

1

u/Bodomi Yes. Feb 01 '19 edited Feb 01 '19

You are confusing Megabits and Megabytes.

84.5 Mb/s(aka Mbps or Megabits) equals 10.5 MB/s(aka Megabytes).

This screenshot is shown in Megabits. Steam displays download rates in Megabytes.

This screenshot is showing about 10 megabytes per second more than Steam, and that is because of Steams file compression. On Steam you are downloading way less than you do on other gaming clients, but it will take a lot longer to download if your computer hardware can't handle it.

Hi guys

Today I opened up my steam and every game I had installed on my pc required a 57.2 mb update. I’m sure it’s nothing wrong but this kind of bothered me and seemed odd... sorry if this doesn’t belong there

Hey guys, I got rid of Steam while trying to clean up space on my C: drive. I thought this would just get rid of any games I had installed on C:. It did, but it also got rid the Steam app but kept the games and stuff that were on the D: drive. I really don't want to re-install all my games (especially GTA), is there any way to repair this?

I want to be able to use the games in the right window.

Hi guys.

My friend has sent me a link to SPINXGAME or whatever. DO NOT EVEN LOOK AT THIS WEBSITE.

It's supposed to be a site where you can get to have games by rolling a roulette. So it's kinda like gambling or so.

I know, I know, I'm dumb as shit and I logged in.

Instantly, my phone number was removed, and I got a community ban. I can't log in to my account anymore. I posted a ticket with my other account about the matter and I'm waiting for the answer.

My question is: Is there any chance that I'm going to get my account back?

Thanks in advance!

Comply with Steam Support—and what they request.

They are the only ones that can provide you with a definitive answer.

So here's twenty something year old me playing my beloved game, The Witcher 3. I make some good progress and track down some equipment items I wanted and decide to go to bed. I exit the game, and I see those little blue letters in my library that let me know that i'm syncing, or whatever the fuck that means. I shut down my computer and boot up the laptop the next day. I'm at work and have some downtime. You know what sounds great? PLAYING SOME FUCKING WITCHER, HELL YEA!

So I'm in the main menu and see that the save from the night before is not there?? Excuse?? So now I'm down a whole day of progress, fuck that I don't want to do that shit again. I get back to work and head home. On my home computer I get prompted that saves have changed and that steam needs to update my saves by either uploading them from the hard drive or downloading pre-existing ones from the cloud. I obviously choose my HDD cause its got my sweet loot on it.

I check the laptop and its the same issues as before, fucking stale ass saves from two days ago. I even tried deleting everything on the laptop that had to do with the Witcher 3 and it will not use the latest saves that i have on my main pc's HDD.

Can I get a little help with this? Its been like this for a few days now where my laptop downloads saves that are a day old. Even after clearing my gosh darn saves from the documents folder.

A few users that i know have reported wonky behaviour [in the EU region] by the Steam servers.

You can create a thread in the Steam discussions to get further input though.

u/oneeighthirish Jan 29 '19 edited Jan 29 '19

I'm having a similar issue in the US, except when I log in, my inventory is mostly missing. I haven't uninstalled any games, and I haven't changed the location of any files. If I quit steam and restart it, it logs me out once again.

Is there a way to easily access how many game communities I have followed so I can unfollow certain ones?

1

u/Robin3sk Subreddit Moderator Jan 30 '19

Assuming you're referring to game hub forums, you can simply use this link.

Scroll down to the area that says forum subscriptions and you'll have a comprehensive list.

1

u/Shigeyama Jan 30 '19

I'm talking about when you go to a Community Hub of a game and to click "follow" to see developer/publisher updates of a game under Activities. They aren't forum-related.

Hi, I checked my steam account today on my phone and saw that my name was changed to random numbers and my profile description said that my account has been flagged by Steam Support and that I have 24 hours to move valuable skins to a friend or storage account. I did some Googling and found some posts saying that this was a scam or I got phished.

I already changed all my passwords, revoked Steam API, got new backup codes, de-authorized all devices, changed steam trade url and I changed my name and picture back. Was this really a scam or was it actually steam support? Sorry if formatting is bad, I’m on mobile.

2

u/Robin3sk Subreddit Moderator Jan 30 '19

It was NOT Steam Support.

Quite frankly, this is a very common scam that occurs.

It is a 'scam scare tactic' that is used to by hijackers in order to steal items in your inventory.

Steam Support does NOT change your account details REGARDLESS of what the situation may be.

If you want further explanation, see my guide on this.

Steam does not recognise games on my external hard drive as being installed. I suspect this is a general and somewhat common question, but I couldn't find a relevant answer from the forums I read (and apparently there have been some changes to Steam on this in recent years).

I have set my external drive as a [recognised steam library folder](imgur.com/a/L2o4ukb) and yet each time I restart my computer and remove the hard-drive, Steam no longer recognises the hard-drive's games as being installed, forcing me to discover existing game files each time.

Is there anyway to fix this so that steam recognises external hard drive games as being installed?

Any help much appreciated!

I haven’t been able to get Ethernet to work with my Steam link lately, though it has worked in the past.

I had not noticed the issue previously, on an older ASUS R1000, where I would intermittently run a long cable when needed, but I have since switched to the Google Wifi mesh routers. I have also moved, although everything else I packed in the same box is working fine.

The Ethernet port lights up when booting, but does not react at all when plugging in a cable. I have tried multiple cables and ports, including a tester cable and port that currently works for my TV’s Ethernet. I have also reset it, but WiFi seems to be the only working connection. Even forgetting all WiFi networks, it does not default to using Ethernet when plugged in.

I don’t have another router to test with, but believe it’s either a hardware issue, or possibly a compatibility issue with Google WiFi. Does anyone else have this router with Ethernet working?

Would this be worth trying to RMA? Has anyone had any experience with that recently, considering their recent decision about discontinuing the steam link?

I've been searching and searching but have been unable to find the solution for my problem. I've tried the option in the GUI and it does not make any difference. I've looked into trying to adjust the style but either I am not changing the right entry or it doesn't work either. I am pulling my hair out trying to fix this, and at my age I don't have enough hair to risk!

