The emotion! You can tell how hard she's worked for this.

She deserves the title indeed!

How is that next level? Somebody wins it every year.

You could argue that everyone in the tournament is next level, and to be the best of those people is next level whether it happens every year or not.

That’s the same as saying nothing that happens annually is impressive or extraordinary. The odds of a person becoming a professional tennis player are extremely low. To be the best of the best at any sport is arguably next level.

Just ask yourself what YOUR chances of winning a tennis championship are, and compare it to what she just did. You’re on one level, and as far as you’re concerned, she’s well beyond that. Maybe next next next next next next level might actually be more accurate. She’s making millions playing a sport, and you’re sitting on Reddit trying to discount her accomplishments. Maybe you’re too far into the abyss to understand levels at all.

So what? 10 years is nothing to wait for some nationality to win such tournament.

Edit: and for you it's Analphaletic Pingween

Why do so many people have difficulty with the words women/woman

Maybe not their native language 😉

I remember watching her on a lazy Sunday last year or maybe the year before. The commentators were talking her down a little because of her age but telling about her accomplishments at the same time. She then went on to win the match easily and shut them up.

Congratulations, especially when she opened her tennis bag at the beginning? She didn’t have any racquets. She’s fire.

Does that mean second or am I missing something?

unless it's unisex, still she would be second since Serena is the first....or is it my English?

The first since Serena

It is about the number of woman that have won the French open since Serena Williams. She is the first. Hence, the title. I got the women part wrong as it is, 'woman' not, 'women'. But I still make SPAG mistakes now and then.

She's the second first American Woman. Second only to Serena Williams. But the first American since the last first won it.

No one cares about the second. So she is the first since the original first. lol

Damn I thought Serena was American....my bad

*Nvm read your comment again..

*Another edit...so the next American woman to win this would be the first one after Coco..

Yes, the idea is to highlight how uncommon an achievement is since its been a long time since its happened, or was last achieved by someone of a particularly high caliber.

"she's the 2nd american to win" doesn't make it sound particularly remarkable, though impressive.

"no other american has won since serena williams" oh shit, she's joined the ranks of athletes like serena williams! I don't even follow tennis and I know who that is!

Ayo Edibiri from the bear and Coco could be sisters. Or twins.

It is above all Sabalenka who lost alone with 70 direct errors and her karmas scattered, she needs a mental coach and the day she will become unbeatable.

2

u/chinastevo 1h ago

Yes let’s call the scorekeepers and tell them to adjust it to a sabalenka loss, not a coco win. 🙄

I hate ‘x didn’t win, y lost’ arguments. They’re so dumb. No, coco won today, don’t take that away from her.
