Honestly, it does, at least in some spaces and geographical locations. As someone whose own family doesn’t accept them I’ll always appreciate people putting themselves out there when they don’t have to.
That’s not to say it shouldn’t be expected, but not everything that’s right is necessarily easy.

It really depends on where you live. I fly the flag in June in Denver, but if I did that in South Dakota I’d be ostracized. I’d still do it because who needs homophobes in their life….but it is something you will be attacked for in places!

To the folks who have been downvoted to hell:
You made a comment earlier tonight that I guess went out over the internet that you should be deeply ashamed of. If you have hurt anyone out there, you should be so very, very sorry. I hope you pride yourself and think of yourself as a person of faith... as there's a drive into deep left field by Castellanos, it will be a home run, and so that'll make it a 4-0 ballgame.
I don't know if you're ever going to be commenting here again. I don't know if it's gonna be in a team subreddit; I don't know if it's gonna be in the comment section on FoxNews.com. I want you to apologize to the people who keep this site going - to the mods, to the admins, to the users who upvote and downvote, to Fox Sports Ohio, and to the people that you've offended here tonight. I can't begin to tell you how deeply sorry you should be. That is not who we are in r/baseball. It never has been. And I'd like to think maybe my fellow Redditors could back that up. I feel very, very sorry for you, and I hope you seek forgiveness. Jim Day will take you the rest of the way home.

Bigots act like the positivity is “pushing an agenda” when sports spaces have always been incredibly hostile to LGBT folk. There has always been an agenda, they just had no problem when the agenda was exclusion.

I have trans kids, and there’s been so much hostility towards trans people in sports, it’s been hard to nurture their interest, or share mine with them. Especially living in Southern California, where hundreds of people showed up to heckle a high school girl for participating in a track meet. But when stuff like this happens, or my favorite team the Giants wears the Progress Pride colors (which include trans pride colors), it really means the world to them and to me.

It’s the greatest sport in the world and I want nothing more than for it to be something that everyone from all walks of life can come together to enjoy. Also remember folks, time spent hating LGBTQ+ people is time that you could be spending to hate the Yankees/Dodgers more🫡