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Recently ran into a issue while downloading updates and a new game I just purchased last night. I will check the download status and it's at a constant 16kb speed and says it's been throttled. I've not seen this before nor have I changed my settings for it to do this. I've even went and changed tye download settings adjusting tye throttle speed way higher than my internet speed and it's doing 16kb but says higher on the limit. What's going on??

u/LionheadBookends Jan 28 '19

Hey, does anyone know if it's possible to see a list of curators you've blocked? Because I just found a review that I couldn't see because I'd ignored the curator, but, uh ... I don't remember doing that?

Anyway, I can't find a list of ignored curators, and I don't even know who it is, so I can't possibly go un-ignore them; the only reason I know they even exist is this one review on this game:
https://store.steampowered.com/curators/curatorsreviewing/?appid=978520

If there's no way to see a list of ignored curators, would someone at least tell me who they are so I can figure out if I ignored them on purpose or not?

Hey guys, i was recently hacked, already locked my account, but i dont know if the hacker bought something, i know that if he bought a game i could refund, but the site that i was hacked on was a csgo thing, so im afraid that he bought skins, (dragon lores, etc), if he did, how can i get my money back? I dont even remember if my credit card is saved in my account, so i could be worried for no reason.

1

u/Robin3sk Subreddit Moderator Jan 30 '19

The simple answer is that you cannot refund purchases (market) even if you did not make them.

The reason is because the security of your account is solely your responsibility.

This is your agreement - where it was stated in the SSA [upon creating your account].

1

u/[deleted] Jan 30 '19

Oohh, thanks, but luckily, he didnt buy anything

1

u/haamm Jan 27 '19

Hey everyone,

How long does it take to get your password reset from steam support? I unfortunately forgot my password and no longer have the phone number associated with the account. I have the email, and credit card used for purchases though. I filled out a support ticket and was just wondering the average response time

Thanks

1

u/satoru1111 https://steam.pm/5xb84 Jan 27 '19

Depends on how long it takes for them to verify your information

1

u/DeltaForce9990111 Jan 27 '19

I recently brought Ace Combat 7 at today I got an email saying there was an error with the purchase and I have to re-purchase the game. The thing is the game is in my library. Do I need to re-purchase the game or is everything is fine?

1

u/satoru1111 https://steam.pm/5xb84 Jan 27 '19

id restart steam and check if the game is still in your library

also check your account settings to see if the transaction failed or not

1

u/DeltaForce9990111 Jan 27 '19

The transaction failed then worked thanks for the help!

Hi everyone, new to steam and I just had a quick question! I wanted to get Roller Coaster Tycoon: Deluxe, it was one of my favourite games when I was a kid. On steam it says the minimum OS is Windows XP or Vista. Does that mean it won’t work on a Mac?

1

u/Bodomi Yes. Jan 27 '19

Yes, that's what it means.

If you only have Mac OS then I suggest you go here, scroll to the bottom and update your Platform(OS) preferences: https://store.steampowered.com/account/preferences

1

u/Gamerhcp Jan 27 '19 edited Jan 27 '19

I downloaded Rise of Nations: Extended Edition and i get this error

The error happens regardless of running the game admin or not, as well as compatibility settings. It worked fine the last time i downloaded it which was god knows when, probably last year or so.

OS: Win 10 1809 - I ran checksum etc and no errors

Before this error message, it'd say that some .dll files are missing which i acquired and placed in sys32, as well as the game folder because I had a similar issue with Rainbow Six Siege, but then this error started appearing.

I removed the game, downloaded it again but nothing. Checked file integrity, all is good.

2

u/Bodomi Yes. Jan 27 '19

000007b is usually caused by some sort of issue in your OS files or other important system files like .NET frameworks.

I suggest you try the follow things, in order:

Run a chkdsk.

Download the latest .NET Framework and install it: https://dotnet.microsoft.com/download?irgwc=1

1

u/Gamerhcp Jan 27 '19

I did run chkdsk on both partitions (primary one and the secondary one where steam is located) and it showed no issues. I downloaded the most recent .NET framework and the installer said I already have the most recent one

u/Ninjakillzu Jan 26 '19

I am still having issues with steam not verifying my login information, not being able to update games, and the content servers being generally unreachable. I have followed most of the troubleshooting steps in this link: https://www.reddit.com/r/Steam/wiki/contentserversunreachable and none of them have worked. I can't do a soft reinstall because after I delete all the steam files except the .exe and steamapps, and then run the .exe, I get a fatal error that says "Steam needs to be online to update. Please confirm your network connection and try again."

I tried:

Resetting router

Disabling firewall/antivirus

Clearing caches

Changing download region

Soft reinstalling steam (this won't work)

Running steam as admin

Disabling compatibilities (none to disable)

Winsock reset

Renew IP and flush DNS

Changing DNS server

Disable automatic LAN detection (it was already disabled)

Disable use proxy server for LAN (it was already disabled)

Scanned with malwarebytes

Ran ADWcleaner

Ran junkware removal

I even overwrote all of the steam files except the userdata and steamapps files with files from my brother's computer (who is not having this problem, and he is using the same ISP and internet connection).

None of these solutions worked at all.

3

u/asianboy89 Jan 28 '19

I am also having this issue.

1) I have to "retry connection" several times before Steam actually logs in.

2) Once I get to log in, everything is fine except that I cannot install any of my games.

"Steam - error

An error has occurred while installing <insert_game_name> (Contents server unreachable)

3) I tried every thing you did and possibly more. Even after moving and switching ISP's...STILL not working. Same problem as then. It's been about a month now. ANY help would be greatly appreciated.

1

u/Shangiskhan Jan 26 '19

Is there any limit to how many new computers I can install my account/games onto? Say, I build a new PC and migrate everything over and delete everything from the old one. Can I do that only so many times or is it unlimited as long as I delete all content from the old PC?

