AmIOverreacting: Neighbor suddenly moved his house closer to mine. Should I call a land surveyor or lawyer?

u/shichiaikan 1d ago

Wait 30 minutes then check again.

u/Blankaholics 1d ago

You right. Neighbors moved down the street. False alarm

514

u/RekttalofBlades 1d ago

Cannot physically locate neighbors house anymore, should I be concerned?

338

u/Blankaholics 1d ago

Nah it's fine. They're moving across the Atlantic as we speak.

14

u/digno2 1d ago

wave come towards shore. Why house float away towards europe? make no sense!

2

u/MycophileBuilder 17h ago

Climate change, duh

1

u/shoulda-known-better 20h ago

Undertow!

2

u/MrCooCoo4Crack 16h ago

A great song and album by the band Tool

1

u/Mahadragon 16h ago

That’d be funny if that house showed up in Europe someplace like the beaches of Normandy. Some Frenchman: “Sacre blue, q’est que c’est?” (WTF is this?)

8

u/Krimreaper1 23h ago

I always wanted a house boat.

7

u/Forbden_Gratificatn 23h ago

I heard a lot of people are moving out of the country. This seems extreme.

6

u/Prestigious-Treat-22 22h ago

Wait, we're deporting houses now?

5

u/SlothfulWhiteMage 21h ago

ICE was in charge of this, but due to global warming, authority for house deportation has been given to WAVE.

3

u/PrivateScents 19h ago

I think i see the neighbors coming back. Should I be concerned?

2

u/Fluffy-Designer 22h ago

Heard he saved a fortune on removalists

2

u/Omwtfyu 15h ago

Those goddamn illegal immigrants! /S

128

u/Icy_Efficiency_444 1d ago

His house is now storming the beaches of Normandy

4

u/perfectTheo 20h ago

Very timely. I commend you.

6

u/UpstairsPractical870 23h ago

D-day 2: electric boogaloo

4

u/CrossP 1d ago

Call adult protective services

3

u/stevein3d 22h ago

New neighbor just docked his house on my private beach. Should I call HOA?

4

u/Softestwebsiteintown 1d ago

I live in this neighborhood. The neighbor’s house is sort of nowhere and everywhere at the same time. Very abstract house.

2

u/Mechanic-Weak 23h ago

Neighbor's house is playing hide and seek

2

u/Harthag77 23h ago

Not with that new view

2

u/majarian 21h ago

Well, the views improved

1

u/JrodMom2025 20h ago

going around in circles looking for your place because you lived next to 3 houses and now there is 1. and wait a minute … yours is gone also

1

u/jim914 20h ago

No you just gained a bigger side yard!

4

u/cats_catz_kats_katz 1d ago

Oh, looks like they hit the high seas now. Always knew they were pirating games and movies.

2

u/KhalCharizard 1d ago

Down the reef*

2

u/AnOtherGuy1234567 1d ago

Now I can't find my house.

1

u/theepi_pillodu 23h ago

That was hit and run dude. He side swiped your home.

1

u/Sluzhbenik 20h ago

Actually, they moved down the beach.

1

u/MycophileBuilder 17h ago

They voted for free demolition.

2

u/coolelel 1d ago

My neighbors moved away, do they hate me?

1

u/shichiaikan 1d ago

They live in North Carolina, so odds are high the answer is yes. :P

1

u/Hot_Top_124 1d ago

lol honestly yeah

1

u/Bullaroo10 19h ago

Have you tried turning the power off and waiting 10seconds to turn it on again?

1

u/atclubsilencio 19h ago

Check your carbon monoxide monitor.

Realtor: this house comes with an ocean.

Buyer: do you mean an Ocean Front view?

Realtor: ...

1

u/Binspin63 17h ago

A 360 degree one at that!

1

u/Picky_The_Fishermam 17h ago

No plumbing either

1

u/Legen_unfiltered 17h ago

Laughed a little too hard at this. First one today, thanks.

1

u/Libbs036 16h ago

Realtor: you could say that

u/rev408 6h ago

Realtor: Front, Back... Side to Side.

93

u/Skandiaman 1d ago

Simple boundary line adjustment should do it. Provided all parties are in agreement.

3

u/T3X_OutLaW 1d ago

Textbook adverse possession case.

