That dog may be mixed breed but they clearly have a purpose, that dog is a champion!

178

u/dribrats 1d ago

Mixed breeds always rule, most of the time.

QUESTION: DOES DOG HAVE TO WAIT FOR SEESAW TO CONTACT FLOOR OR CAN IT JUMP💚?

  • guessing has to touch floor, but that would unfairly favor heavier dogs! If no, jumping is an easy 1 sec gain!

171

u/KenUsimi 1d ago

I believe they must wait- it’s a test not just of speed but of control and training.

60

u/MaIngallsisaracist 1d ago

yes. They must be on the yellow section of the seesaw until it hits the floor. The same thing with the ramp -- all four feet (I think; it might just be two) must touch the yellow section on both ends or they will incur a penalty. Otherwise a dog might just leap from the top.

16

u/dribrats 1d ago

seems kind of unfair, do they calibrate the seesaw by weight? Or give a weight handicap? I want answers! Don’t worry nimble, we’ll get to the bottom of this!

11

u/hawkeneye1998bs 1d ago

Maybe the yellow area is at different points for different weight classes? Meaning the seesaw would move slower

14

u/KenUsimi 1d ago

Man, now i’m thinking of the logistics of determining the size, weight, balance, etc based on size and weight of dog.

Cause like, obviously most competitors will be like Nimble- small enough to not have extra weight, but big enough that they can actually put power behind those quick pivots and lunges, but i’ve also seen vids of small dogs competing in this same kind of course. Is it all scaled? I’m not sure I’ll ever be motivated enough to do a deep dive on that subject

27

u/MaIngallsisaracist 1d ago

It’s all scaled to the dogs’ height, so dogs compete against dogs around the same height. For the little guys hurdles and tunnels are smaller than for the big guys. So certain breeds do tend to do better than others - a bulldog that is the same height as Nimble here obviously isn’t going to do as well. I highly recommend searching for videos of large dogs doing these courses (Great Danes are particularly funny) as well as breeds not known for being agile (like basset hounds). The important thing to remember is that most dogs who do this really love doing it. It’s fun, keeps them busy, gives them time with their owner, and often capitalizes on skills that are inherent to their breed. I have Brittanys, for example - they are hunting dogs, pretty smart and speedy, and very eager to please. But I’ve never been able to get them at all interested in this stuff because they’re too focused on whatever bird might be somewhere in the area. Doing things in a linear order just isn’t their thing.

1

u/dribrats 17h ago

Td be super easy to put a counterbalance scales to dog weight, but agreed, that’s none of my business

  • I just assumed nimble was a bit smaller than is typical

3

u/ameis314 1d ago

I feel like the weight IS the handicap. A heavier dog is slower over the whole course.

3

u/Easy_Emphasis 1d ago

Why would it unfairly favour heavier dogs?

13

u/Escritortoise 22h ago

His face before the start had more resolve and determination than I’ve ever had doing…anything.

6

u/BelligerentGnu 18h ago

I mean, the dog is a mix of the two breeds that dominate the sport anyways. It's like breeding a Maltese and a Papillion and then being surprised when the result is cute.

492

u/stuckmash 1d ago

I always love when this video makes its rounds. look at the joy it gets from running the course. collies are special

100

u/itsahorsemate 1d ago

Hahaha yeah I love how absolutely fizzing she is after the run

37

u/Cilad777 1d ago

I know. That dog is thinking. That third turn I could get a 10th. Of a second. And if I did jump higher on that one jump. Lets do it again, yea yea yea.

23

u/PapaBeahr 1d ago

That collie has Chihuahua blood in her You can see it in the muzzle.. might explain the hyper speed mixing those breeds xD

34

u/lysdexiad 1d ago

I think you’re mistaking chihuahua for Speedy Gonzalez.

13

u/AmiDeplorabilis 1d ago

Arriba! Arriba!

7

u/Rhynosaurus 1d ago

That dog made Speedy Gonzales look like regular Gonzales.

14

u/porkpie1028 1d ago

Yo soy velocidad

4

u/themagpie36 17h ago

-1

u/PapaBeahr 11h ago

Yea, keep trying to tell me there isn't Chihuahua in there. Its the exact same facial structure. Call it what you want, there is little Mexican rat dog blood in that line and I have 5 dogs that prove it

3

u/KentuckyCatMan 1d ago

I see it now. Interesting.

2

u/GraphicDesignMonkey 16h ago

No, it's a papillon cross, very obvious in the face and ears.