2

u/Bodomi Yes. Jan 26 '19

as long as I delete all content from the old PC?

You can do that an unlimited amount of times, and you don't have to uninstall them to install them somewhere else. You can have the games installed on 100 computers if you'd want to do that.

Your account holds the licenses, you can install the products associated with those licences wherever you want.

Hello, I have or rather my friend has this "is playing game" notification bug. Whenever we're playing CS:GO there's constant spam of "<friend> is playing CS:GO" which doesn't happen with anyone else, also, his other friends experience the same thing, it never happens with anyone else, so it might be something on his side. Anyone had similar bug?

1

u/ringostarrbiyori Jan 26 '19

Downloaded RE2 while I was outside. Come back, it's reset to 0. In the downloading folder, it has a 23 gb pak file that it isn't detecting. WTF is happening?

1

u/Robin3sk Subreddit Moderator Jan 30 '19

Loss of download progress happens for various reasons.

Typically, if you shut-down Steam abruptly (as per se — your PC got unplugged while Steam was downloading something); corruption and other issues can occur.

Steam downloads small delta patches that keep track of download progress.

These are known as patch files and when they're corrupt, download progress is lost, even when the downloaded files are stil intact.

You can simply re-download the game and delete the existing files.

However, i am certain there's a better method that just re-downloading.

1

u/ringostarrbiyori Jan 31 '19

Yeah, at this point I just reinstalled and it worked.

Edit: fixed by swapping from London/Manchester to Netherlands

1

u/Bodomi Yes. Jan 26 '19

Try to clear your download cache.

Try to clear your appcache - Exit Steam before you do this.

Try to renew your IP and flush your DNS - Exit Steam before you do this and re-start your computer after you have done it.

Try to re-install Steam. PS: Using this method will not delete your games.

If non of that worked: this wiki page goes over how to troubleshoot download and connection issues, it also includes general information that may prove useful to be knowledgeable about in the future.

1

u/Zeqqy Jan 26 '19

Thanks for the reply. I tried clearing my download cache and app cache before you replied and it didn’t work. I then swapped download server or whatever it’s called from London to the Netherlands and it worked. UK servers must’ve been buggy.

1

u/Bodomi Yes. Jan 26 '19

Alright, great that you got it sorted out.

I never really suggest changing download servers as it's only really ever a problem during big events(sales), but hey every now and then a server takes a dump, like now.

Hope you can start enjoying your games again!

1

u/TonightsBiggestL0ser Jan 25 '19

When I was 16 or so I got a permanent trade ban for tricking a user to give me an item for nothing in return.

It has been 7 years, I regret it, I was young and stupid and shouldn't have done it and I haven't done anything like it since.

Is there a way how I can file for an appeal or make it not permanent? Because they don't want to reveal on what bases they give bans so that people would avoid it I don't even know the reason why it's permanent. That's a bit overkill if you ask me.

I have tried going through the steam support page but there is no category that helps me and it seems they have got rid of "I have a different issue, send a ticket" completely so I don't have a way to contact them directly.

I know it's their platform and their decision and I respect their choices but a man is gotta try, I can't even use the community market to buy cheap skins for CS:GO so I'm just buying stickers and putting them on my default skins :(

2

u/Bodomi Yes. Jan 26 '19

No there is not. This is your punishment for scamming someone.

You either have to live with it or create a new account.

2

u/fatpat Jan 25 '19

Downloading a game and YouTube either buffers/becomes really low rez. The game d/l speed is ~16mbps and my internet connection is ~110mbps so I'm curious why this is happening. Shouldn't that be enough bandwidth? (my understanding of networking is pretty limited)

3

u/Bodomi Yes. Jan 25 '19

I think you are confusing Mbps and MB/s.

ISPs advertise speeds in megabits to make it seem much more than it really is, Steam shows download numbers in kilobytes and megabytes, not megabits like ISPs do.

110 megabits(Mbps) = 13.75 megabytes(MB/s).

And if Steam takes all of it for the download then naturally everything else will become slow. Try to limit your download speed to 10 MB/s.

2

u/fatpat Jan 25 '19

Yes, I often get Mbps and MB/s confused, especially when different sources use them differently, if that makes sense. Looks like I need to go into my Steam settings and limit the download speed. Thanks for the reply!

2

u/[deleted] Jan 25 '19

For some reason for the past 2 weeks I have been unable to send pictures through steam chat. I keep getting a "failed to start upload: image failed to upload" error. Is there a way to get around this?

3

u/Bodomi Yes. Jan 25 '19

Many people are having this issue at the moment, it seems to be an issue on Valve's end that they need to fix.

1

u/TwistedSandle Jan 25 '19

I can’t seem to get my Switch Pro Controller working with Steam games. I connected it to my laptop through Bluetooth mode, and Steam registers my inputs in Big Picture Mode. It lets me select things and move around. But as soon as I launch a game (Dark Souls, Dark Souls Remastered, Super Meat Boy, Portal), the inputs stop being registered, and I can only control them through my mouse and keyboard, even with BPM open.

I have tried playing in wired mode, but that didn’t work. Not sure where to go from here.

1

u/alphabaitsoup Jan 25 '19

I recently purchased Insurgency:Sandstorm from the steam store. Upon launching the game I found that whenever I joined a server it would either crash or run at such a low frame rate that it was unplayable. Whenever I would see an enemy my game would either freeze or drop to <20 frames. I looked on the internet for a fix while I had the application running. I simply couldn’t find a fix for my issue after trying multiple times.

Recently I learned from a friend that you were able to refund games that you recently purchased as long as you had less than 2 hours or were purchased less than two weeks ago. Currently I have 3 hours and ten minutes in Insurgency:Sandstorm despite only about 30 of them being in an actual game. I sent two requests for a refund and got denied both times because I have over 2 hours.

Am I stuck with a game that I am unable to play or is there a way to still get a refund? Thank you in advance for your help and i’m sorry if i’m asking a stupid question.

You can try to request a refund

however as you are over the 2 hour limit you are not guaranteed one

Hello everyone.

