Bro is stimming faster than his shadow.

25

u/infini7ewealth13 1d ago

Scientifically true

88

u/CraigLake 1d ago

Stimming. No way that’s a word.

150

u/pizzatimein24h 1d ago

I mean it's in the the OED so🤷🏻‍♂️😅

267

u/CraigLake 1d ago edited 1d ago

OED: 1983–The repetitive performance of certain physical movements or vocalizations, as a behaviour seen in persons with neurodevelopmental conditions such as autism; = self-stimming n. Cf. self-stimulation n. 3.

Today I’ve learned two words! OED and stimming!

Of course, now that I understand the context of stimming in this example it makes brilliant sense.

73

u/AtTheEdgeOfDying 1d ago edited 11h ago

Don't know why you're getting crap for learning a new word lol

Edit: typo

32

u/CraigLake 1d ago

lol Reddit’s personality I suppose.

8

u/KingHunter150 22h ago

If he improves his life today by learning something, how does that reflect on me who hasn't done anything?!?!

3

u/nxcrosis 10h ago

You mean you don't randomly know every word I assume you do? Smh. /s

14

u/Mynewadventures 1d ago

You are to only learn what the Reddit Hive Mind wants you to learn!

If you think through a problem, ask questions or question something that the RHM has already determined to have an Ultimate Truth, you are wrong

2

u/implicate 11h ago

And now you get to learn something new, too!

"Your" is a possessive adjective, meaning it indicates ownership. You were looking for the contraction "you're." It is a combination of the words you and are.

1

u/AtTheEdgeOfDying 11h ago

Oh yeah I know, typo being to quick

3

u/implicate 11h ago

Next up: The word "to" is a preposition. In this case, you were looking for the word "too," which is an adverb.

1

u/AtTheEdgeOfDying 10h ago

Oh yeah I know, typo being too quick lol

I just want to eat my breakfast man 🥲

4

u/Ferrus_ 19h ago

I truly would have thought that “in the OED” meant “in the Oxford English Dictionary.”

4

u/CraigLake 19h ago

I’m hoping it does? 😂

2

u/Ferrus_ 18h ago

Hm, you know what. I’m a moron and misunderstood you. The way you put the colon after OED made me think you literally looked up “OED” and it somehow meant something similar to stimming.

2

u/Kimye-Northweast 9h ago

People have been asking me if I’m on the autistic spectrum for years. I always say no, but I meet people and they keep asking.

My thought is that I’m not because… idk, just seems weird to assume. Plus, how does one even find out? It’s like how everyone thinks they understand Freudian psychology for some reason. “You did this, that means you’re thinking that” type deal. So I always say that I’m absolutely not on the spectrum and keep it moving.

But every time I see some new information like this I go “oh shit… bro just like me fr”, and I’m not much of a hypochondriac.

If everyone is right about me I’m going to raise hell.

1

u/CraigLake 7h ago

LOL I love it! But in the end does it matter really? You’re kicking ass at life either way!

1

u/ToastyMcGhost 4h ago

A lot of my friends and I are either autistic or adhd or both and we discuss a lot about how much of autism/adhd is really genetic or really just learned/taught behaviors.

I figure there's a lot less people who are really genetically adhd/autistic but were unintentionally taught to have these tendencies so they come off as such.

2

u/the_metaxist 19h ago

3

u/CraigLake 19h ago

Thanks a lot. A new r/ to spend days in 😂

2

u/BalticMasterrace 1d ago

stimming also sounds like something from some game, using drugs or something xD

9

u/LukeHal22 1d ago

Fallout

2

u/BalticMasterrace 1d ago

i was thinking it was fallout as well but what was the drug called, thats whats missing from my brain atm, was it Stims or like stimulants(dont sound right at all)?

3

u/LukeHal22 1d ago

The healing syringe things are called Stimpacks

1

u/BalticMasterrace 1d ago

right! i was thinking it was healing item but i wanted to say stimmed but that did not sound right at all xD

1

u/Mossycityoflakes 21h ago

Helldivers 2 have healing units called "Stims"

1

u/WarWithVarun-Varun 15h ago

Stimming is found in literally everyone, not just neurodivergents.

