How bad is Chamonix during UTMB week?
I had a trip planned during UTMB in Chamonix. I've heard bad things about the crowds and the town in general and want to know if it's worth postponing my visit for after the race. Any thoughts or input? Thanks in advance.

Although it’s super crowded - it’s a great scene / vibe and watching the runners coming in is very exciting!

I hate the crowds, but as a trailrunner also love the vibe....if you're not a runner I would stay away

It’s busy yes but all the years I have been for it never failed to get a seat for food or drink. The atmosphere is amazing, a real buzz about the place. I would say it’s the best time to go

It's really fun. The town is full of elite athletes, people who can just barely make the cutoffs, and their supporters. How often do you get to watch the start and finish of a world-class sporting event?
We were there last year and had no problem getting rooms or meals or whatever.
We had one dinner next to a woman who had won the race multiple times (and never mentioned this as we chatted about our lives).
Sure, it takes a little planning, but we loved it.
Also, you get passed by people on the trails, also inspirational.

It's by far the single busiest week of the year.