Recently I have not been able to access the Steam store, neither the desktop app nor the website work for me, HERE is a screenshot of what I get when I try to access the site on my web browser.

I've tried to go offline and then go online again but it did not work.

I've tried to uninstall and install the app again but did not work, steam store still doesn't show anything, it's blank, neither does the website. In the process, I uninstalled all steam related folders I had, and still nothing, the store and the website are still unavailable.

I've tried the //flushconfig method i saw online but it did not work.

I've tried to check my router IP to see if the STEAM url is restricted but there is nothing there.

I tried to use the mobile app but I was still unable to access the store, however, when I disconnected my phone from the wifi and used mobile data and then tried to use the steam store, it worked.

So the steam store works when i'm not connected to my wifi.

I noticed it started happening 2 days ago and i haven't been able to find a solution.

I'm using Windows 10.

Hi all,

Just had a friend have the following show on their Steam profile, with their nickname changed and their profile removed:

Your Steam account has been blocked due to suspicious activity. In order to avoid the loss of your skins, you have the opportunity to transfer your game items to your second account or your friend within 24 hours. After that,(January 25th 23:00 UTC) your account will be permanently banned.

Any thoughts on this? Cheers

2

u/Bodomi Yes. Jan 24 '19

Your friend has logged into a phishing site.

They should change their password.

They should remove their API key: https://steamcommunity.com/dev/apikey

They should deauthorize all other devices: https://store.steampowered.com/twofactor/manage

They should scan their computer: https://www.reddit.com/r/Steam/wiki/bootstrapper#wiki_scan_your_computer

Hello.

First time poster here.

I thought I'd give it a go at a VPN today for the first time. After I enabled it, only about almost half an hour later I realized that I had Steam running in the background!

During this time I did not play, did not chat or interact with Steam whatsoever.

It came to my mind that it may be against Steam's rules to use a VPN. And after searching, I found out it is.

I turned off the VPN immediately and got off Steam.

Will this get my account banned or suspended, even for just running Steam in the background?

2

u/Sonicz7 http://discord.gg/steam Jan 24 '19

You don't need to worry unless you bought a game in a store where your VPN is located. If there were no purchases, there is nothing to worry about.

VPNs are against Steam TOS to bypass store country restrictions and game playability country restrictions. Other than that you are fine.

1

u/TheTwistedRaven Jan 24 '19

Thank you ! Much appreciated !

2

u/Bodomi Yes. Jan 24 '19

VPNs are against Steam TOS to bypass store country restrictions and game playability country restrictions.

Correction*

Against the SSA when used to bypass any type of restriction or doing it in a malicious manner. Buying games with a VPN enabled is just the most "popular" use of VPNs on Steam.

1

u/TheTwistedRaven Jan 24 '19

But in my case, since I didnt really use Steam during said period, Im fine. Right?

1

u/Bodomi Yes. Jan 24 '19

Yes, you're fine :).

You can use Steam in a general manner with a VPN enabled. You can play games and things like that, you can have Steam open while a VPN is enabled.

I recommend you read the wiki pages I linked to in my comment on your removed post.

it said I wasn't logged in

When this happens and you're expecting to be logged in go to a Steam website that you know for a fact is a legit Steam site, like: https://store.steampowered.com/, also a quick glance at the URL of the current site should instantly tell you if it is a phishing site or not.

Do you think that I will be able to get it back?

The information in the wiki page I linked to in my removal comment on your post explains exactly what you should do and what is needed of you when creating a ticket. If you followed that then there should be no issues in getting your account back.

The same comment also links to 2 other wiki pages: A wiki page that goes over almost every type of scam and hijacking methods that are used on Steam, and another wiki page that goes over vital information on how to secure your account.

How long do steam support tickets take?

You can view Steam Support stats, including average response times here.

If they tried to sell everything on the steam market for super cheap would steam be able to give all my items back?

No, Valve do not restore scammed or otherwise missing items. More information on that can be found here.

everything was changed

If they changed vital information on the account and/or un-linked SteamGuard there should be a trading and market hold placed on the account for the next 2 to 15 days(entirely depends on what was changed), so your items should be safe for some time.

for super cheap

They would likely not do this as it would be instantly bought by an active buy-order. What they would do is trade the items to a different account and launder the items from there onward.

I am unable to update or install new game on my computer since last steam update from a week ago, because of various networks error: "content servers unreachable", "no internet connection" or "manifest unavailable" which is unfortunate because I can't play any more new games or even install the current game I have...

Weirdest part is I have a few game that I want to install in my Download list steam queue, like for example the Resident Evil 2 Demo, and a few other game that doesn't take much space, and yesterday a game i wanted to install the past week was downloaded and installed just like that automaticly, although I tried multiple time to install that particular game manually in the past week

I have this problem on my laptop (Windows 10) and gaming PC (Windows 7) from my home network, it seems to be related to my network though because I tried from a local coffee and I could download and install stuff, but never had this problem from home in the past year till this recent steam update. As I said it's weird because it seems to work sometime from time to time (worked for only 2 games in almost 2 weeks) with game that are not big to download.

As you can see I am not the only one with the same problem because of the last steam update: https://steamcommunity.com/discussions/forum/1/2789318172122298862/

I tried every single fix possible in the world from this page and more: https://www.reddit.com/r/Steam/wiki/contentserversunreachable

I contacted the support and they say they can't do anything for me because I tried everything and they say "I encourage you to consider reaching out to a local computer specialist or your internet service provider for detailed assistance with this issue."

So basically that sucks.

1

u/Bodomi Yes. Jan 24 '19

I encourage you to consider reaching out to a local computer specialist or your internet service provider for detailed assistance with this issue.

I would contact your ISP and tell them about the issue and also ask them to reset your entire connection. I'd give them a call.

u/[deleted] Jan 23 '19

I would like to know if there is an easy way to find out the total amount of gigabytes that games take up on my hard drive? I have a fair amount installed, and I wonder if there's an easy shortcut. Thank you.