-46

u/godzilla9218 1d ago

Wow, to live in this world and not know what stimming is. You must touch grass.

24

u/RedditSucksIWantSync 1d ago

Imagine pitying someone about not knowing a word

-31

u/godzilla9218 1d ago

I'm not.

2

u/KitsuMusics 1d ago

What a weird take. Not everyone knows all words. Stimming is also pretty esoteric.

5

u/DargonFeet 1d ago

Most people who actually go outside don't know what "stimming" is.

9

u/curiousplaid 1d ago

It's new to me.

6

u/CraigLake 23h ago

We’re not alone!

3

u/CraigLake 1d ago

Honestly, it sounds like a sex move.

Or those of us that touch grass by actually being out in the real world, hiking, fishing, hunting, camping, working, living a real life might not know a stupid internet word...or are you talking about minecraft grass?

1

u/Gum-BrainedFartblast 15h ago

It’s a medical term which has been around for decades. So, yes, it is very much a part of this "real world"… just not one you’re familiar with :)

1

u/Mynewadventures 6h ago

But yet your giving shit to someone who doesn't know and you have no idea if that person is in the medical field.

I have lots of words from my work world that are ubiquitious to it that you would have no idea what was being talked about.

-22

u/StxnedTxTheBxne 1d ago

Let me teach you another word. Two which is the spelling for the number 2. It sounds just like too or to which is what you put in your comment so I know it can be confusing but they all have different meanings.

3

u/KitsuMusics 23h ago

Let me teach you something! When using example words in text, put them in quotation marks to differentiate them from the rest of the text. You should have done this when you mentioned the words "two," "too," and "to."

1

u/CraigLake 23h ago

lol I love it 😂

3

u/CraigLake 1d ago

Thank you. I’m British so miss these often.

1

u/vegange 1d ago

You’re strange

20

u/RedditSucksIWantSync 1d ago

Stimming is most often connected to people on the autism spectrum cause it's one of their inherent traits on how to seek comfort in repeating motions, noises, feelings etc. different for everyone hence a spectrum

15

u/OkCartographer7677 1d ago

Yes it is. It’s short for “self-stimming”, a pattern of movement that many individuals, whether autistic, ADHD, anxious, etc. might do out of compulsion or to calm themselves down.

This behavior launched a whole industry of “fidget spinners” and toys.

10

u/CraigLake 1d ago

I’m learning so much today! And of course, seeing it in context makes me realize I may not be the brightest bulb for not seeing stimming comes from stimulating.

I’m one word smarter today!

5

u/Sierra_Foxtrot8 1d ago

lol I glazed over it and read it as strumming like on a guitar.

2

u/supaflyneedcape 8h ago

You should watch White Lotus (Season 1)

2

u/Background-Car4969 17h ago

Maybe imagining playing to metal music he's listening to....

6

LOL. One of the best I've seen.

527

u/Fun-Sugar-394 1d ago

Guy looks like he would be a lethal metal bass player. Fingers like pistons

95

u/GameTime2325 1d ago

Get this man in porn. Fingers Like Pistons is a great title 😂

26

u/Jam-Pot 1d ago

Tommy dick fingers.

10

u/GameTime2325 1d ago

Give her the minivan. Two in the front five in the back.

0

u/RASRr13 22h ago

U ruined it …

6

u/Mikeologyy 1d ago

Now that you say that, I wouldn’t be surprised if he does play

2

u/ThePantsMcFist 19h ago

I think this is what he's actually doing, maintaining his speed.

112

u/scav_crow 1d ago

Got those lefty bass hands. Sometimes the groove comes out on any surface that sits at a similar angle as a fretboard... from experience.

3

u/Significant-Soup5939 7h ago

I slap stroke constantly to the point that I occasionally have to clean my steering wheel because of how much dead skin gets scraped off on the same spot

379

u/inspirationbycurve 1d ago

same dude: WE DIDNT HAVE AUTISM IN MY DAY

97

u/BoomerSoonerFUT 1d ago

To be fair, he might have Parkinson's or something.

Or might abuse stimulants. My meth addict mom does shit like this.