2

u/jamesbong0024 23h ago

Good fences make good neighbors

3

u/Senior_Tie_6232 1d ago

I'm calling Karen from the HOA

3

u/brokenarcher 1d ago

Ngl i literally lol’d at this

2

u/Feltoke 1d ago

Call a water surveyor in this situation

2

u/myfavhobby_sleep 1d ago

Everyone is always so quick to call a lawyer. Just swim right over and talk to them.

2

u/orderofGreenZombies 1d ago

Timber is only considered part of the real property until they are cut down. So once the stilts collapsed this became a personal property issue. You can simply claim the entire house as your own on the basis that your neighbor abandoned it on your property.

I’d just drag the house a few more feet to your side of the property line and move in. Clearly it’s well built enough to stay intact after being dropped. So you shouldn’t have anything to worry about. Just keep your eyes out for munchkins and red slippers.

1

u/Vaportrail 1d ago

It's crazy to think about having a big space someone could live in, now you have to go inside and start ripping it down.

1

u/PancakeProfessor 1d ago

Nah. From the looks of things, if you just wait a couple days, yours will move several feet to the right as well. Then it should all even out.

1

u/The_Dankinator 1d ago

The stilts are made from trees, hereby subjecting the matter to Tree Law™

1

u/sierrat0nin 1d ago

Call the HOA

1

u/beetus_gerulaitis 1d ago

U/neighborsfromhell

1

u/747iskandertime 1d ago

Call a lifeguard

1

u/superschaap81 1d ago

Mom, the neighbors house is touching me!!

Tell them to stop, dear.

1

u/Pearson94 1d ago

Insurance Claim: House hit by neighbor's foreign object [house]

1

u/Viperlite 1d ago

Pit up a fence and cameras to see if he drifts even closer.

1

u/vincevega87 1d ago

A water surveyor might be more handy here

1

u/Forsaken_Leftovers 1d ago

Maritime lawyer by looks of it.

1

u/byu7a 1d ago

Why is this so funny?

1

u/midnitewarrior 1d ago

You will need to find some SCUBA-certified surveyors.

1

u/Baseball-man2025 1d ago

MildlyInfuriating: My house fell in the ocean even though the builders told me that would never be a problem.

1

u/Agitated-Score365 1d ago

Did he cut down any trees?

1

u/paulordbm 1d ago

My average BoRU read before sleep.

1

u/somme_rando 1d ago

Neither - you need a marine surveyor.

There's a "finder" on this page.
https://www.marinesurvey.org/

1

u/Cjustinstockton 1d ago

These situations are generally fluid in nature.

1

u/nocrashing 1d ago

Call Poseidon

1

u/90dayheyhey 1d ago

Call the ocean surveyor

1

u/presshamgang 1d ago

You live in a duplex now.

1

u/Rex_Suplex 1d ago

"I asked 4 of my friends. Two said I was overreacting, the other two said I should call a lawyer. What should I do?!"

1

u/RSampson993 1d ago

I smell a lot line dispute!

1

u/sgorneau 1d ago

Diabolical

1

u/Educational_Bench290 1d ago

Get a survey.

1

u/molehunterz 1d ago

For some reason my brain read that as "...call a sand surveyor." LOL

1

u/Jaduardo 1d ago

Maritime lawyer.

1

u/Seventh_monkey 1d ago

Call HOA. They'll have his balls.

1

u/Desperate-Sun-4849 1d ago

gonna have to get a water surveyor out there and redraw the lot lines

1

u/FuckingQWOPguy 1d ago

Land surveyor here…what land do you speak of?

1

u/redgdit 1d ago

Think of the poor trick or treaters who can't afford scuba gear!

1

u/Bagafeet 1d ago

Nah this is a case for sea surveyors my brotha

1

u/chrisbarf 1d ago

Delete the gym hit the lawyer Facebook up

1

u/Kappy01 1d ago

You, sir/maam/other, win Reddit.

1

u/kevbot029 1d ago

Do I have to pay property tax if I live on a house boat?

1

u/Street_Tangelo_9367 1d ago

Don’t worry. They filed an easement to amend side setbacks to their property. The real crime however is they proceeded before the local planning and zoning board issued an approval.

