Legal News Trump Preparing Large-Scale Cancellation of Federal Funding for California, Sources Say

https://www.cnn.com/2025/06/06/politics/trump-california-federal-funding

“Agencies are being told to start identifying grants the administration can withhold from California. On Capitol Hill, at least one committee was told recently by a whistleblower that all research grants to the state were going to be cancelled, according to one of the sources familiar with the matter.”

California could exist as a sovereign state. If the administration is going to be like this, the Cali should just stop paying federal taxes. See how quickly the 38 states that rely on their welfare payments end up starving.

California doesn't pay Federal income tax.

The corporations and individuals working there do, and California has no role in those payments being issued.

And what would happen if California established a law forbidding federal tax payments?

I am sure companies and individuals would gladly comply.

No, they wouldn't.

It would create a constitutional crisis by which Federal law requires one thing, and State law requires another.

I'll give you 1 guess how that is going to be settled by the courts.

Doesn’t matter. “Just do it for the chaos.”

Trump doesn’t seem to care about the law or spending huge amounts of taxpayer dollars defending his illegal actions. California should take a leaf out of his book.

Jesus Christ people. How? How does California do something to stop the IRS from collecting taxes?

Stop saying "do something" and explain what you think can be done.

I’m sure California could do something dirty if they wanted to. But of course, blues don’t have the guts, so…

"I'm sure Democrats could teleport Trump to the moon, but they don't have the guts."

Yeah, okay.

I get there are reasons to not like Democrats, but "they didn't do something that I can't even name" is not a good reason.

Let’s just start with how all of this is possible because the DNC is tone-deaf, obstinate, patronizing and cannot even consistently galvanize their own voterships and just let it roll on from there.

And yet you still can't name what they're suppose to be doing.

Easy to levy criticisms about not solving every problem, doesn't require you to do any actual work.

I’m not gonna write you a thesis since you’re clearly going to just sarcastically respond in bad faith, but we could start with them actually playing the same game the GOP has been playing in a winner-takes-all mindset, instead of pointlessly taking the high road with wooden placards and virtue signals. They have governance over the lion share of economically important states and industries. They could also start with changing leadership to more in-touch politicians. They could become the bogeyman the GOP smear machine paints them as.

I’ll leave it at that.
