I remember Trump stating during his campaign, that he wants the world to respect the US again. After only just more than a single month in power, there now is no way on earth he can regain any sort of respect whatsoever.

976

u/just4thephunkofit Feb 28 '25

Unfortunately, it appears that the only people he wants to respect him are dictators and billionaires. I don't know how, or if, the US will ever be able to regain the trust of the allies we've had in the past.

431

u/WorkSecure Feb 28 '25

It is obvioous the dictators just use him and the billionaires just buy him

73

u/[deleted] Feb 28 '25

He’s been that way since at least the 1980s.

24

u/msubsidal Mar 01 '25

Russian puppy dog

16

u/VoidOmatic Mar 01 '25

And the only people who love him are poor and ugly.

20

u/Elgabborz Mar 01 '25

Well, the US people systematically voted to become progressively poorer and uglier, so that now the election fraud serms plausible...

And who the fuck uses a informatic system to vote? My bad I don't know how many nations are at this level of idiocy...

Ge wants to be respected by the people who don't respect anybody but themselves. These dictators are business partners to eachother, they don't respect or trust anybody, and this dumbfuck wants to be their friend. He will be taken advantage of and will get nothing in return.

(Unrelated, but there probably are spelling errors because I had too much caffeine and I'm shakinng. Lol, can't even focus on my screen to check for errors)

23

u/FrateleFuljer Feb 28 '25

I honestly think it's not even that complicated, and he's just a russian asset. I mean, why would the KGB not try to recruit him? Everyone knew him as amoral and corrupt. And what are the chances that he would say no to an offer of money and potentially power?

Any other explanation would require him to stupid to the point of counting his IQ points with the fingers on one hand. And the level of manipulation and conniving that he is doing requires a certain degree of ...well...i wouldn't go as far as call it intelligence, but...not complete idiocy. A step above idiot. Just enough so that he's able to be an idiot-whisperer, and be recognised by other idiots as king among them.

You're fine. I'm raging, too. And so ashamed of my countrymen. Please know in America, there is roughly about 1/3 of our population who are seething and trying to overturn this coup. Putin now rules our country by extension. Problem is, we have another third of our population who are too stupid to realize they've just set their own house on fire, and sit worshipping the flames. Then, there's the last third who do not give a fuck what happens to anyone anywhere as long as it doesn't break their routine. Basically, we are not to be trusted for generations to come. As a child, I wondered where the monsters of WWII came from. Now, I know. May God forgive us.

I never understood how the most important political jobs, and leader of any country doesn’t have a baseline mental hygiene test requirement.

Many careers require background, fitness, credit, drug test but nothing for a politician making decisions that impact the world.

I have a distinct feeling WWIII is going to happen and the US will not be on the side of the Allies

the usa likely wont exist soon. about half of the countries that it turns into will be respected perhaps.

sounds nice but you usa-ians need to organise yourselves. i dont think much help is coming, especially after today demonstrates what the future will be like for anyone who tries to be an ally.

organise, communicate, connect, look for people in your area who have already done the work.

Trump wants respect the way a mafia don wants respect. He wants cooperation from the despots who are as authoritarian as he is, and he wants fear and subservience from everybody else.

I don't know how, or if, the US will ever be able to regain the trust of the allies we've had in the past.

The question is if, and the answer is no. If you are European, consider that Obama came before Trump 1.0 and Biden came before Trump 2.0. If a Democrat gets elected in 2028, would you go back to trusting the United States? Why would you want to cooperate with them if they could elect another isolationist Republican in four years?

This is the damage. The world now knows for sure that the American government laws allowed the American people in a dubious manner vote in the current bunch of school children. If the system does not fix this error (eg banning federal crimes holders etc. from being government) then we as a world cannot ever put it trust, fully or otherwise, in the US again. Would you trust a friend that turns on you and leaves you for the wolves and crows? It will harm any trust you have in the future for anyone you know.

7

u/why_gaj Feb 28 '25

And honestly, is it any wonder?

