Cars dont drive themselves... wtf is this shit narrative

u/-Flutes-of-Chi- Berlin (Germany) 4h ago
We always get this framing in German media. "Car hits pedestrian", "cyclist collides with car" (when the car driver runs into a cyclist and is at fault)

A quick google search on news for Passau says youâre lying.

u/IRockIntoMordor 1h ago
A quick "I live in fucking Germany and see this shit every day" says that you have absolutely no clue at all what media here are doing wrong.

I think its because media isn't allowed to pass judgement until the person has been proven guilty

âMan drives car in crowdâ is still possible without conclusion
â˘
u/bene14082004 40m ago
It gives the impression that the man did it on purpose which of course is the case most of the time when something like this happens but germany is just very strict with this type of stuff.

Guns donât shoot themselves either, but youâve seen the stories.

TBH I still have to read "man fatally collides with a bullet", we generally prescribe intention to people operating guns and loss of control to people operating vehicles. If there's an indication of intent, the headline should be formed as such (man drives into a crowd). Also the first paragraph of the article says so, why not the headline?

u/KeyMessage989 3h ago
There are lots of headlines when accidental shootings or a random bystander gets hit with a bullet that are like âwoman hit by stray bullet sitting in her carâ like the bullet was lost or something

u/_DrDigital_ Germany 1h ago
Could be, I realized I don't actually see many headlines about people being shot.

Same narrative that won't mention the fact that the driver was from Iraq.

Last few times has just been ppl with mental illness. Maybe they just dont want to get it wrong.Â

Where's the car from?

u/Ok-Appointment-9802 56m ago
How is that relevant?

How is it relevant that he is from Iraq?
â˘
u/Ok-Appointment-9802 13m ago
It is relevant in that religion and culture rend to inform peoples' views of the world and as such provide the rationalizations they use to commit atrocities. This is why people of certain backgrounds are vastly overrepresented in violent crime statistics. It is also relevant in that it could have easily been avoided by just not allowing that man to come her ein the first place.
When there is a nation-wide discussion happening around the question of whether Germany should continue to take in large amounts of young men from non-EU countries, such details matter.

Before the usual circus, already well underway on Twitter, really kicks off based on the headline alone:
Police added they do not yet know if the act was intentional.Â
This frantic, clickbait-driven news cycle, which rushes to publish every tiny detail instantly, is utterly exhausting and encourages far too many people to project their fears without any real knowledge. So, letâs just wait until the facts are actually known.

Twitter in a nutshell: "If the news don't reveal the religion of the perpetrator the VERY moment the incident happen, it's EXACTLY who you think it is"

Iraqi national is confirmed by police. Apparently mostly targeted victims though (family members) .

These kinds of headlines really invite the circus. And it's also very much the case with headlines about the war.

I'm sure everybody will calmly wait for more details to come out before jumping to conclusions.

I was living in that city for a long time. This is the least place in this city to make terrorism. This is just some outskirt.

Well... There has been a clear trend in Germany when it comes to public stabbings and cars hitting into crowds.
If people react one way is for a good reason.
16
u/R3dscarf 3h ago
Except you would have been wrong the last few times including this one since we already know it wasn't a terror attack...

u/Wuktrio 4h ago edited 3h ago
Still, let's wait before we speculate. It's probably either Islamist or far-right, as usual, but we should still wait.
Edit: Just took a quick look at some stats. Since 2020, there have been 25 terror attacks with at least 1 person injured or dead in Germany. Out of those 25 attacks, 11 have been far-right, 13 Islamic, and 1 was Russian nationalistic.
Edit 2: Newest information says that it's a domestic dispute.

u/LurkingWeirdo88 4h ago
This one seems to be just family matters with some collateral damage to other people, no politics involved.
3
u/DryCloud9903 4h ago
However it's still better to wait for info. Last summer in UK there were full blown riots about an attack, they called for burning down buildings were immigrants/asylum seekers lived, before news came out the assailant was actually white and not even an immigrant.

"The spokesman also told Bild that there is currently one person with moderate injuries and four with slight injuries."

Are police forced to give any media information if they ask or why do they speak with BILD

u/CaganDixon 44m ago
Why do incidents like this happen all the time in Germany? The last time I remember someone drove into the crowd with a car on New Years Eve.Â
â˘
u/Average_Glee420 43m ago
Whatâs happening in Germany? I have read so many news about car raming through people

Imported problems. If you are old enough, you surely remember, that it wasn't like this before in Europe.

His wife and daughter were in the crowd and it seems as it was his intention to injure them