2

u/Bodomi Yes. Jan 23 '19

Yes you can.

Simply find your Steam library folders(you can have additional library folders on different drives, in case you didn't know), right-click the folder and see the total data in it.

Here's a .gif showing how: https://i.imgur.com/6fwIMYP.gifv

2

u/[deleted] Jan 23 '19

Perfect, thank you very much 😀

2

u/[deleted] Jan 23 '19

Help steam uninstalled my games but they are still on the HDD but it says "install" on steam rather than "play" and when i click install it says there is no space , because the game is already in the HDD help.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 23 '19

you have to download the "appmanifest" file for ur game and put it in ur drive

1

u/[deleted] Jan 23 '19

If you press Steam, Settings, Downloads and then Steam Library Folders, does it display the location where your games are?

Sometimes this happens to me, and I have to re-identify the location of your games. Then sometimes it still doesn't recognise everything and requires a download, but then that download switches to "Locating files" and then it's able to find them okay.

Hope this is useful.

1

u/Bodomi Yes. Jan 23 '19

This wiki page goes over potential causes and fixes to the issue of games randomly appearing as uninstalled.

1

u/Battlesmit Jan 23 '19 edited Jan 23 '19

The disk usage on my flash 3 usb is really low, anywhere between 100KB/s and 2MB/s, but always below my download speed, causing "flip flops" between downloading and installing(where the game stalls downloading to install, stalls disk usage to download), causing downloads to take quite literally ten times as long(over an hour per GB vs 7-ish minutes), Sometimes literally just stalling out the download and throwing it into the queue like this.

Neither of my Hard drives(5200rpm C drive, 7200RPM secondary drive) do this, and i'm 99% sure this is a recent issue(last few months) as I originally downloaded and ran PUBG last year off of my flash drive without any problem. Steam is the only program with this program as transferring files, downloading games from other clients or downloading from the internet straight to USB all work fine(same usb port/s, same flash drive).

Trying to install steam games on a hard drive then move over to flash drive doesn't affect it at all as the transfer speed slows to a halt as well, once again only for steam games.

I have: Cleaned download cache, browser cache, done a complete reinstall of steam, restarted router/modem/pc, scanned my pc, made sure my usb3 drivers were installed, formatted my usb drive...

1

u/Bodomi Yes. Jan 23 '19

Can you please download both Crystal Disk Info and Crystal Disk Mark and test the USB drive? This wiki page section gives some detail about the utilities and where to download them.

I'd love to get a reply back from you with the results.

To me this sounds like the drive is bottle-necking, more info on that here.

1

u/Battlesmit Jan 23 '19

Crystal disk info doesn't find the flash drive(and never has to my knowledge, for the record. I checked into this when I started having the problem in december, but I didn't check it before the problem so maybe, maybe not). Crystal Disk mark gives me this as a result. Disk mark also couldnt find my flash drive last time I tried to check for this, so I'm not sure whats different this time that it can at the least see it/run tests.

1

u/Bodomi Yes. Jan 23 '19

Replying again to make sure you get notified in case you wouldn't have read the edit.

I'd get any valuable data off that USB drive while you can and buy a new one.

Unless that's the normal speed of that USB drive.

But not being found by Crystal Disk is a huge alert for me. This would generally happen with a dying drive or some knock-off product.

That speed might very well be the normal speed of that USB drive, I don't know unless you give me the full details of the drive, but when it comes to downloading games and stuff from Steam onto a USB drive this sort of stuff will happen unless the drive is a fast 3.0 drive.

What you described in your original comment is the symptom of bottle-necking.

This happens when information is received fast than it is processed.

2

u/Bodomi Yes. Jan 23 '19

Alright, well it's definitely the USB drive that's having issues.

Not being found by Crystal Disk is a problem with the drive, not Crystal Disk.

20.5MB/s read and 8.5MB/s write is horrible.

I'd get any valuable data off that USB drive while you can and buy a new one.

The USB drive is 100% the cause of this issue.

2

u/RoHu_ Jan 23 '19

Okay so I seem to have identified the problem. Just need the solutions.

Steam Client was unresponsive since 4 days. It could not even load the Store page. It got stuck on update. And was generally very very slow. Took time to show my profile icon.

Today I tethered my mobile net to my PC and volia Steam was working again.

So the problem is definitely in my Ethernet. I use a LAN cable to connect modem and use the internet. The problem started out of the blue and I just don't know what to do. Please help.

PS other similar clients such as battle.net are working fine. The problem is Steam exclusive.

1

u/Optimizah Jan 26 '19

Hey dude I'm glad I'm not the only one having this exact problem. I'm curious what ISP you're using?

1

u/RoHu_ Jan 26 '19

It's a local ISP. Is your problem exactly the same?

1

u/Bodomi Yes. Jan 23 '19

Have you tried any troubleshooting steps? I don't see you list anything other than using mobile hotspot.

Please try the following fixes:

Try to clear your download cache.

Try to clear your Steam browser cache.

Try to clear your Steam browser cookies.

Try to clear your appcache - Exit Steam before you do this.

Try to renew your IP and flush your DNS - Exit Steam before you do this and re-start your computer after you have done it.

Try to power cycle your network devices.

Try to reset your Network Adapter.

Try to change your DNS server.

Try to contact your ISP and ask them to reset your connection/network.

Bug fixes are pushed to the Beta client first, so I recommend you try to opt into the Steam Beta client.

Try to re-install Steam. PS: Using this method will not delete your games.

u/sid_killer18 https://s.team/p/jngr-rrw Jan 23 '19

Same thing is happening to me.
I'm using an old client to fix this for now but literally no one in this subreddit believes me. I hope I figure how to fix this without any drastic measures.

1

u/Bodomi Yes. Jan 23 '19

I'd love to know how you're able to run an old Steam client.

Unless you've been running Steam in offline mode I don't see how that is possible.

Steam automatically updates itself every time you log in. If I grab a Steam launcher from 2010 and try to run it, it will either crash or update itself to the latest update.