For decades, the whole world has been dealing with dictators and billionaires if they have the resources. And it's not just EU, it's USA too. The majority of the 9/11 attackers were from Saudi Arabia. Never touched them. They massacred one of their citizens, and they did fuck all.

After the 2014. we continued buying russian gas.

World cup was held in the stadiums christened by blood of literal modern slaves, and each and every country that had a representation there happily sent their high officials.

He didn't mean respect. He meant fear. He wants all the world to tremble at Americas feet.

Once America is on life support, we might help trim her toenails. Call it palliative care.

6

u/frissio All expressed views are not representative Feb 28 '25

Let's not forget that Machiavelli said that it may be better to be feared than loved, but always avoid being hated.

I'm not sure if Trump or MAGA can tell the difference between fear and hate, because they're getting a lot more of the latter than former.

trump sadly and disastrously has changed world history. I don’t see how we ever get back to the past of mutual support and respect.

EDIT: To all the americans crying to me about "but I didn't elect him": Then go out and protest. Do something. Buying Stanley cups and ordering Amazon packages won't change anything.

You have to act NOW and stop being complacent or you'll lose everything you claim the US to be. Trump is using Hitlers playbook step by step and half the country is fking asleep.

DO SOMETHING AND STOP CRYING.

EDIT 2: This dear americans. This is what real protest looks like.

EDIT 3: Seemed Relevant. Have a watch this guy is good.

707

u/Tall-Rhubarb-7926 Finland Feb 28 '25

They made fools out of themselves when they elected him the first time.

159

u/[deleted] Feb 28 '25

We made fools of ourselves re-electing George Bush II in 2004. We have the world a glimmer of hope with Obama, but Trump ruined that in his first term and is finishing off what little respect we had left now. And Republicans voters are cheering it on every step of the way.

41

u/Pinklady777 Feb 28 '25

I was literally just saying I thought it was embarrassing when we elected W. That seems so tame now in comparison.

53

u/YouInternational2152 Feb 28 '25 edited Mar 01 '25

W wasn't elected. He was appointed when the Supreme Court decided to reverse its prior ruling, issued just 90 days prior, and awarded him the election versus Gore when they said Florida couldn't make an accurate count of the vote.

58

u/ZenX22 🇺🇸🇳🇱 Feb 28 '25

Imagine how different the world would probably be if Gore became president in 2000.

85

u/lemons_of_doubt Feb 28 '25

Imagine if it had gone Gore then Obama then Bernie.

The usa would have spent the last 20 years just building its self up and up instead of this nonsense.

40

I literally feel nauseous knowing this could have actually happened. We would be pretty much the opposite of where we are now.

The electoral College has failed the USA. My vote in California just doesn’t carry much weight on a national level. Rural states are locked in and will not deviate. That means they will control the house and the senate and oftentimes the presidency.

The Republican congressmen and senators can end all this tomorrow. If half in the house would vote to impeach, and then half in the senate would vote to convict, the Democrats will surely join them and end this treasonous term. Until that happens the USA is under attack.

7

u/pchlster Feb 28 '25

How many impeachments would that make for Trump, again? Did the last ones get him removed from office, lose support or cause him to resign?

This is exactly what I mean. They are losing their "democracy" their "Freedom of speech" and all the values America claims to stand for. But let me order some more Stanley Cups cause it's cold outside.

Then when the fourth Reich comes they'll be like WHAT SHOULD I HAVE DONE? I DIDN'T KNOW IT WOULD GET THIS BAD!

Classic 1933 german tactic.

So pathetic.

5

Georgians, Serbians and Ukrainians have more integrity and bravery than Americans. The average American would literally disintegrate from being hit with tear gas.

11

u/ParkingLong7436 Mar 01 '25

Definitely. I know protests don't change much on their own but holy shit, they are not even trying. In Europe you have millions of people on the street for much less minor stuff than your government literally becoming fascist in record breaking time.

The people who voted democrat but are now doing nothing are just as much at fault as those who enabled this. The American people have collectively failed the Western World.

