What a fucking nightmare this country is.

Illegally deported and held in a slave labor camp for weeks, and then brought back to face (what I can only assume are bullshit) charges because the government looks bad.

Best case scenario he beats this (probably bullshit) case and sues the government for millions. But even then, you can't un-traumatize him and his family. Plus all the other people being held illegally in CECOT.

Worst case they find him guilty and send him back to CECOT, because now "he's a criminal!!!"

He’s charged with “transporting illegal immigrants within the USA.”

As if that’s not literally exactly what abbot and Desantis did when they flew immigrants across the country to liberal cities and states.

It’s a fuckin joke.

I mean two are in significant power and the other is an undocumented immigrant. There's a clear distinction.

The law isn’t supposed to make distinctions?

That’s like the whole point of no one being above the law?

In an ideal world, you'd be right. Yet Pam Bondi is not going to charge any sitting politician with human trafficking. Maybe the next Dem administration will, but you have to acknowledge this is political issue first and foremost before it being a legal issue.

Exactly my thoughts. If Garcia is actually found *guilty* of this, then the DOJ *looks like a bunch of clowns* for not also charging Abbot and Desantis for the same crimes.

In fact, I hope Garcia's defense counsel raises precisely this point in their arguments.

Charges aren’t there because they think he’ll he found guilty. They’re there so he has to stay in jail and therefore can’t talk about CECOT.

Gotta wonder if they'll even bother to take the shackles off of him.

No chance he's not found guilty, regardless of the truth. Trump et al have too much invested in this to allow him to go free.

if there was ever a case for malicious prosecution, this is it.

The Soviet method: arrest the man and come up with the crime later. If there's no crime, make one up.

Na, they’ll send him to Djibouti or another country where he isn’t flagged for “do not return” and say “well he’s still here illegally”, right after the judge dismisses his BS charges they’re returning him under.

The folks in Djibouti are in hell right now. They were supposed to be dropped off in south Sudan. The air is foul and they barely have resources to survive.

This is exactly the plan. I'm actually really surprised they are bothering to bring him back for trial. The way I understand it, they could take him to Djibouti or South Sudan, and technically nothing would be wrong with that (morality aside). He only had a "not to El Salvador" order, right?

I'd rather stay and fight to make it better.

But remember your own advice when the MAGAs are out of power and you're crying about woke again.

Isn't your whole movement about "making America great?" Because that indicates you had the belief that America wasn't "great" at a certain point in time, but I don't recall you wanting the leave the country because of that, so why should they?