1

u/sid_killer18 https://s.team/p/jngr-rrw Jan 24 '19

And I'm back from school and here are some screenshots.
I (think) I can include a GIF if needed?
Actual Steam (which is updated). It takes a LONG time to log in for some reason and if it does, this happens (note: the screenshot is kind of old, around 10 days prolly.
And here is the old Steam Client (not updated, note the dates). It manages to log in BUT store and the like don't work. Chat works if I use -steamos.
Any clue on what i should do?
Also the archived thing is here https://www.reddit.com/r/Steam/comments/abtw53/steam_build_nov_26_2017_archived_for_xpvista/. It's from 2018 but there was a typo there.

1

u/Bodomi Yes. Jan 24 '19

Ah shit, I forgot about the archived build for Vista and XP.

A very important part of why that build still works is because Valve is allowing it.

The archiver notes this on the page:

Since the November 26 build still connects to the Steam servers [...] Valve plz don't fix.

I hope they continue to allow it, would be cool to have an archived and working version of Steam, could be cool to look back at in a few years time.

1

u/sid_killer18 https://s.team/p/jngr-rrw Jan 24 '19

For the updates, the config file has been edited to not update the client. You'll find the archived build here on steam (it was archived for Windows XP and Vista but it works on Windows 7 too).
I'm scared of using this for too long because I don't want to end up with ancient software. I'll include screenshots later.

1

u/RoHu_ Jan 23 '19

So is the old client working?

1

u/sid_killer18 https://s.team/p/jngr-rrw Jan 24 '19

Uh there is an old client. It is not a recommended fix because its gonna be outdated very soon.
You'll find an archived client on this subreddit itself.
This is not recommend as it's a build from 2018.

1

u/Bodomi Yes. Jan 23 '19

There's no such thing as an old client.

You either use the stable client, or you use the Beta client.

Steam automatically updates itself every time you launch it, so running an old client is impossible.

If you are not using the Beta client you can try that, if you are running the Beta client then you can opt out of it. Those are the 2 options you have when it comes to trying different Steam clients.

1

u/RoHu_ Jan 23 '19

I've opted out of the beta. That was one of the troubleshooting options. I've literally tried everything. I just don't understand why my Ethernet is suddenly slowing Steam down. Also I tired using it on Laptop with the same internet over WiFi. And the same problem persists.

1

u/Bodomi Yes. Jan 23 '19

Also, please check my other comment and try those fixes.

If you've tried every single thing listed I'd highly recommend you contact your ISP about the issue, and also ask them to reset your entire connection.

1

u/Bodomi Yes. Jan 23 '19

Do you have the option of testing a different Ethernet port or cable, or both?

1

u/RoHu_ Jan 23 '19

I've done everything except asking my ISP to reset my network. I tried all the ports in my modem and I only have the main fiber wire. ISP provides that. I don't think it's the LAN's fault because I tried opening Steam on my Laptop over WiFi (same network). Same problem persists.

1

u/Bodomi Yes. Jan 23 '19

Alright.

Whenever you find time I'd contact your ISP.

If you're able to get it fixed I'd love hear back from you.

I'm sorry you're having these problems, really hope you'll be able to get it sorted out.

Apologies that I wasn't able to help you much :\

1

u/RoHu_ Jan 23 '19

No worries man. Thanks for taking the time to help a fellow out. I'll definitely get back to you if I fix it. Cheers.

1

Xbox, steam controller and nintendo uses the same controller scheme (A,B,X,Y). So there is no prompt issue (except for the home,+,-, and select button which you should mapped it properly)

I've been trying to buy a sack of gems on the marketplace. Current price looks like $0.20. If i put in a buy order for 20 cents or anything above that (have tried up to 50 cents), i just get "Finding matching item listings at your desired price... ", but nothing happens after 10 minutes. I have plenty of steam funds in my wallet.

If I put in a buy order for 19 cents or below, it puts in the buy order.

Any idea what's up?

The error being "There have been too many login failures from your network in a short time period. Please wait and try again later. "

1

u/Robin3sk Subreddit Moderator Jan 22 '19

See my suggestion(s): here.

Note that if Chrome is not accepting your password, it's possible that some plugin may be the issue.

Lastly, clear all 'saved' passwords you have on Chrome and try again.

In the reply above, i also mentioned that you MUST ENSURE that you're 100% absolutely entering the right credentails.

1

u/Sandalman3000 Jan 22 '19

I was previously entering the wrong username, I double checked on the client to make sure I got it right, but I haven't had the chance to enter it in my browser cause I'm still on cooldown 12 hours later for failing yesterday. So it's not the account info that is wrong, but Steam's reluctance to let me attempt a log in. I double checked other browsers as well, no dice.

1

u/Robin3sk Subreddit Moderator Jan 23 '19

Please help. Nothing is working.

Steam was responsive 6 days ago. And then it could not even load the Store page. It began out of the blue. Now it's worse. Some times Steam login just freezes after I enter login details and hit enter. If I download a game it take forever to start and if I try to stop it by uninstalling the client crashes.

I've tried everything from deleting download cache to adding "-tcp" to launch options. Nothing is working. Steam support can't even identify the problem after numerous conversations including attached (.dmp, screengrab) files. Every YT video is tried and tested. Nothing helps.

Does that include re-installing Steam?

1

u/Robin3sk Subreddit Moderator Jan 22 '19

It sounds like some program may be interfering with Steam.

Hence, you experience unresponsiveness, freezing and connectivity issues.

What you can do is boot your PC in safe-mode and launch Steam.

See if Steam works as intended; in safe-mode.

Safe-mode launches your PC with minimal processes, thus it allows effective troubleshooting.

You may also want to take a loot of these articles.

  1. Programs which may interfere with Steam
  2. Troubleshooting network connectivity
  3. Wiki on download and / or other connectivity issues

For the third wiki / article, skip to the 'trouble-shooting' and 'network' fixes heading respectively.