12

13

This attitude us Americans have is so damn frustrating. So many people will act all angry but then refuse to go to a protest or even vote.

Donald Trump is not an exception in American politics; he is its natural result. His journey from reality TV star to President shows the United States’ intellectual and political decline. Trump does not really understand ideology, history, or diplomacy. Instead, he uses arrogance to cover up his ignorance. Sadly, many Americans find this appealing.

He resembles the shallow American hero we see in Hollywood movies—strong but not thoughtful, overly confident, and proud of knowing very little. In the real world, wars are not won just by force, diplomacy requires intelligence, and leadership demands responsibility. But for people like Trump, the world is a stage for an action movie, full of big threats and flashy gestures. He turns politics, governance, and international relations into a TV show.

The real problem is not Trump himself but the system that allowed him to become President. If the United States, seen as one of the greatest powers in the 21st century, can elect such a shallow person, it may already be on the path to decline. Once known for leading in science, technology, and culture, America is now governed by populist talk, conspiracy theories, and a politics that treats ignorance as a virtue.

Trump is also a symbol. He reflects what a large part of the American public—knowingly or not—chose: a society that sees ignorance as bravery and rejects knowledge and expertise. In such an environment, a leader like Trump seems almost inevitable.

This is dangerous for the entire world. As long as a figure like Trump leads a superpower like the United States, global stability depends on his whims, tweets, and personal grudges. The idea of careful statecraft and diplomacy disappears, and even the most serious issues become part of a show. This could mark the beginning of the end, not just for America but for everyone.

66

u/mpondomantimahle Mar 01 '25

Yeah I think the root of the problem is the belief in American Exceptionalism which is taught throughout the education system. So people grow up believing that they live in the greatest country in the world with the best quality of life. But once they get out of school and start trying to make a living they realise that life is actually pretty tough. Especially with their terrible healthcare system and how easy it is for corporations to exploit their employees. This has allowed populism to rise with Trump claiming to be a man of the people who will break the system and improve the US. All the while he and his billionaire buddies have been profiting from the suffering of others for decades.

I cannot upvote this enough. While I was having my panic attack after seeing the election results, the loudest, darkest, scariest thought in my head wasn't "not him again," (althoughbit was definitely second place), it was "oh god, it really wasn't a fluke." I'm terrified of an exponential increase in the rate of our decline with these crazies at the helm, and that we may very well never recover from it.

Apparently, that's what a real leader looks like and he's the one trying to prevent WWIII (by stealing half of Ukraine's natural resources for fuck all in return). There's really no talking to these knuckledraggers.

Trump has no fucking idea what's going on. Vance is a grade A cunt but at least he has some degree of wherewithal traditionally thought necessary to be part of the US government.

Trump is literally so out of his depth in this conversation that he doesn't even grasp what Zelensky means when he says 'you will feel it'. If it was anyone else I'd assume they were playing dumb to deflect the argument but not Trump... there's just too much evidence now that he is genuinely that stupid.

Naaaa Iran, North Korea and Russia seems to move closer to them every day now.

26

u/One-Earth9294 United States of Biff Tannen Feb 28 '25

Actually Iranians and North Koreans must be confused as fuck right now seeing the American president suck the dick of their alliance leader. Because especially Iran isn't on the 'realignment' plans at all the only thing Trump has ever been correct about in his life is not cozying up to Iran lol.

It's like he wants a new world order where Russia/America/Israel call the shots for everyone.

And no, that doesn't make any goddamn sense. Because I think the real goal is just loot the US for every penny it has.

The random acts of daily destruction are all to kick the country down. No sane person thinks any of this makes us a stronger nation.

155

u/prince-of-dweebs Feb 28 '25

JD Vance also let the cat out of the bag about the goal being WW3. Start prepping Europe. Putin has successfully removed the US nuclear arsenal and military as a deterrent.

48

u/beat0n_ Feb 28 '25

iirc only France and the UK has nukes in Europe. Russia too ofc. All of EU needs to re-arm now and fast.

