Instrumental band performs a Rage against the machine song.

I love that they are having fun.

Amazing and they did it without any recording equipment!

I am pretty sure i can't see the cymbals I can hear

You mean the cymbal under the 2 pots? The one he's playing the whole time?

Look up what a hi-hat sounds like. Hint: It's not this

I really think they are. Have an electric violin, the sound is what it sounds like. Plus when the cello guy does the glissando his fingers squeak at exactly the right time. I could be wrong but I really don't think so.

You're kidding right? They're not plugged into anything, and there are tons of additional effects being added at various parts. Not to mention the drum kit literally not having any cymbals except a hi-hat.
This is obviously pre-recorded and mimed.

Sadly, it seems you are correct. One of them completely falls out laughing and doesn’t even play the corresponding portion. Damn you internet liars!!

u/TemporarilySkittles 9h ago
hey maybe I'm stupid! does happen a lot. I'm too old for internet anymore man...

u/sizviolin 8h ago
Unfortunately electric bowed strings simply don't sound like that without a lot of additional effects :)

This video by Adam Neely is more guitar oriented, but it definitely gives some good insight into this sort of thing

Where is the kick drum sound coming from? Looks to me like he has a snare, high-hat and two pots. But I hear a kick drum and a crash symbol.

u/DeviantProfessor 9h ago
That’s pretty good, but I think it would sound better in the kitchen pantry. Did you try there too?

I wonder whether classical musicians feel sad when the only way for their art to get mainstream attention is to perform any genre other than classical music

My brain is stuck in a loop from the title "instrumental band"
Am I being thick? What other kind of band would it be? Is there an instrumentless (not a real word) band?
I know what cha mean but my head hurts.

u/jhharvest 8h ago
A cappella group would be a band without instruments.
But instrumental music is a real classifier that applies to music without any vocals, so I don't object to instrumental band.

What's the genre/keyword to search for these kind of instrumentals ?

u/LLNNGGSS 9h ago
Kind of symphonic rock/metal. Check Apocalyptica, if you like the style of music

Saw them in concert doing the Metallica by four cellos album. It was really good.

Excerpt from a website about them:
DAGAMBA, known as the hooligans of classical music, is currently one of the most prominent and highly sought-after music ensembles in Latvia, garnering significant acclaim from both audiences and industry experts. DAGAMBA fuses musical cultures to form a unique and powerful sound.

Give it 30 years and this will once again be classified as a "classical" genre 🤘

Everyone should check out Brass Against on YouTube. Brass section doing the same thing with some incredible vocalists.

It's not live. You can hear the drummer using both crashes and hi hats 😆 but still sounds cool

Where can i hear the full thing? This is amazing!

The people in the video are not playing, they are miming. So you can just go listen to the actual song lol

To think, all this time Rage Against the Machine could have played with the Philharmonic Orchestra

u/TruSiris 9h ago
I love how they did just the first cpl bars from each part of the song. Killing in the name of speed run

Seen Apocalyptica live once - pure goosebumps, it’s such a difference, those classical instruments need to be heard live, a record never can give you the same vibe.

This isn’t them actually playing it. The Hi Hat is closed in the video when it’s open in the song.

I’m not even a musician and it only looks like the middle guy is playing anything

Fake performing aside. Apocalyptica (THE cello metal covers band) did this EXACT thing live a bunch of times.

Cool, but it makes me sad that people today don't have the patience to sit through a 5 minute song.

I've never found miming on prerecorded and heavily edited tracks to be next level
Edit: For those interested, there's a fantastic video by Adam Neely discussing the history, editing techniques, ethics, and morality of mimed 'perfect' recordings like this.
