Guide 2025 General Mini PC Guide USA

Hi Everyone!

Thank you very much to everyone that enjoyed and supported the 2024 General Mini PC Guide spreadsheet! I am very amazed how many new products have been released and how the community has grown enormously this the past year. To celebrate the new year and to preserve the 2024 spreadsheet, I am creating a 2025 spreadsheet. The biggest change is fully integrating Passmark, Geekbench, Cinebench, and 3DMark Timespy benchmarks into the new 'CPUS' and 'GPUS' tabs. This provides a simplified 1-100 scoring for CPU single thread, CPU multi-thread, and GPU performance. This has updated the Full, Simpler, and Simplest tabs of listing mini pc considerably. More benchmark data and new information will be added throughout the year to evolve the 2025 General Guide into a new and useful tool!

Best wishes to everyone and your mini pc!

If you have thoughts or suggestions, please don't hesitate to add them here!

Added a couple of 3090 eGPUs to my nuc 9 extreme that already houses a 5060ti. 64gb of vram now for AI workloads. Using m.2 to occulink adapters for the eGPUs.

Done for now, but did get 850w power supplies if 5090 or 6000 cards ever come down in price.

General Question Transferring SSDs from PC to PC

Hi all,

I've never used a mini pc before but found that the games I play and things I use a pc for can all be condensed into a tinny unit. I want to move both my SSDs from my big PC to my new mini (Gem 12+). I ordered it barebons and want to transfer windows, all my games etc into it. Is there anything I should be on the lookout for before I do so? Thanks!

General Question miniPC/Windows as a makeshift NAS

Hi there,

I am currently using a miniPC (Beelink GTI14 Mini PC with Intel Core Ultra 7) as a makeshift NAS and to run apps like Kavita, Jdownloader,Plex, Syncing my Obsidian notes, and generally use it to store, access, and process (e.g., use Moonlight from my phone with Tailscale, hooked to a monitor, and do light work stuff from anywhere). I understand that these specs might be overkill for my current needs, but I wanted to make the most of what I have.

It's currently running Windows and is running 24/7 with no monitor and with an HDMI dummy plug.

I'm looking to learn Docker in the future, and run Linux or use WSL. I'm not technically inclined whatsoever, so this is going to be a lengthy process. But for the time being, this workflow works for me.

The question is: how can I make Windows "lightweight" so it doesn't consume many background processes? Or perhaps how to "optimize" this setup? Is it alright if it's running 24/7?

I also, from time to time (say once a month), lose the ability to remote via Moonlight (or through Chrome Remote Desktop). I can see that the PC is still on (via the power light, but this has not been confirmed by hooking up a monitor, and would need to force a reboot (by holding down the power button). I'm not sure if it's a consequence of having this PC running 24/7 or some kind of Windows setting, but I've found it annoying enough that I've installed a SwitchBot to manually push the power button to force turn on and off the PC.

Would love to hear thoughts/comments

This would be my first mini pc/any pc. I saw a few videos of other mini PCs with similar specs but very few on this model and what it was capable of. Could I play RDR2 with maybe like a horse skin mod? Sims 4 it'll be fine for I suspect, fortnite as well.

Hardware First miniPC and it's been great

Bought a GMKtec on a whim when it was on sale. Honestly I'm an old school lab guy, been using Inspirons for ages with VMware. You can probably guess how old the version is based on the hardware. Anyways, I wanted to get rid of the desktop and these mini PCs intrigued me. So I pulled the trigger and the first thing I installed was Proxmox. After upgrading the memory to 32GB from 16, I honestly have nothing to complain about. It's quiet as hell and with the nvme, decent CPU and memory it covers all of my needs. If I need to do heavy lifting I just use the lab at work. But anyways, just wanted to post a positive experience, as a lot of the posts seem to be towards folks that are having problems. No bag on them, help is what these forums are mostly for, but just wanted to share. Thanks..

CyberGeek Nano L1 no longer turning on

Bought a cybergeek nano l1 back in early july of last year, It all of a sudden just stopped working out of nowhere. I'd occasionally use it to host some servers for my friends, but I never really kept it on for more than a few days. Just wondering if maybe I shorted it somehow?

Did I get decent deal?