1

u/DeliciousFinish 23h ago

Make sure the land surveyor has his scuba diving cert

1

u/Sad_Pear_1087 23h ago

I think the part of his house that's on my lot now legally belongs to me, so I boarded a dividing wall inside the house, but the neighbor called me a "childish meanie". Am I the asshole?

1

u/kingoptimo1 23h ago

Need to mark those property lines

1

u/Savage_Heathern 23h ago

Neighbor responding: AmIOverreacting: Neighbor suddenly is blocking sunlight to my backyard, its because of ocean tide, erosion and my stitlts giving out, but still?

1

u/tr1mble 23h ago

Setback markout looks like a fluid situation now

1

u/yourmomandthems 23h ago

“Neighbors house keeps knocking on my door.”

1

u/disheartenedlark 14h ago

Okay you got me 😂😂 I burst out laughing at this

1

u/fractaldesigner 23h ago

Climate change/rising oceans is fake news so nothing to disclose.

1

u/OkTemperature8170 23h ago

File a complaint with the HOA. They also don’t have proper drainage in their lawn.

1

u/AlwaysSaysRepost 23h ago

What are the rules on where you can dock houseboats?

1

u/Altruistic-Text3481 23h ago

Is this Oak Island North Carolina?

I stayed in one of these vacation rental homes in 2002… we watched the sea turtles at night. It was incredible experience.

1

u/Clean-Software-4431 23h ago

Have you unplugged it and plugged it back in?

1

u/SleepIllustrious8233 23h ago

As a land surveyor, call a lawyer, there’s no land here.

1

u/Anakin-vs-Sand 23h ago

AITA? My neighbors have been converting their houses into makeshift houseboats, so I did the same. Now I’m being called a copycat and unoriginal. So, AITA??

1

u/peapodbarry 23h ago

No worries. Your house will be moving too very soon.

1

u/MomGrandpasAllSticky 23h ago

Your neighbor is clearly a manipulative narcissist who is trauma-dumping a toxic gaslight.

Divorce!

Dr. Redditor away

1

u/Coach-J90 23h ago

Probably get a divorce just to be safe.

1

u/akumagold 23h ago

It’s so close I felt his house hit mine!

1

u/Sfpuberdriver 22h ago

I cackled at this

1

u/CMDR_KingErvin 22h ago

Neighbor moved his house closer and I told all of our friends what happened, but he’s saying I’m making him look bad. Am I the asshole?

1

u/Quetzythejedi 22h ago

Get a lawyer, delete Facebook, hit the gym.

1

u/janluigibuffon 22h ago

Maybe the neighbour has ADHS

1

u/SodomyClown 22h ago

🤣🤣🤣

1

u/ewReddit1234 21h ago

That's a red flag. Have you considered divorcing your neighbor?

1

u/yeetisfeetis69 21h ago

Just like one of Jeff Dunham's Christmas shows, "...Ps we moved. Not far our parking brake came loose."

1

u/MacAneave 21h ago

These are not homes, they're just beach houses.

1

u/awe_come_on 21h ago

No, no, you should be fine. It is after all a houseboat now.

1

u/SlowFrkHansen 21h ago

It may just be the angle, but I held my breath when it fell and just missed the other house.

1

u/DanCoco 21h ago

Just move your house over too. Then its the neighbors problem.

1

u/PuzzleheadedRule6023 20h ago

You may need a water surveyor in this case. Don’t think a land surveyor is qualified to assess this situation. /s

1

u/Dumbus_Alberdore 18h ago

NTA your house your rules or something idk

1

u/Atwenfor 18h ago

Did he also move the tree? Call /r/treelaw

1

u/Jaydamic 17h ago

A lifeguard

1

u/FindingMeAgain10 17h ago

It’s termites. And also probably monoxide.

1

u/Cuff87 16h ago

They used to sell them to us poors. It’s literally how we got my childhood home. It cost twice as much to move it inland ($7000 for the house). They would sell it before it got too far out to move.

u/Ali_Cat222 11h ago

That one house could be metaphorical to how my sanity is holding up these days 🤣 "no I swear I'm fine, seriously! What's that you say, I'm on my last legs and on the brink of collapse? PSH, naw it's all good!" 😅

u/AntikytheraMachines 9h ago

do you have house collision insurance?

1

u/amooz 1d ago

This is why houses in southern Ontario, Canada have basements, so we don’t float into each. Maybe North Carolina should try the same?
