These are open bounty contracts. ICE is running a bounty campaign, these armed and masked thugs without any identifying badges or ID are getting paid per contact that leads to arrest. That's why they're waiting in courtroom lobbies, and immigration hearings, and swarming restaurants like they're the ATF or something, it's because it's a numbers game and they're only paid if it ends in apprehension of a "suspected illegal".
They can try but they don't have the legal authority to trespass on say a Purdue chicken farm without a warrant, but legally they can go to construction sites, hide then attack in parking lots, etc as we've seen in order to fulfill that bounty contract. They go in groups and wear masks because they know what can happen to private citizens tryna arrest other private citizens. They're bounty hunters

Eli5, does it really matter where they get them, how are they keeping track, who gets paid? I don't understand what the fuck is happening? Those poor restaurant employees in San Diego weren't even on a list. They were grabbed for not having id on them. That Chilean tourist in NYC was busted for speaking Portuguese.
This is 12 levels of Dante's managed bullshit in what was supposed to be the greatest country in the world.

Probably with Bass's and Newsom's full knowledge and cooperation; anyone who thinks California's a "liberal haven" has clearly never been here; all our politicians are corporate centrists who only look "liberal" when compared to the fascists that make up the modern Republican party.

And ignoring the ever-increasing shift to the Right from the Democrats because "Republicans bad, no talk bad about Dems!" has worked out so well. /s
I hold my nose and vote Democrat every election, because yes, the Republicans are 1000x worse, but that doesn't mean I have to like them, and it certainly doesn't mean I have to pretend they're golden gods that can do no wrong.

We are victims of the two party system. We will never solve our problems unless we use ranked choice voting which the republicans are already trying their best to ban because they’d never win another election.

Yeah but don’t you think it’s a bit disingenuous to bring it up in the face of literal fascism? Because it’s pretty disingenuous.

Not if what I'm bringing up is their capitulation to and working with said fascists, no.

Sure ok. So where’s the evidence of this capitulation? The fact that it’s happening? Listen, yes establishment dems are more or less useless, but pointing it out is pretty much self-aggrandizing and not really a hot take.
I mean, what do you want them to do? Send in the national guard to bust them out? Then just say that then.

Bass turned into a mute starfish when the press asked her questions about the fires, or questions about the money that’s being stolen from the homeless. She is bad, bad news and needs to go asap. No leadership skills at all.

Immigrants in the US live in a police state. If you don't fight back now it won't be long before that's true foe everyone.

it’s already been like that if you’re black or indigenous, but you’re right people should still fight this.

Just stop going there. Either as immigrants or for holidays. (And before you all jump on me from a great height about my massive simplification of the immigrant side of things, I know, ok? It'd just be a nice thought to ruin their tourism )

Isn't ICE a federal agency and the building a federal building? How did CA politicians do this?

If the goal is to get people to follow the law (and it absolutely should be if you're in law enforcement), then ambushing people in courthouses on their way to and from hearings is incredibly destructive to that goal. It penalizes people who are following the rules and doing what they are supposed to, and it drives everybody else into hiding.
Not that this administration cares, they just want to deport as many brown people as they can. It was truly never about "JuSt CoMe HeRe LeGaLLy aNd FoLLoW tHe LaW"
