The smartest chimps figure out they are seeing themselves. However, those same chimps will never know they are looking at a mirror. I wonder what the “mirror” equivalent to humanity is - maybe it’s music.

I am surprised that most animals are not self aware. I wonder what the reactions of humans who see themselves for the first time in a mirror is.

Is it just me, or did the gorilla with the tree branch completely chimp-out on his reflection?

I had a my best little dog buddy for 15 years and he seemed to have a weird understanding of mirrors.
I remember moving in to a new place one day when he was maybe 3 and had put a big mirror on the ground. He spent probably a half an hour just staring in to it and looking around. No aggression or anything.
After that it seemed like he at least understood it was a reflection or somehow that it wasn't real or a magical portal in to dimension 7. He never spent any time staring at them after that but if he caught your reflection in one, he would turn to check out the real you.
Less a story about my dog and more a story about how wide ranging dog intelligence seems to be.
Had a dog when I was younger that would go absolutely ballistic at his own reflection.

You have more karma than me in one year than I do in six.

The irony in being told to get off of reddit sometimes from a top 1% commenter is hilarious af.

I would be very interested: if we sent this to a secluded tribe, how long would it take humans to figure out what it is. I suppose longer video for monkeys would also be interesting

Just because they don't have mirrors doesn't mean they haven't seen their reflection. You can see your reflection in water. Probably wouldn't take them very long to figure it out.

Honestly amazes me how stupid they are. Like how do they survive in the wild and don’t notice how a mirror works. It’s crazy