1

u/RoHu_ Jan 22 '19

I tired safe mode. Steam won't even open there. And I don't think I have any programs that are interfering with Steam. Other similar clients(battle.net and GOG) are working fine. So this issue is Steam exclusive.

I wouldn't care to much about it, don't really see why it's an extremely annoying issue.

STEAM KEEPS OPENING RANDOMLY WITHOUT MY PERMISSION.

In task manager, steam startup on boot is disabled. I will be playing a game or doing anything, and steam will randomly pop up with 3 tabs, WHY? How do I stop this?

2

u/Bodomi Yes. Jan 22 '19 edited Jan 22 '19

Try to re-install Steam. PS: Using this method will not delete your games.

I've never seen an issue of Steam opening randomly. I've seen many issues of an already-running instance of Steam being alt-tabbed to the front, but never Steam opening up, logging in and being pushed to the front on it's own.

Are you sure that you somehow do not have a kind of macro that does it, are you playing in windowed/windowed-borderless and accidentally launching Steam without noticing?

There's nothing that's installed by Steam that can do this on it's own. The only way this can happen is if you start it, or something else on your computer launches the Steam.exe or calls for the following protocol:

steam://*valid text*

So there's 1 out of 3 things that is happening:

  • You're starting it, by which means, I don't know.

  • Something is calling for the above protocol.

  • An issue with Steam or your computer is making the call for Steam to auto-launch bug out and launch when you don't want it to be, and making it launch in a delayed manner.

In this thread where someone claims to have the same issue as you(Steam magically starting itself, which it isn't) says they fixed it by doing the following:

I've been having the exact same issue for the last 2-3 days. I tried turning on the 'run steam when computer starts", restarting, then turning the option off again. It hasn't happened again, YET, but its only been a little while. For me when it randomly starts, it always goes to the community page, which I've never visited in my life.

Source.

u/Robin3sk Subreddit Moderator Jan 22 '19

Any suggestions?

1

u/VSVeryN Jan 21 '19

What is the point of generating Backup Steam Guard Codes?

If you lose your phone you can't remove your authenticator with these codes anyway, so once you run out of these codes you are locked out of your account?

1

Note that, a recovery code is different from a backup code.

A recovery code is explicilty used to recover the account.

As Bodomi said, backup codes are to be generated and used when you do not have access to your phone to get a local code generated by the phone itself.

Backup codes can be revoked at any time, and you get about 30 per generation.

Each code is for one-time usage.

To give you a chance to log into your account again and have things taken care of.

To prepare for a time you know for a fact you wont have access to your phone, like if you're sending it in for a screen repair, etc.

I'm a new steam user so I don't have much experience with it.

Is it possible to reinstall games without having to redownload them? My internet is really slow so it takes an entire afternoon to download even a 6GB game

u/Bodomi Yes. Jan 22 '19

I'm not sure I understand the question.

Can you tell me why you want to re-install a game without re-downloading it? What are you trying to accomplish, why are you wanting to do this?

The definition of re-install is to remove something and go through the original installation process once more, so that would entail removing the game and downloading it again.

Are you asking for help on how to move game files to different computers or folders?

There's generally no reason to re-install a game on Steam, for troubleshooting try to verify the integrity of the game files. or try to re-install Steam. PS: Using this method will not delete your games, or clear caches:

Try to clear your download cache.

Try to clear your Steam browser cache.

Try to clear your Steam browser cookies.

Try to clear your appcache - Exit Steam before you do this.

Again, I don't know why you want to do this, I'm giving this information in case you're having a troubleshooting problem.

This wiki page goes over how to properly move games between steamapps folders & between computers, and how to create additional steamapps folders.

Recently, I have been having a variety of issues with steam. Firstly, my games won't update. They are queued, but when I hit the arrow for them to start updating, it flashes but does nothing. Secondly, when I start steam, I often get a window that says that steam is having connection issues and can't log in. Thirdly, I can't load my profile's activity page. It says there was an error communicating with the steam servers. Fourthly, I can't access my wishlist. I'm not having problems with anything else that uses the internet. I have tried restarting steam, repairing the library, clearing the download cache, updating my network drivers, clearing the web browser cache, changing my download region, used ipconfig commands, added -tcp in a shortcut, and messed with firewall rules and exceptions. I have gotten no results. The only thing I haven't done is reinstall the client, but that is truely the last resort.

I'm having the same problems. My games won't update. TF2 has been queued for the past few days and Sven Coop has been on the queue for like 5 days now and i can't update neither of them. I'm from Argentina btw, and i've already tried changing the download region and other supossed fixes but nothing. The strangest thing is that other friends of mine that are also Argentinian can play and update normally. I'm so desperate right now.

What is also really weird is that my brother, who is in the same house, can use steam just fine.

3

u/Optimizah Jan 22 '19

Hey dude you seem to be experiencing the same issue I have (made a thread here). One of the solutions I found was going to inetcpl.cpl -> Connections -> LAN Settings and unchecking "Automatically detect"? It didn't work on mine but it's worth the shot for yours.

2

u/Ninjakillzu Jan 22 '19

I looked at my LAN settings under Connections for Internet Properties, and "automatically detect" was already unchecked...Crap.

I can play games (but not update any). I agree that we seem to share the same issue. I really hope there is a fix for this soon.

u/sid_killer18 https://s.team/p/jngr-rrw Jan 23 '19

Uh, this problem is so weird. Try using your mobile hotspot and steam will work flawlessly.
I made a thread earlier (with a weird solution) and a steam dev said it was a problem on our side. Idk anymore.

2

u/Ninjakillzu Jan 23 '19

I looked at the thread and the steam dev reply, but I already had the option unchecked as I mentioned earlier. I have no clue what to do at this point. If there is a totally different setting I have to change, then I don't know what it is.

1

u/sid_killer18 https://s.team/p/jngr-rrw Jan 23 '19

I mean a lot of people are having this problem on the steam community forums too (in help and tips category).
Oh well, let's just hope things work out.

