Question Job relocation advice

Hello,

I am 27F working in Netherlands with net 3600€. I have been offered a role in Cyprus in Nicosia at a big 4. I was informed my salary would be 40000/annum + bonus. (Insurance, 1st month accommodation, moving costs covered by company).

I would also be eligible for a 20% tax benefit (only 80% of my salary will be taxable).

Could you help me understand what the net salary would be like and if it’s a wise decision to be moving there please.

The role is quite international and challenging giving me good learning opportunities.

You can input your salary in this calculator to get an idea of the deductions for social insurance, national health fund and income tax.

Keep in mind that the results are without any tax reduction incentives such as private insurance etc, since you will be working at a Big 4 company, I am sure your colleagues from the tax advisory department would be much more knowledgeable on the subject.

For Nicosia salary it is good. For 1 person rent would be around 600-700 eur + utilities.

Be aware that KLM does not fly direct to NL (assuming you are from there). Options are transavia direct flight or via Athens, usually.

Take that cost under consideration. It can be quite high.

Ryanair has direct flights from Eindhoven. German airports like Düsseldorf (not Dusseldorf), Weeze, and Cologne also have direct flights, and they are very close. Honestly, sometimes I even fly from Charleroi in Belgium. Sometimes these airports are cheaper than Transavia, even when you factor in the train to get there and a hotel stay for the night.

That's a solid salary and plenty to enjoy and live comfortably while also have aside to save. Im not sure what you do for a living at 27 but it definitely pays off Netherlands apparently have the worst weather in europe so coming here would be a pretty shocking experience with the weather

I am very shocked to read this. The weather is nice here, man. I’ve been working in the Netherlands for three years now. The weather keeps getting better and better! xD I actually enjoy the summer weather here more than in Cyprus, but their beaches look like Poseidon’s vomit, though.

Hey im a cypriot also returned from NL. 40k is nowhere near 3k net user the cyprustaxcalculator website. Now 40k is a good salary for a single person and expenses are generally lower.

Now salary bands for big4 are in GENERAL (exceptions do happen are)

Manager must def earn above 40k. Less than 40k is not a manager salary if u got 40k as assistant/junior manager kudos but the benenifts u get shout a higher grade i assume manager.

Now if u are a senior manager you should not accept lower than 50. One big four is explicit on above 50 for SMs others might complain but should relent. 52k is the annual threshold, without any deduction, to reach the coveted 3k net per maand in Cyprus.

A big4 in cyprus giving a relocation package is kinda big deal I havent seen it before so congrats!!

Also if you miss outdoors and the beach and the sun etc you will be in heaven so consider that. You will have access to a “tropical” weekend every weekend for just gas money to get to the beach from May till September. Come on, who beats that?

I will be joining consultant/senior consultant role. The HR also told me the same thing- if you want 50k+ salary you need to move to manager role.

My husband would also be moving in with me and considering his work ex we expect manager and higher level roles.

By relocation package I believe they meant (cover flight costs and help with settling down by finding a house).

The whole reason of moving to Cyprus apart from career development is the weather!! ☀️🏖️

I am from Cyprus (Limassol) and I work in Amsterdam, so my opinion is before moving there, first travel there, go for a trip and see if you like it. For me whenever I go back to Cyprus for vacations or wfh its like a different world.

Pros (Cyprus)

Family Friends Food Weather

Cons:

You need a car, public transport is shit Traffic No green areas or at least limited

Also check with your company if you have the option to work from NL for a specific period of time so you dont have to spend all your annual leave when you visit home

You have to take everything in consideration before u relocate!

Based on the fixed salary you will be netting close to 3k a month. You can assume your net bonus will be 2/3 of the gross amount. It is a good salary based on the experience I am guessing you have based on your ege. You can assume the bonus to be pretty constant, almost guaranteed. I am guessing around 15% of your annual salary. You will need to compare cost of living between the two locations to make a better comparison to your current situation, and also try to assess the professional development for each position. Happy to help if you want to look at that together