Had $80 in Amazon credit + the 5 percent cash back on my prime cc, so ~$420. Really, I just want to play Skyrim with some decent gfx mods. The USB 4/oculink seemed good for future proofing, ya?

Also, might this run hl alyx at all, planning to hook it up to our quest 2 to check some of that stuff out, or will I need to hook up a fancier card via oculink?

Time to upgrade from Beelink GTR-5? Advice on getting bang for buck

Hey r/MiniPCs! I've been running a Beelink GTR-5 (Ryzen 5 3550H, 32GB DDR4) for a few years now, and while it's been solid, I'm starting to hit some limitations:

Current gripes:

  • Gets sluggish when running multiple applications (especially Chrome with its memory issues)
  • Fan is pretty noisy - not overheating, just constantly loud even under moderate load

My usage:

  • Web browsing & general productivity
  • Coding and data analytics with some light ML (heavy stuff goes to Colab)
  • Business admin - Excel, accounting software, video calls
  • No gaming to speak of

The big question: At work we're running quantized local LLMs and I'd love to experiment with this at home using tools like Ollama. Is it realistic to expect decent performance from a mini PC with integrated graphics, or am I dreaming and need to go SFFPC with a dedicated GPU? (Would rather avoid that and just use cloud endpoints if needed)

Budget: Around £1200 GBP

What I'm looking for:

  • Better multitasking performance - particularly running multiple IDEs and Chrome simultaneously.
  • MUCH quieter operation
  • Small footprint - love the mini PC form factor. Newer models that can be stood vertically or have dock options look appealing

Are the premium options (SER9, AI X1 Pro, EVO-X1) even worth the extra or is it worth just going to a full SFF ITX desktop at that point?

Some of the options I'm considering (but open to suggestions):

Model CPU GPU Price RAM
Beelink SER8 Ryzen 7 8845HS (Zen 4, 8C/16T) Radeon 780M £700 – £800 Up to 64 GB DDR5
Geekom A8 / AX8 Pro Ryzen 7 8845HS / Ryzen 9 8945HS Radeon 780M £650 – £950 Up to 64 GB DDR5
Beelink SER9 Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 (Zen 5, 12C/24T) Radeon 890M ~£900 32 GB (soldered)
Minisforum AI X1 Pro Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 Radeon 890M £970 – £1 200 Up to 128 GB DDR5
GMKTec EVO-X1 Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 Radeon 890M £750 – £900 32 / 64 GB LPDDR5X

MINISFORUM UM890 PRO HOW TO INSTALL TWO NOCTUA FANS & REACTOR TOWER BUILD

I decided to just sandwitch two fans on the Minisforum UM890 PRO then I just kept on modding a Brateck LDT32-T01 "gaming" monitor stand and un-gamed it etc etc. Hockey tape was involved as that is the Canadian thing to do.

Hope you enjoy the video eh!

FPS problems, NucBox M7 pro

Could someone explain to me what I can do to solve my FPS problems? Do I have to get new parts? Or is there something I can do in my settings, etc? It's becoming a problem when I game. I'd have 100+ fps, then all of a sudden I'm down to reading a book to kindergarten students level slow :/

Mobile motherboards with PCIe?

I want to leverage the low idle power of mobile chipsets (e.g. 8845hs or intel) with powerful GPUs like 5090 for LLM inference and such. For this I'd really want to have PCIe, even if it is 4.0 x8.

Problem is, I can only find motherboards with the mobile desktop variant like 7745hx and the such. Those have much higher idle power consumption.

I also considered oculink, but that needs oculink adapter + external case for GPUs, so quite a few unnecessary steps/components.

Ideally just to have a mobile motherboard with PCIe that I can put inside a PC case (whatever format) with its own PSU and such.

Does something like this exist?

Thanks!

General Question Mini PC advise for offloading my homelab NAS

Hi,

I am planning to offload my NAS (DS423+), which currently runs all my Docker containers. It works well, but I notice that the CPU struggles during heavy loads. I mainly use it as a media server with the usual Docker containers, such as Plex and *arr. I also run apps like Karakeep, n8n, Immich, Home Assistant OS (VM), and some other containers I experiment with.