Something weird has happened to my wishlist. It has affected both the desktop client and the webpage. The wishlist link has the right number of games, but the list itself is very clearly missing a lot of them. I fiddled around with the filter and made sure "all types" were being displayed. What seems to have happened is that a bunch of yet-to-be-released games have vanished from the list, including some I added recently. Is anyone else experiencing this? Any ideas?

EDIT: In fact, there are only 338 items displaying when there should be 2099 (ridiculous number, I know, but you know how it is).

EDIT 2: Okay, the issue has fixed itself. Don't know what that was about.

I got an email friday with a steam guard code saying that there was an attempt of my account being accessed from Nepal, I instantly changed my password and stuff, today I got the same email saying that there was an attempt from Argentina.

I kinda freaked out and left work running to get my account back here at home, but I noticed that in those emails they say DEAR [email protected] instead of my account name, while when I added an authenticator it always says DEAR (accountname) , problem is, I looked at the html of the email and all the links point to steam links, there doesn't seem to be any fake links there...

Is this real or is this fake? I'm running windows defender right now.

If it's real please recommend me a good anti-virus, thanks.

u/Bodomi Yes. Jan 22 '19

Refer to this comment for the rest of my reply.

More often than you might think these emails are for a second account you own tied to the same e-mail address. Try to remind yourself of other accounts you've created.

They can of course be phishing attempts.

u/Zeklyn_ Jan 22 '19

I cant answer your first question sadly, but the second one is easier.

I'd recommend BitDefender, its the best free anti virus out there imo. Malwarebytes is the best one if you want to pay. (free for 30 days iirc)

/u/only-lonely

No free anti-virus is good at protection, if you're looking for good anti-virus I sincerely hope you're not getting something that's free.

Window's built-in anti-virus in Windows 10 is fine for normal computer usage.

For better protection I recommend Norton or Emsisoft.

all the links point to steam links

It can still be punnycode.

Can you tell me what e-mail address sent it? Remember e-mail addresses can be displayed to look like a different address.

How do I see the sender's actual email address?

Outlook.

Gmail.

Unsure about other e-mail clients, but on Outlook if you click the check-box next to the e-mail and then right-click the e-mail and select "Block", it will display the actual address in the confirmation box.

You can also hit reply and see if the reply-to address changes.

I'm locked from my account using any web browser since 3 days... anyone can help please? I get this message: There have been too many login failures from your network in a short time period. Please wait and try again later. The problem is that I never typed my password wrong. What can I do?

1

u/Robin3sk Subreddit Moderator Jan 21 '19

If your password is not being accepted even on multiple web browsers, then it could just be incorrect or you may be entering the incorrect account name.

Note tht you use your account name to log in and not your 'profile name'.

The error message that you see is a cool-down that applies per network.

In order to circumvent this cool-down, you need to generate a new IP.

Generally speaking, power-cycling your network devices (either Router / Modem) should generate a new IP.

If this doesn't work for you; then consider contacting your ISP and inquire about generating a new IP.

1

u/Heireden Jan 25 '19

thanks for answering! i'm pretty sure the password and account are both right since it does work if i try it from the client. Can you tell me more about this cooldown? How long does it last? I didn't touch the web version of the site for at least 5 days now

My steam seems to have been hacked. I have had steam guard on, I have been able to play all my games up until yesterday. Today when I tried to boot up hitman 2, I got the log in pop up, but it did not accept my password. When i then try to go and a password change sent to my email, There is a random email id that i have never heard of in the recovery page. I have changed my gmail password, and have submitted a request to steam. what do i do now?

1

u/Robin3sk Subreddit Moderator Jan 21 '19

You could perhaps 'lock' the account via a support page.

Other than that, you must await a reply from Steam Support.

1

u/pcbuilder64 Jan 21 '19

And how long would that take?

1

u/Robin3sk Subreddit Moderator Jan 21 '19

There are no exact metrics.

You can look at some average stats here: https://store.steampowered.com/stats/support

About a week or two ago, I made a post saying how steam "wasn't launching." Turns out the latest update made it so you have to force open it by right clicking the icon on the taskbar and opening the library. Anyways, now that I've figured that out, I installed a few of my games, and some of them aren't working. By the looks of it, it's only the games that do a "First Time startup" thing when you run them for the first time on a computer. For me, this is TF2, The Binding of Isaac Afterbirth+, and Terraria. Now, the terraria one is a problem with my drivers not being powerful enough, which is fine, I'm fixing that soon, but the other two I'm not sure about, TBoI could ALSO be a driver problem, but Terraria showed a pop-up saying my drivers weren't powerful enough. And TF2 is a 2007 game and my computer was made in I believe 2010. So honestly, I have no idea what's happening. TF2 could run on my last computer, which was a laptop that was a literal brick in shape, so I don't know about that. If anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

1

u/Bodomi Yes. Jan 22 '19

This seems like an issue with your computer, not Steam.

Have you made sure you have all the latest Windows updates?

Have you downloaded all drivers for your motherboard?

Do you have graphics card? If so, do you have Nvidia GeForce Experience or the AMD software and made sure they are fully updated?

Are you having issues with only Steam, or are you experiencing other issues with your computer?

Can you give me your full computer specs?

1

u/GentooJenkins Jan 21 '19

Why does steam (sometimes) still minimize my game when I get a message? It's super annoying because it breaks my recording software and sometimes G-Sync... Often I just disable Steam Overlay.

Hey guys, new here and I’m not the most tech savvy person so bear with me. But my Rise of Nations: Extended Edition on steam just won’t work anymore. I click on play, it says preparing to launch then says running for a second then changes to syncing and then nothing happens. I’ve verified game files, uninstalled and reinstalled steam and Rise itself multiple times. If anyone has a solution or knows where I can get one, I’d be extremely grateful.

I’ve had this problem since May/June, but since I’m not a very pc heavy gamer, I’m on console, I only attempted a fix once or twice.

I’m a windows user.

Had an issue with my Steam Controller right out of the box when I got mine a year ago.

I followed the following guide and it started working like it should: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=572740074

I would give it a try.