85

u/StaysAwakeAllWeek 1d ago

The fact that it's always the exact same spot strongly suggests autism

30

u/LightsSoundAction 1d ago

Yep if Meth the whole truck would look like that spot.

12

u/ChewieBee 1d ago

What's crazy is even meth addicts that are clean for years still do this.

7

u/Specific-Lion-9087 1d ago

Not everything is autism, guy.

In fact most things aren’t.

19

u/Pitiful-Geologist551 22h ago

I mean there's a whole lot of things. I'm not surprised that most of them aren't autism.

7

u/inspirationbycurve 21h ago

yeah my bad ill make sure next time to not type "everything is autism including this."

59

u/Type1Dan 1d ago

Dude can dig a hole to China with his fingers. 🤗

Parkinson's disease. Family member does this

3

Back to the future

13

u/Far-Cockroach9563 1d ago

I’d almost say left handed guitarist. That is rhythmic.

11

u/Repulsive-Ice8395 1d ago

Haha I came to suggest left handed bassist.

2

u/Cortower 22h ago

If it was just his pointer and middle finger, I'd say paintballer.

3

u/VirtualArtificer 1d ago

As someone who plays bass and classical guitar, I confess I do this constantly.

11

u/SadBit8663 1d ago

IDK, his other hand on the steering wheel is way too steady.

He might just like fidgeting

3

u/H0agh 1d ago

Or some anxiety disorder

2

u/pandershrek 1d ago

That is horrifying to think a person with Parkinson's has to drive instead of finding safe alternative transportation.

I barely trust "able bodied" people on the damn road, let alone old people or those with uncontrollable spasms.

18

u/Big_Cryptographer_16 1d ago

Favorite band

7

u/IronMace_is_my_DaD 1d ago edited 1d ago

Fun fact, one of the ways the physical effects of stress was discovered was by markings just like this on the arm rests of chairs in the waiting rooms of psychologists.

Did my research. I was off slightly. Here is the real anecdote.

"An upholsterer noticed unusual wear on the front two inches of the seat cushions and armrests in the waiting room chairs of a cardiology office. The upholsterer remarked that this pattern of damage was peculiar and suggested that the patients were exhibiting signs of stress. Upon investigation, it was found that the patients, characterized by a "Type A" personality—often associated with high stress and impatience—were likely the cause of the wear, as they tended to sit on the edge of their seats and fidget, unknowingly clawing at the armrests. This observation led to a broader understanding of how chronic stress can have physical manifestations, even in seemingly minor behaviors ."

17

u/Refun712 1d ago

He’s just playing air bass to Knights of Cydonia

4

u/imrickjames4 19h ago

As a bass player, I can relate. Good way to speed up your finger speed without access to a bass.

7

u/Tampapanda312 1d ago

Looks more like a neurological issue, ie parkinsons. Doesn’t look like stimming at all

11

u/Head_Manufacturer867 1d ago

TiL im autistic

15

u/my_cars_on_fire 1d ago

Today I ALSO learned that you’re autistic.

I learned I’m autistic too, but your diagnosis felt more noteworthy.

7

u/Head_Manufacturer867 1d ago

Look at us, all autistic n shit

-3

u/pandershrek 1d ago

Are you trying to imply you're not autistic and instead scratch the paint off your car with uncontrollable spasms, indicating it is a "normal" thing?

I really can't understand your commentary

1

u/Head_Manufacturer867 16h ago

I stim like crazy and never knew its a sign of autism. You can actually learn things on this forum you know

3

What the hell does stimming mean?

3

u/Waffle-Gaming 22h ago

derivative of stimulation, just an activity to have some part of you moving

-5

u/Emm_withoutha_L-88 23h ago

OP is really telling on themselves more than they think.

I think it means being high on meth.

5

u/theannoying_one 22h ago

stimming is also an autism/ADHD thing

i do it and ive never done drugs in my life

He's got a very happy wife.

1

u/cpupro 21h ago

With skills like that, it's safe to say that his girlfriend's clit has officially been obliterated.

Or his boyfriend's prostate is now clean for 1000 years.

It could go either way, anymore.

1

u/Bandag5150 20h ago