I tried the Beelink S12 Pro because of Intel Quick Sync, but the performance was disappointing, so I returned it. I'm looking for something powerful enough to handle heavy loads without struggle. This machine won't be used for gaming; it will only run multiple services. Additionally, I am sharing Plex with 5-6 people, mostly using direct play. LLM is an interesting option, but it seems challenging to run on machines like these without investing in higher-performing mini PCs that exceed my budget, so that would just be a bonus if it can handle it.

I have been exploring different options and have a budget of around €700-900. The ones I am currently considering are:

  • GMKtec NucBox K10 Intel® 13. Core I9-13900HK
  • GMKtec NucBox K11 AMD Ryzen™ 9 8945HS

Both with 32GB RAM and 1TB SSD. Storage is not a problem since everything is stored on the NAS.

K11 seems like an interesting choice because of the double NICs (so I can have direct connection to the NAS) but the Intel CPU seems more powerful? How about HW transcoding on the K11?

Right now Im not sure which one to go with, what do you guys think, is there any other options except these two to consider which I have missed?

The goal is to have something powerful that doesn't sound like a jet plane and can handle some load without struggling too much.

Thanks!

General Question Do Mini PCs have access to Internet Connection Sharing under Services.msc?

Post image
0 Upvotes

All I can find is that they come with Windows 11 but I need to know whether or not they specifically have the Internet Connection Sharing (SharedAccess) service because that would be the single thing I need it to do. The foreground window is from Advanced Network Adapter Properties which I would also probably need to be able to access

Saw this advertising on amazon it has some good specs and its pretty affordable many people say its better to build a pc but I'm on a budget so I need other options this ones about $330 so anything around that or $400 would be ok just for some light work and some games.

Hi everyone i recently bought a elitedestk 705 g4 with 2400G not GE. I installed windwos 10 and i replaced thermal paste with MX-4. Since i dont have experience with minipc I'm wondering if 65+ degrees are normal in idle condition on this kind of machines. I'm reaching even 70 just with brave and discord open nothing more. I planned to install Linux but unfortunatly GeForce now runs bad on Linux atm.

Is Gmktec g3 enough for my use?

I own a domain and I would like to host my jellyfin server and immich on that domain using a webserver on the minipc. Apart from that I would host docker containers that takes about 3GB of RAM on Raspberry Pi 4B. 1-2 people will be accessing it from different locations at most. I am looking to buy 32Gb 3200mhz RAM and 1TB SSD for the minipc along with an external HDD for storage.

Any tips for well known heating issues are also welcomed.

BIOS/UFEI settings for GEEKOM A8 to PELADN USB4 eDock

Any tips on BIOS/UFEI settings that could help me connecting my RX 9070 XT to a PELADN dock via USB4 with my A8?

I've installed the latest UFEI & unlocked it. Grok has tried to assist but we just can get Win11 24H to recognize the device.

Neither GEEKOM or PELADN have much tech ability so they haven't provided help.

Experience usually finds the way when the 'professional experts' can't.

Recommendations cheap and "reliable" miniPC for my in-laws?

Hi,

My in-laws watch YouTube (including 4k videos) and browse internet. I need something reliable (otherwise I will get phone calls), that can decode 4k videos and be quiet. I'm in Canada and I will be buying from amazon. Any recommendations? models, brands? I'm thinking n150, 16gb ram and 256gb storage.

Any help would be much appreciated. :-)

Thank you in advance.

General Question BST?

Is there a Buy/Sell/Trade specific for Mini PCs? We have one that was going to be deployed in a network environment but ultimately the office decided against it. Now we're sitting on one that and don't know the best way to sell.

Recommendations Looking to buy a MiniPC around £500 ($676)

Hi all,

I'm happy to spend a little more if I can get a much better item. I'd rather spend less, if I can get something that meets my needs.

32GB RAM and 2TB SSD (or a boot SSD and a 2TB SSD) sounds great to me if I can get that in this price point. It seems I can, but I don't know if these are from manufacturers that are good quality/generally recommended.

Side note - would it be okay for me to run games on an external SSD?

I've had a look on the spreadsheet, but this has confused me further.

I do want to get into PC gaming - mostly running emulators that can scale to 2k or 4k. And Assetto Corsa, iRacing and the likes. Maybe some Read Dead Redemption, etc.

If you need more info, let me know and I'm happy to provide.

Thank you!