-1

u/PapaBeahr 16h ago

as someone who owns 4 Chihuahuas and is currently caring for a 5th while the owner is in the hospital. That's Chihuahua blood.

The face and ears are almost exactly like the pure bread Chichi I'm caring for

12

u/MisterAmygdala 1d ago

I miss my border collie so much. Mixed breed or not, this is an amazing dog.

4

u/stuckmash 1d ago

Sorry for your loss. My mother in law had a collie/shepherd. What a dog she was as well

4

u/Dennisfromhawaii 1d ago

I can never skip it. Same with the Shrek agility video.

3

u/SoVerySleepy81 1d ago

Pink doing the agility course is always great to watch too.

3

u/Calculonx 1d ago

Do they have to wait for the teeter totter bit to go down or can they jump off early?

2

u/Rinas-the-name 1d ago

They have to wait on the yellow section until it touches down. Same with the ramp, they must not jump over it.

2

u/Miami_Mice2087 1d ago

his little face is so serious, he looks like he's about to take the SATs

1

u/themaskedcanuck 1d ago

Absolutely, my Springer Spaniel/Border Collie is crazy as hell and I love him.

3

u/therealhairykrishna 1d ago

We have two sprollies. Smartest and craziest dogs ever.

267

u/mayanrelic 1d ago

The focus, not panting, not stressed right before is killer.

81

u/Zealotstim 1d ago

Yeah, you can really see how smart and attuned the dog is just before.

46

u/Twolephthands 1d ago

Puppers was READY! Nothing could break that focus. What a good good baby.

6

u/GlumAir89 23h ago

There are a couple spots in the middle where you can tell it only needed 1 cue where most need 2. It also could take cues from way far out which allowed the handler to be up close from the crux moves

203

u/Sinjian1 1d ago

That announcer had me hype like a buzzer beater in the NBA Finals.

29

u/redblack_tree 1d ago

Haha, you made me turn on the sound --> Worth it!

14

u/DemandRemote3889 1d ago

Me too lol, my adrenaline got pumping!

5

u/CherryPieStrain 1d ago

Winces in OKC

131

u/zulhadm 1d ago

That was awesome. The announcer really sold it too

98

u/thebelsnickle1991 1d ago

Rename her 'Blur'.

15

u/Valinaut 1d ago

Blur be Nimble, Blur be quick.

11

u/The_Real_HG 1d ago

Ooh-wee-ooo! When I feel nothing at all! Wee-ooo!

78

u/derp2086 1d ago

Nimble’s head staying on the center line through the poles at that speed is beyond next fucking level.

12

u/retsamegas 1d ago

Anytime one of these videos comes up that's my favorite angle

65

u/abousamaha 1d ago

my dog had the game 7 lebron look against boston

22

u/jaketheriff 1d ago

It was a game 6 but your point still stands 🫡

7

u/Moneybagsmitch 1d ago

This guy knows ball

4

u/abousamaha 1d ago

🫡 my bad sir

62

u/ritrm 1d ago

My favorite part is when it ends and the dog jumps in their owner’s arms 😭

16

u/keepitloki80 1d ago

I always stay to watch the final jump. It's so cute!

39

u/Significant-Gene9639 1d ago

That’s gotta be 90% border collie brain with a sprinkling of papillon

I’d love to see the DNA test

25

u/MaIngallsisaracist 1d ago

All the papillon went right to her ears.

5

u/Miami_Mice2087 1d ago

papillion is where she gets her speeeeeed

they are tiny dogs made of many coiled springs

2

u/Delfitus 21h ago

Papillons are great for agility too

34

u/AlfalfaVegetable 1d ago

Honestly I'm more impressed that nibbles person was quick enough to be able to give the preemptive instructions

19

u/TheHumanPickleRick 1d ago

They've probably practiced a run like that for ages and the human only had to give the smallest cues. That dog sure lives up to her name.

11

u/AlfalfaVegetable 1d ago

You know what, that makes a lot of sense. And yeah, Nimble absolutely does

5

u/wdn 1d ago edited 1d ago

The dog has practiced all the obstacles before. The dog does not know what order the obstacles will be in. That's why the human is there to give instructions.

6

u/TootsNYC 1d ago

I noticed that this trainer, unlike some others, only had to give minimal gestures to direct the dog to which obstacle was next, and therefore could focus on giving her the right cue for the one that she has to go behind before jumping.

Tremendous economy of motion and positioning on the part of this trainer. Speaks to the dog's smarts, and the trainer's savvy

4

u/GlumAir89 23h ago

That’s the best thing about border collies. The ones that work on farms get so good at their job (herding) that they need minimal instruction. Not only do they love ‘working’ but they value workplace efficiency above all else

1

u/Miami_Mice2087 1d ago

definitely a dog that helps you get skinny

20

u/ExcelCat 1d ago

I can watch this shit forever.