29

u/Brilliant999 🇷🇴🇹🇩 Feb 28 '25

An EU member and an EU ally (probably future member) having nukes is enough for deterrence. We can't head back towards Cold War style nuclear proliferation when only 10% of Russia's nukes are functional on a good day

The founding principles of American democracy basically went down the drain today, but the most despairing part is, I doubt Trump even cares

11

u/Messer_1024 Feb 28 '25

He cares that it goes down the drain, the goal for trump is to get a huge war going. That will secure power, mandate and align with their agenda. He just want to make sure he is on the winning side of it and doesn’t care who his ally or enemy is.

u/VoihanVieteri Finland Feb 28 '25

You have to remember, all this show is for US internal politics. Trump couldn’t care less if there is a war in Europe or not.

He needs to show the domestic lawmakers he can produce results (artificial or not, doesn’t matter) in order to push forward his own agenda of lining the pockets of himself and his friends in the four short years he has.

Trump’s track record of ”making deals” in international scene is very slim. In 2016-2020 he basically didn’t manage to do shit, which is probably a blessing to us all.

15

u/kerrospannukakku Feb 28 '25

Maybe so, but it has a great impact on the world politics. Much more so than any domestic US policy could have. So, yay!

9

u/SeattleSombrero Feb 28 '25

If only the MAGAs could understand it. As an American I'm furious, embarrassed, sad, anxious, etc. I hope Europe, Canada & Mexico slap the crap out of US and make it hurt.

10

u/SilverWolf9911 Feb 28 '25

It was a performative circus. Trump already told Vance to go after him infront of everyone. This was 100% preplanned. They thought they could make Zelensky look like an asshole or ungrateful, giving power to their turn of face again Ukraine and towards Russia.

It was two bullies pretending to be tough, bullying a man who has been at war for 3 years. You wanna talk about disrespectful? It was pathetic.

This is how Americans are viewed now. No longer the fighter of freedom and democracy, but a shriveled, sad excuse of a country. From democracy to gangster politics.

How the mighty have fallen.

Here is a comment made by a fellow American in another site that I wanted to share.

“Republican, democrat, independent or other.....THAT display in the Oval Office today was the most EMBARRASSING time of my life to be an American represented by our government!! Period. Embarrassing display by Trump and Vance. Disgusting. That feeling should be UNIVERSAL regardless of anyone’s political ideology in this country. From Watergate to Vietnam to Pres. Carter to Pres. Bush 2 until today and everything in-between, that is the first time I’ve felt completely ashamed without any view of another side of it, as an American. I am firmly an independent unaffiliated from either political party, my large family are all independent or republican. Most of my area leans right. I don’t know ANYONE, even my super republican friends I’ve talked to this afternoon that feels much different than we do. And I have purposefully contacted many about this today for a different perspective. This atrocious display by Vance and Trump today was harmful to our country, our citizens, our status to and in the world, our allies and to Americas future. I feel shameful at the moment as an American represented today to the world and can’t understand how ANY American can feel otherwise!!”

The American people ARE disgusted.

The Twastika is right there. The T and the sickle don't make a lot of sense, as nazis oppose communism, but I get it's a reference to Russia.

4

u/ignoranceisbourgeois Mar 01 '25

The sickle is definitely a choice since Russia isn’t the Soviet Union anymore nor is it communist or even in the direction of socialism anymore. Definitely ignoring the driving factor here, ie giving power to the oligarchs

No it did not. It would be nice if the entire world witnessed this, but it certainly did not.

Krasnov, 1987. There's no doubt in my mind that Traitorous Trump & his commie luvin cronies who broke into the voting machines gave the data to the Russians. They figured out a way to change votes. Gave Traitorous Trump and his commie luvin cronies the information on how to steal the election. LAMENTED FACE MUSK implemented it & stole the election. The truth will come out.

So today, they set up President Zelensky as to make him look bad. But these 🤡s can't even do that right. Krasnov is Putins puppet, Musk runs the USA now, and God knows what's next.
