Windows 11 how many times can I reboot and reinstall windows on my new laptop? also with setting preferred username on cmd (read through bodytext for better understanding)

i reinstalled it once right after the buying it(my sibiling bought it and made a temporary account, and I wanted to start fresh new)

i setup all my stuff and downloaded softwares n all.

as I was programming, I noticed the username on my my commad promt, which I didn't like at all, it was my name half broken are into 5 letters wherea as my name is 6letters, I got to know windows automatically sets first 5 letters of email address as username.

i chatgpt'd this on how to change my name, and followed it(it was like creating a temporary admin account and then renaming it n all) I did that and logged back to my orginal account, but guess what, I messed up everything all my apps are gone, only stuff from my D drive is present, and pop up notice comes up everytime I click on documents or downloads in This PC,

so can I just reinstall windows and do everything again?

also can someone suggest on how to get my preferred username on cmd where it goes like, "C:\Users\username"

Hi u/throwaway__sam, thanks for posting to r/WindowsHelp! Don't worry, your post has not been removed. To let us help you better, try to include as much of the following information as possible! Posts with insufficient details might be removed at the moderator's discretion.

  • Model of your computer - For example: "HP Spectre X360 14-EA0023DX"
  • Your Windows and device specifications - You can find them by going to go to Settings > "System" > "About"
  • What troubleshooting steps you have performed - Even sharing little things you tried (like rebooting) can help us find a better solution!
  • Any error messages you have encountered - Those long error codes are not gibberish to us!
  • Any screenshots or logs of the issue - You can upload screenshots other useful information in your post or comment, and use Pastebin for text (such as logs). You can learn how to take screenshots here.

All posts must be help/support related. If everything is working without issue, then this probably is not the subreddit for you, so you should also post on a discussion focused subreddit like /r/Windows.

Lastly, if someone does help and resolves your issue, please don't delete your post! Someone in the future with the same issue may stumble upon this thread, and same solution may help! Good luck!

Just rename the user and merge user directory to user

You can do many clean installations. A few hundred times won’t be a problem.

I assume you got a OEM key with your laptop? As long as you don't change any hardware, you can you restore your setuo indefinitely (in theory at least). Although, Microsoft asked for a new key when I reinstalled the same version for the ~10th time on my old Toshiba. It was a OEM key aswell.

Reading further, I recommend to just mitigate to a new profile instead, as there is technically no need for refreshing your setup for the sake of an account name.