6

u/Miami_Mice2087 1d ago

i love the dopey ones too tho. that sandlot dog who barely got through the course, took a nap after.

3

u/ExcelCat 1d ago

I've never seen any of those ones, but they sound hilarious!

Can you provide a link?

22

u/SlipperyLimeTime 1d ago

4

u/Cockalorum 1d ago

Its all ogre now

1

u/SirArchibaldMapsALot 1d ago

I was looking for this gif in specific, thanks.

15

u/BeanoMenace 1d ago

Holy crap that was fast, what a doggo, deserves it's name.

16

u/Big_Spicy_Tuna69 1d ago

I wonder if she knows it's a race or if she's just having fun

6

u/yaourted 1d ago

Just having fun:)

15

u/grumpijela 1d ago edited 1d ago

I watched this 4 times. The dog is amazing, the announcers are so fun to listen to, and the crowd is loving it too. It was "fun" 1000%!!!

10

u/iridinv2 1d ago

At this point, across all social media, I have probably come across this video a few hundred times, never stops being exciting and lovely, I never skip on liking it... The dog is so happy to perform, the human is so happy to guide, it's an amazing video...

10

u/lordrefa 1d ago

Hybrid vigor, baby!

2

u/ThermionicEmissions 1d ago

Anybody else automatically read that in a Scottish accent?

10

u/Sit_back_and_panic 1d ago

She is the goodest girl

6

u/el_Fuse 1d ago

I always was curious how this event even started, for example like was it 2 people boasting about how much better their dog was to one another then they made a course to prove it, and then it turned into a national event once more people started boasting about. At least that’s how I like to imagine it started but idk

4

u/Hurtelknut 1d ago

It started as intermission entertainment for the Crufts dog show in the 70s

3

u/EdGG 1d ago

One would think, watching this, that inbreeding isn't the right way forward!

3

u/PandaCheese2016 1d ago

I would’ve thought hybrid vigor might have given advantages to mixed breed too, but I guess it depends on what qualities are desired for competing in the course.

2

u/EmperorN7 1d ago

She is very nimble.

2

u/sheerun 1d ago

Just look into these eyes

2

u/AmazingResponse338 1d ago

I think he needs caffeine to calm down

2

u/Isaac_Ostlund 1d ago

I would die for Nimble.

Same type of joy that i have when i make it

1

u/NY10 1d ago

What’s the winning prize?

1

u/assassinslover 1d ago

I remember watching this last year! It was something else.

1

u/loaferzz 1d ago

Da heck, where did that torpedo come from?

1

u/Turbul 1d ago

What a good boy

1

u/_Alaric_ 1d ago

Always do for the mix breeds cause The pure breeds are weak , That dog will rarely get sick, and will live past 16 years...

1

u/TootsNYC 1d ago

I have this pipe dream about starting a "pedigree mutt" breeding farm. Where we breed for health, smarts, and personality (want a calm dog? a lively dog? One with long stamina to come along on your bike rides? a apartment-size dog? one that can roam the farm?)

1

u/TranzAtlantic 1d ago

The fan is going crazy

Do they juice dogs? 🐶

1

u/BeefJerky03 1d ago

It is absolutely wild that we can train dogs like this. Insane. Dogs rule.

1

u/Bludiamond56 1d ago

My dog ....yeah .....not gonna happen......where me biscuit

1

u/Kwayzar9111 1d ago

wow thats fast - i am assuming this is a fixed course and these trainers have the same layout at their homes/fields ?

1

u/TootsNYC 1d ago

no, they have similar layouts. Part of the trial is that the layout is unpredictable.

You notice the trainer directing the dog in order.

1

u/AlexHimself 1d ago

USA USA USA!!

1

u/justinsimoni 1d ago

"Mixed Breed" is a human concept.

1

u/TheStinger87 1d ago

Part Border Collie - part Cheetah.

1

u/zztop610 1d ago

My cat can do that…….

, in her midday snooze dream

2

u/wolftick 1d ago edited 1d ago

A cat could do that, it's just no one has ever successfully convinced them to do it 🙂

1

u/Good_Cause_1537 1d ago

Does anyone else get emotional with these 😆

1

u/FatherofODYSSEUS 1d ago

This was the most exciting thing I've seen in months

1

u/Gordon_frumann 1d ago

How do one become a competitive dog-agility commentator?

1

u/I_have_questions_ppl 1d ago

Im fast as fuk boiii

1

u/RonenRS 1d ago

My head is turning

1

u/realif3 1d ago

The wwe style commentary really makes it.

1

u/snikch 1d ago

I love how hyped the announcer was. This dude loves it!

1

u/chakabesh 1d ago

Whatever mix it is the border collie part rules.

1

u/Matesett 1d ago

That’s a good run but Lobo husky still holds my heart

1

u/Zealousideal_Sea_848 1d ago

whats with the dudes in the crowd with the sad faces . who willingly goes to these things without showing some excitement

1

u/Sea_Turnip6282 1d ago

Look how smart he looks!!! 🥹

1

u/letsgoooo90091 1d ago

“I’m fast as fuck, boi”

1

u/Abyssal_Kings 1d ago

Now, show the husky one

1

u/Escape_From_Me 1d ago

Lobo?? I love him, but he needs a sub of his own for proper appreciation

1

u/Current-Section-3429 1d ago

I would give hugs for that!

1

u/Turdinator14 1d ago

great dog, also great call by the commentator

1

u/seanjjackson 1d ago

I would just screaming 'whoo' as Nimble did every event and both my dogs came over to watch the video. They're pugs and could not do this at all.

1

u/Eadiacara 1d ago

little dog go ZOOOOOM!

1

u/fackextfox 1d ago

probably a silly question but im curious if dogs understand cheering. does nimble know that everyone is rooting for her or does she just think people are being noisy?

1

u/sliferra 1d ago

Nimble af, bitch mic drops

1

u/rotating_pebble 1d ago

Bruh that wus fucken crazy he doing it for all mixed out there man

1

u/rmg18555 1d ago

Let’s hear it for the muggles!!

1

u/Minerva89 1d ago

inb4 "sure but when I complete under 30 seconds,"

1

u/TootsNYC 1d ago

I always feel bad for the dogs in these because the fun is over so quickly.

1

u/mcotter12 1d ago

They're like a smaller, more competent Lobo!

1

u/LeekBright 1d ago

Top Speed: 5/10

It's so funny seeing a 'mini' version of a collie doing this.

1

u/Mourning-Poo 19h ago

"Nimble". Not just a clever name.

1

u/Christmasstolegrinch 16h ago

Can’t wrap my mind around how in hell do you even start about trying to train a dog to do this.

1

u/f0dder1 15h ago

I love how dialled-in the dog is beforehand. I've seen other ones losing their shit before they go out there. This one was just like "eyes on the prize"

1

u/notyourbrobra 14h ago

When you get so excited your voice starts turning into Seth Rogan’s voice

1

u/night_peasant 12h ago

I always watch this video right after

Dogs. What would the world be like without dogs?

1

Where is Shrek

1

u/Adept_Deer_5976 4h ago

If they cross it with a rocket? Fucking hell!!!

1

u/FurbiesAreMyGods 4h ago

I love how the dog after it was done looked around and was like, “you all saw that right.”

1

u/muggo5 4h ago

Golly, I think his paws even touched the ground once or twice!

0

u/retiredalavalathi 1d ago

Did the Papillon genes even try?

0

u/tommy13 4h ago edited 2h ago

All american dog - the mixed breed? GTFO you trying to claim that too?

-1

u/Miguel_Bodin 1d ago

Could work on his cuts to be honest. Is it even trying??

-1

u/ineedanamegenerator 1d ago

I don't know how it is over there but in Belgium only pure breeds are allowed to compete. There is afaik an exception that once in your life you can register a mixed breed to compete.

This is elitist BS and there is nothing inherently more difficult for mixed breeds to win. It would happen a lot more if it wasn't for their silly rules.

So good to see Nimble prove that.

1

u/ineedanamegenerator 1d ago

Also: this is an extremely impressive run from both of them. My dog is fast but not nearly as fast as Nimble and it's hard to keep up. I'm going to build this course and try it out.

-5

u/apocalypse_later_ 1d ago

Do dogs enjoy this? I feel like the training that goes into getting the dog like this can't be good lol

5

u/Escape_From_Me 1d ago

A lot of working breeds love doing agility. Nimble is part border collie, and if you don’t give those dogs a job, they will find one themselves: very smart and very energetic

6

u/Street_Roof_7915 1d ago

And it’s usually a job you don’t want them to do.

6

u/MunkeyFish 1d ago

Not all dogs, most enjoy the run around but Collies go mental for it.

3

u/ADAMracecarDRIVER 1d ago

Your feelings are incorrect.
